CHAPTER 5: Revelation of Betrayal
Finally, I stood at the threshold of my long-awaited reunion with Ethan. The familiarity of home enveloped me, and a surge of anticipation rushed through my veins. With carefully calculated movements, I discreetly moved the plant pot aside, revealing the hidden spare key. A sense of excitement swelled within me as I clicked the door open, triumph washing over me.
With a mischievous smile, I made my way to the sanctuary of my bedroom. The plan was to surprise Ethan, to witness the look of sheer astonishment when he saw me. He would be thrilled to have me back in his arms, where I belonged. There, everything would be explained to him and my family. Their love and protection would shield me from the darkness plaguing my past. Gabriel, the source of my pain, would become nothing more than a distant memory.
As I ascended the staircase, I took a moment to remind myself of all the family photos over the years that my father had hung with such pride. I took a few steps up and frowned when uncertainty washed over me. Hushed voices seeped through the walls, piquing my curiosity. Intrigue mingled with apprehension, causing my steps to falter. Who could be here in this seemingly empty house? No cars were out on the driveway to signal anyone being home.
My heart thumped in my chest as uncertainty gnawed at my thoughts. My mind raced, attempting to decipher the mystery unfolding before my eager eyes. What was happening behind those closed doors, concealed from my sight? Realising that everything might not grow as I had hoped slowly seeped into my bones.
With bated breath, I inched closer to the source of the voices, my instincts propelling me forward. The anticipation was unbearable, a whirlwind of emotions swirling within me. Clinging to the faintest glimmer of hope, I steeled myself for the revelation that awaited me beyond the stairwell.
And then, in a single breath, everything I believed shattered. My bedroom door was slightly ajar, and I could not believe what I saw.
Mia was laid out half-dressed on my bed with Ethan on top of her.
"Oh, my sexy Mia Moo. I'm so glad that she's finally gone, and I can openly express my love for you," Ethan whispered to Mia, his lips trailing down her neck as she giggled with delight.
“Paying Craig all that money to eliminate her was worth it. And now, her foolish father will have no choice but to pass her estate and inheritance over to us. Oh, Ethan, we will be so blissfully happy and incredibly wealthy. Can you even fathom it?" Mia squealed in ecstasy.
“To think her father believes his precious daughter would have just run away. If only he knew the truth that she's dead and probably been tossed aside with the rest of the rubbish.” Ethan said, and Mia shrieked with laughter as he began to plant kisses down her chest.
Tears cascaded down my cheeks as I stood there, frozen in shock. How could they do this to me? They paid someone to have me killed and shipped me off to that dreadful island, where I was forced to be a breeder.
The person I loved, Ethan, conspired with Mia, a simmering flame of resentment igniting her motives. I never could have imagined that Ethan would go to such lengths to betray me, to betray the love we once shared.
Every hope and dream I had nurtured for our future together shattered instantly. The pain of their betrayal weighed heavily on my heart as I realised I had to escape that house before they discovered my presence. Ignoring the tremors in my legs, I fought to keep moving, desperate to leave their deceitful presence behind. The world around me blurred as I sprinted towards an uncertain horizon.
Out in the open air, my distressed emotions overwhelmed me. I fell to my knees, my stomach heaving as sobs wracked my body. With trembling hands, I wiped my blurred eyes, attempting to regain some clarity. It felt as though the ground had been ripped out from under me, leaving me adrift in a sea of confusion and heartache. How could I have been so blind to their true intentions?
My mind swirled, desperately trying to comprehend the reality of the situation. As I questioned Ethan's true feelings for me, memories of our past together taunted me. I recalled all those loving moments, the whispers of affection, and the promises we shared. It was a twisted dance of emotions, as if a veil had been lifted, revealing the deceit lurking beneath.
But the pain grew unbearable, and overwhelmed by the weight of betrayal, I closed my eyes. I succumbed to the darkness, letting unconsciousness steal me away from the intolerable reality that had unravelled my world. At that moment, I surrendered to the solace within the embrace of darkness.
