Chapter 7

"Is this how you ask for help?" Raymond snapped, shutting down the computer and getting up to leave. "I don't want a divorce anymore. Just get out."

Margaret grabbed his wrist, her voice softening. "Raymond, I really have no choice."

She didn't cry, just bit her lip and pleaded. "I'm willing to divorce. I won't cling to you anymore. Please help my dad."

This was the first time Margaret had shown such weakness in front of him.

But he still shook off her hand. "But I want him dead more than anyone."

Her calm voice started to tremble. "Raymond, you misunderstand him; he's your father-in-law after all. Or, tell me what will it take for you to help?"

He didn't look back, holding a light-colored coat in the crook of his arm.

Hearing the sound, Raymond turned around.

Margaret, the proud noble lady, Marlon's cherished daughter, knelt before him.

His eyes showed shock. Even when he was with Sarah and coldly forced her to divorce, she never knelt.

Could this mean that Marlon's place in her heart was more important than Raymond?

His first reaction was to help her up, but remembering that she was his enemy's daughter, he retracted his step and gave a cold smile. "Margaret, you're really willing to give up your dignity for Marlon."

Margaret replied, "In the face of life, dignity is worthless."

Margaret truly believed this. She used to think that self-respect was the most important thing of being human, but when Marlon had an accident and she couldn't come up with the money and had to ask for help, she realized how naive she had been.

Raymond's face darkened as he paced to the floor-to-ceiling window.

Outside, snow had started to fall at some point.

He remembered that Marlon loved snow the most.

Raymond uttered coldly, "If you want to kneel, kneel in front of The Hughes Group building!"

He turned around and saw her stunned.

Margaret thought she had misheard. She thought kneeling here was enough.

She didn't expect that Raymond could be so ruthless.

"Seems like Marlon isn't that important to you after all." Raymond shook his head and sneered, turning to leave.

Margaret asked, "If I kneel, will you save him?"

Raymond said, "Kneel or just piss off!"

Raymond had completely lost his patience, irritably tugging at his tie as he turned to leave.

Margaret made up her mind. "As you wish, I'll kneel."

Raymond's back stiffened suddenly. The always proud Margaret was actually willing to kneel for Marlon? He was shocked, surprised, and filled with a sense of vengeful satisfaction.

Marlon had destroyed his entire family, so he would make Marlon's precious daughter Margaret kneel in the snow to atone for their sins.

In front of The Hughes Group building, there was a vast expanse of white snow.

Margaret knelt in the snow, the cold wind blowing incessantly, snowflakes falling on her curly hair. Wearing only a thin coat, she looked pitiful and frail.

Her back was straight. Her eyes were stubborn and resolute.

A large umbrella appeared over her head.

No longer feeling the snowflakes, she was a bit surprised.

She really didn't know, with the Hughes family reducing to this point, who would hold an umbrella for her? Who would protect her? She thought for a long time but couldn't think of anyone who would show up.

She once had a good friend, but their relationship had soured due to Sarah's meddling.

Could it be Raymond? Was he just speaking out of anger earlier, but in reality, he couldn't bear to see her suffer even a little?

Thinking of this, Margaret looked up with a hint of joy in her eyes.
