Chapter 3 - Pleaded Guilty-3
But Anna was accused of allegedly sexually bribing the plaintiff.
In court, where the lawsuit was in full swing, she vehemently denied revealing the offer amount to Joseff Robert.
She'd always known Joseff was Ace's nemesis.
The two brothers had been fighting for years.
How could she give Joseff company secrets when she loved Ace so much?
But the man she'd loved for ten years had submitted everything he could to incriminate her.
"The entire project was handled by Anna, who had email correspondence with bidders from competing firms," Ace said.
Hearing this, Anna laughed bitterly, "Ace, you set me up? You had me send emails that turned out to be from another company's bidder?"
Anna cocked her head and took a deep breath.
What could be more heartbreaking than being sent to prison by the man you love?
He'd done everything he could to set a trap so she could never leave, right?
But Anna knew she couldn't just break down because she still had to pay her father's high medical bills.
She must prove her innocence and work to earn money.
She hadn't been involved in her dad's affairs and didn't know what was happening. But she knew her father loved her very much, and she had to do what a daughter should do. It was her duty to support her father!
Anna calmed herself down. As far as power was concerned, she could never win over Ace. But as Ace's secretary all these years, she's learned some skills.
(In the lounge)
Anna looks at Ace, "Why do you hate me so much? What have I done to you? Ace, I've loved you with all my heart for the past ten years; isn't that enough? Isn't it enough that I love you so much that I want to give you my life?"
Anna stared into Ace's eyes, trying to see the slightest bit of emotion in his eyes.
However, there was nothing.
"Anna, whether you appeal or not, you will definitely go to jail. But if you appeal, there is still some time. Next week is mine, and Lily White's engagement party, and you are still welcome to come."
Anna shook her head, "What do you mean? You and Lily?"
Anna's voice trembled.
Ace turned his head toward her, "Would you like to take a look at the invitation?"
Anna took a few steps back and sat down in her chair, "You know Lily is my cousin. She and I haven't even met a few times. Do you have to do this?"
"Do I even need to discuss who I should marry with you?"
Anna had never had a place in his heart. Ace had never wanted to marry her.
Even though, over the years, she'd gotten used to seeing all the ugliness in the business world. Anna always believed that everything she had with Ace was pure.
Now the dream was over. It hurt.
It hurt so much that she couldn't breathe.
Anna's phone rang. It was the hospital. "Miss, The patient's heart suddenly stopped beating. We performed first aid, but he had no vital signs. When the patient was taken to the hospital, you knew his condition. We did our best, but the patient cannot survive......"
Before Anna hung up the phone, she calmly said, "Thank you," as if she had just hung up on a realtor.
She walked past Ace and out the door.
The trial began again. Anna was so calm that she didn't look like the professional elitist who had refused to plead guilty earlier. She stood quietly at the defendant's table and listened to the judge.
"Defendant!"
Anna regained her senses. She didn't look at the judge but at Ace. She smiled sweetly, just as she had called him "Mr. Robert" when they first met.
"Mr. Robert, my father, and your mother are dead. My dad had enough before he died, and I'm going to jail. As for my father's sins, I'll pay for him. I don't blame you for lying to me these past ten years."
"From now on, we're done! The last ten years don't count, and I'll pretend we never met ......" Anna turned her head to look at the judge, tears streaming down her face, "I plead guilty!"
