Chapter 3 Met with an accident

After finding out about Caesar's lover's pregnancy, Grace's world felt like it was crumbling apart. She couldn't believe that Caesar had been unfaithful to her, and to make matters worse, Sophia dared to flaunt her pregnancy. Determined to confront the situation head-on, Grace agreed to meet Sophia at a nearby café.

As Grace entered the café, her mind was filled with a swirl of emotions. She felt a mix of anger, betrayal, and hurt, but she tried her best to remain composed. Sophia, spotting her, waved enthusiastically and motioned for Grace to join her at a secluded table. Grace hesitated, but curiosity got the better of her, and she reluctantly walked to where she was.

“Have a seat…” Sophia said, waving at the waiter. Grace watched the lady closely. Sophia was undeniably beautiful, her sleek blonde hair cascading down her shoulders in effortless waves. Dressed impeccably in designer attire, she exuded an air of confidence and sophistication. Her poise and elegance were undeniable, but beneath her flawless exterior lurked an arrogant and cunning nature. No wonder Caesar chose her.

“Grace, you shouldn't take this to heart…there's no love between you and Caesar…he loves me and only me,” she remarked innocently. Her piercing blue eyes seemed to hold a constant spark of mischief, daring anyone who crossed her path to challenge her.

“Divorce Caesar, this is best for you,” Sophia knew how to play the game, manipulating situations to her advantage without hesitation. Her smile, though dazzling, held a hint of smugness, as if she was always one step ahead of those around her.

“If this is why you called me here…then have a good day,” Grace said, not wanting to spend a second near the woman who ruined her life. Sophia saw this and went after her.

As Grace stormed out of the café, her anger, and frustration boiling over, she didn't notice Sophia quickly following behind her.

“You think you can just waltz back into our lives and take Caesar away from me?” Grace shouted, her voice laced with bitterness and betrayal. “You're nothing but a homewrecker!”

Sophia laughed cruelly, her icy stare piercing through Grace's soul.

“Caesar has always been mine, my dear. He never loved you. He was just using you as his temporary plaything while I was away.”

Grace felt her heart sink, the pain of Sophia's words cutting deep.

“Leave me alone!” Grace retorted, wiping away a tear that escaped her eye. “But he married me…not you…”

Sophia's face contorted with anger. By now, both women were standing by the roadside.

“Marriage? What a pathetic joke. Caesar and I were meant to be together from the start. You were just an intruder, a temporary distraction.” Sophia shot disdainfully. Fear and rage mingled in Grace's chest as she attempted to walk away from Sophia. But in her anger, she failed to notice the approaching car, its blaring horn drowned out by the noise of their argument.

Just as Grace stepped out, Sophia grabbed her arm, but both ended up falling. The screeching tires and the sickening thud of impact filled the air as the car collided with both women.

Everything went dark.

When Grace eventually regained consciousness, she found herself in a hospital bed, surrounded by beeping machines. The accident had taken a toll on her body. Her head was in agonizing pain when she tried to move.

Grace immediately felt a surge of panic as she realized something was wrong. Her mind raced, and the first thought that crossed her mind was the fear of losing her pregnancy. Frantically, she looked around the hospital room, desperately searching for answers.

“Caesar…a-anyone,” she called hoarsely. Sensing her distress, the doctor quickly approached her bedside, trying to calm her down.

“Madam, you're alright. Try to stay calm,” the doctor reassured her. Although his words helped ease her initial worries, the uncertainty continued to linger.

Barely able to contain her anxiety, Grace finally mustered the courage to voice her concerns.

“Doctor, did… well…did I lose…m-my baby?” Her voice trembled as she looked around, uncertain of how to articulate her fears about the well-being of her unborn child. Most importantly, did Caesar know about this? Did the doctor tell him about the baby?

The doctor maintained his composure, understanding the gravity of the situation.

“No, madam, your baby is fine,” he responded in a calm and collected manner, hoping to alleviate her worries. His words brought some relief to Grace, as a glimmer of hope started flickering within her.

Grace hesitated for a moment before gathering the courage to ask about the one person she truly longed to see.

“And… and what about.. has, um, anyone been here?” she stammered, trying to find the right words to inquire about Caesar.

The doctor paused for a moment, understanding the delicacy of the situation.

“A man did come to see you,” he finally responded, his voice calm and measured. Grace's heart skipped a beat, anxiety mixing with a sense of impending heartache.

“He's with his wife, who was also in an accident with you,” the doctor continued, his words carrying a weight that crushed her hopes. Time seemed to stand still as those four simple words sank into Grace's consciousness. The room suddenly felt smaller, suffocating her with a mixture of disappointment and betrayal. A lump formed in her throat, making it difficult for her to breathe as she struggled to process the devastating revelation.

She decided to wait for him. If he knew she was not alright. He would come for her. However, minutes turned into hours. A day passed with no sign of Caesar. The doctor discharged her.

“Are you sure you have no one to pick you up?” The doctor asked when Grace was about to leave. She shook her head slightly and turned to leave, ignoring the pain in her leg. She left the hospital and headed home.

“S-she planned this… C-caesar she pushed me, Grace killed our baby!” Sophia broke into wails as soon as she regained consciousness. Caesar was by her side while the doctor stood to the sides nervously.

“Baby, I won't spare her…that's enough… I'm here,” he coaxed her to stop crying and held her in his arms.

“I won't have children…she caused this!” Sophia yelled and pushed Caesar away from her and attempted to get 9ut of bed, but she lost balance and ended up falling.

“Sweetheart, that's enough…”

“You won't love me…because I'm barren…you'll leave me for her,” Sophia continued crying in Caesar's arms. His anger flared up at the thought of Grace stooping so low as to cause Sophia harm.

“I'll make her pay!” He growled coldly, knowing Grace went far. Eventually, Sophia fell asleep. Caesar left searching for Grace. Unlike Sophia, Grace wasn't hurt that much. When he reached the room. He was told Grace had left in the morning.

Caesar left the hospital and drove straight to his mansion. Upon reaching the mansion. He stormed into the house and went straight to the bedroom. He kicked the door open, startling Grace, who was from taking a shower. In one stride he reached where she was. Grabbed her by the neck and held her tightly.

“How can you be so evil…you killed my child!” Caesar yelled, frightening Grace. The man before her was monstrous. She had never seen Caesar like this. But what was he talking about?

“I don't know…”

“You would rather not see me happy…is this why you tried to kill Sophia and my child!” the man yelled again. This time a heavy blow landed on her face and she stumbled backwards and landed heavily on the floor. Tears welled up in her eyes. She couldn't believe he laid his hands on her.

"You killed my child… you are a monster!" Caesar continued yelling that Grace fisted her dress in her hands. Her face burned within agony as tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.

“I was hurt too. Caesar, is this how you know me,” she muttered and slowly crawled up. She was heartbroken to see him accusing her of something so vile when they had been married for so long. Did he even ask her how she was feeling?

“Sign them now!” He tossed her the divorce papers. Nothing but anger was in his eyes. Grace stared at him before picking up the files and pen.

“Is this what you want…to throw me out of your life like garbage,” Grace retorted as she searched in his eyes for answers. Caesar's gaze remained icy and distant. It was clear he thought she caused the accident.

"Alright…hahaha alright…I've tried Caesar…but if this is what you want…" she retreated backwards.  Laughing at herself for being naive.

"It's clear I'm irrelevant now…I'm not needed nor do you wish to keep me here…I won't bother you," said Grace flipping the papers. Her heart was heavy with despair. Her trembling hard hesitantly searching where to sign. 'Please stop me…please Caesar,' she mentally thought. Hanging on to their relationship.  However, her name was already written on the paper.

"Take them…but just know…there's no turning back…it's over Caesar…we're done," she handed him the divorce papers as tears welled up in her eyes. Grace mustered all her strength to push away the feelings of hurt and betrayal. She knew she had to focus on herself and her unborn child. Gathering her shattered emotions, she turned away and walked to the wardrobe to pack her bags Forcing herself to hold back the tears threatening to spill over. It was time to reclaim her strength. She walked away with her luggage without looking back. Her child was more important. Even if the father of her unborn baby didn't want her.

Without knowing someone was investigating her in secret.
