Chapter 8 The Witch Doctor Saves Lives

Adeline wasn't about to get into a shouting match; the kid was clearly suffering from heatstroke, especially with the sun blazing at noon. If she didn't act fast, things could get real bad.

She quickly jabbed the first needle in.

The kid winced, his brow scrunching up a bit, like he was starting to come around.

James just stood there, eyes wide, like he'd seen a ghost. "No way. This can't be happening."

For a second, James doubted himself, but then he shook it off. Nah, no chance.

If this witch doctor could fix things with a single needle, then what the heck had he been studying all these years? Total nonsense! Witch doctors were just con artists with their mumbo jumbo.

The crowd gasped, "He's waking up!"

The kid's eyes popped open, looking weirdly calm and clear. Everyone was floored, like they couldn't believe what they were seeing.

But there was no denying it—the kid was definitely awake.

Among the gasps, a woman's voice cut through. "How'd you do that?"

Adeline grinned, her voice soft but sure. "It's not just basic acupuncture."

As she talked, she kept pressing the needle until the kid's fingertips went pale, letting out enough blood. Then she gently dabbed a sterilized cotton ball to stop the bleeding.

James, still not buying it, sneered. "This could just be a fluke. He hasn't even said anything yet; maybe your random poking did this."

He kept mocking, "You lower rungs always fall for these witch doctor tricks. You'll regret it when you're left with nothing."

Adeline's face darkened, ready to snap back, but the kid's clear, strong voice cut in, "A healer should aim for excellence and not badmouth others."

The kid's words shut James up. He'd just said the kid couldn't talk, and now he was eating his words.

James's face twisted in anger, while the woman couldn't stop laughing. "See, you should hit the books more."

James shot back, "I don't have time to argue with you clueless folks." His words dripped with disdain and arrogance.

Suddenly, the needle in Adeline's hand flashed like lightning, grazing James's cheek and sticking into a nearby tree. James felt a burning on his cheek, his body going stiff, almost knocking him off his feet.

Adeline's smile had a hint of mockery. "Did you forget something?"

James, trying to keep his cool, asked, "What?"

"An apology, and it better be sincere." Adeline's voice was calm but firm.

James tried to save face. "Misdiagnoses happen all the time. If you don't get it, don't talk nonsense."

The woman couldn't hold back, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Is this the level of Sara's students? Do you even know what medical ethics are?"

James was fuming, shouting, "What's wrong with my medical ethics? Who can prove what I just said? You'll never be worthy of Sara's treatment. I'm here helping you for free, and you dare question me?"
