Chapter 5 Useless People

Stella was all in, playing the perfect daughter for Henry and Angela. Even though she got the short end of the stick most times, she was all about that big-hearted, kind, and beautiful vibe, always ready to forgive and forget.

She turned to Adeline and said, "Adeline, I'm sorry on Mom's behalf. If you don't want the cash, no need to stick around with the Martinez crew. You can handle yourself, and I don't want Mom's pushiness to mess with your pride."

Her words hit the right note, and everyone was nodding in approval.

People glanced between Stella and Adeline, thinking they were like night and day. Stella was like this generous, kind little angel.

Adeline, though? She came off as kinda bitter and moody.

Sara's crew just shook their heads.

Adeline's lips curled up a bit, her eyes clear like she saw right through the whole act.

Even with all the praise, Stella felt a bit off. 'Is Adeline holding a grudge and plotting revenge because she got booted from the Martinez Family?'

Three months ago, Adeline was all shy. Now, she was like a wild card, sharp-tongued and fearless.

Stella couldn't wrap her head around it, but the Martinez Family had her back for over a decade. What more did Adeline want? Did she really think she was some rich heiress?

No way.

Feeling a mix of guilt and disdain, Stella kept her cool, still talking sweetly.

"Stella's got a point," Sara chimed in with a smile. "In psych class, we learned about the mental gaps in teens, especially those from small towns who care too much about what others think and can't tell the difference between good and bad intentions."

She turned to Adeline. "Since you're in the big city now, you should drop the grudges and pay more attention to your surroundings."

Adeline listened, amused, and then threw out a random question, "Are you the famous Ms. Cooper who claims to cure everything?"

Sara didn't like her tone. "Yeah, that's me. Why?"

"Just a heads-up, as a doc, it's not just about skills. Good ethics matter too. Be careful who you take on as students. If they're just in it for the money, that's a big problem." Adeline finished, giving Stella a knowing look.

Sara sneered, "I get it, you didn't get a great education, so it's easy to get jealous of someone like Stella. But everyone here sees Stella's good behavior, and they see yours too. The difference is obvious. I trust my own eyes."

Henry and Angela jumped in, glad Sara still liked Stella. They looked at Adeline like she was a bad joke, wishing she wasn't their daughter.

Adeline was just an embarrassment to the Martinez Family!

Adeline shrugged off Sara's digs. She was just giving a professional heads-up since Sara was a doc too. She didn't mind Stella being of the same occupation, but Stella's reasons for getting into medicine were all wrong.

Meeting Sara today made her realize the Cooper family was all about the hype, recruiting students left and right, claiming to be medical big shots. They treated medical aid like a fame game, churning out a bunch of nobodies.

Without her, the Cooper family bragged about her achievements. It was time to shake things up.

The Martinez Family's show was all for Sara. Angela chased after her, fuming that Adeline had even ticked off Sara. She thought,  'Adeline didn't get that without the Martinez Family, she'd be nothing. Now that she had ticked off the big shots in Eldoria, she'd regret it big time!'
