Chapter 6
Leila's POV.
Happiness isn't a word that has been in my dictionary since the death of my mother, my sixteenth birthday. A few hours ago, if I had been asked even to spell it, it would have only brought bitterness in my heart and vitality. What I am used to is anguish, animosity, shrieks, and despair but bliss? I have never heard of it or even encountered it in the last two years. Now, I can't even be able to describe what I feel, how I feel. It seems strange that the fact I was trying to commit suicide but now I am alive, laughing smiling, running, joking around and even dreaming of what awaits me tomorrow.
Thank you, moon goddess. For not forsaking me, for hearing and answering my cries.
"What are you thinking about, beautiful?" he asked.
"Do you really think that I am beautiful?" I asked since I had forgotten how it feels to be able to hear that name from anyone apart from my family, sister and brother.
"You are the most beautiful person I have ever encountered. With the best smile which flashes some dimples in them, with sparkling eyes when they glance at me. My mate is the most beautiful person in this universe. My little sunshine," he said, making me flush profusely.
"It is getting swarthy and I need to make sure that you get home safely."
"Okay," I said.
We walked hand in hand and I felt safe. I haven't felt this for so long.
"You are from the Black moon pack, right?" he asked and I hummed as an answer.
"Your wolf is big and not similar to the wolves in that pack," he said and I shifted my gaze and looked at him.
"How do you know that? You are not from that pack. I would have recognised you if you were," I said trying to come down.
I knew that there were always circumstances where rogues worked with witches and they used premonitions to make one believe that someone was their mate and wasn't. Right now, I am afraid. Afraid of the fact that I don't know whether all these are true or not. Whether he is my mate or not. Whether he was part of the people who killed my mom. Those rogues were after me and till now, I have never understood why they wanted to take me.
"Yes, I am not from that pack but I have visited the pack countless times. I can hear your heartbeat, little wolf. You need to calm down. I am not here to harm you in any way or I am pretending to be your mate. I am truly your mate, whom the moon goddess has tied you to. You are my soulmate," he said and I relaxed but there was no way I was going to let my guard down.
"Do you live with your family?" he asked.
"Yes, I do live with my sister and her mate. Our parents died," I said even that part since I knew that he would ask it.
"Ooh, I am sorry. Since you are my mate, what do you say about living with me?" he asked and I giggled, making him chuckle.
"I don't have a choice. You are my mate and we are supposed to always be together," I said courageously.
"That's my girl. I will give you a week or two to spend with your family then I will coke for you. What do you think?" he asked.
"It's okay."
I was really not in the mood for talking. I think I had done a lot of talking, running and laughing. I am so tired right now and the only thing I want is to get some sleep.
"I will not accompany you inside but I hope I will see you soon," he said.
"Yes, you will. Please come and visit me often before I start living with you," I said.
"That, I will, little wolf. We are at your pack's border so I think from here you are safe," he said and I nodded my head.
After he kissed my forehead, he asked me to cross the border before he left. I did as he asked and I started walking towards our home. Since it was late at night, no people were loitering outside and it made me happy that there wasn't anyone to meddle in my business. As I walked into the house, I remembered that I was supposed to go and never come back but here I was, returning to the place I thought I would never step in. The closer I got, the more nervous I became.
"I am going to kill that bastard. How can he do that to my sister? I thought we were all family," I heard my sister yell and I flinched.
"Now, she left because she can't handle the pain anymore," she said and it broke my heart that she was hurting this much because of me.
"Where am I going to start searching for her?"
"Calm down first, will you?" Marcus asked her.
"Calm down? How can I calm down when my sister is nowhere to be found? How can I come down when I know I didn't keep my promise to mom?" she said as she wailed.
I couldn't regulate what I was listening to. I couldn't take it anymore knowing that my sister is hurting and there is something I can do. Courageously, I stepped into the living room, making sure that I wasn't making any noise. As I neared where she was, I released the breath I didn't know I was holding.
"Elana," I called out, making them turn to me.
"Leila," she dubbed as soon as she saw me. She stood up and ran towards me.
"Where did you go? Are you okay? Are you hurt? Why didn't you tell me what was going on?" she asked.
"I am sorry. I am sorry that I left. I am sorry that I opted to leave instead of staying with both of you," I said.
"It's okay. All that matters is that you are here with me, with us, your own family," she said as she hugged me.
"Don't ever do that again, dummy. Do you know how worried we were? We felt as if we had failed you as your family," Marcus said and out of shame, I looked down.
"Why the hell did you go?" he asked.
"The place used to say it was calm and that she would one day take us there," I answered.
"How? She didn't ever tell us the direction," Elana said.
"She did tell me one day when I insisted on her."
"Doesn't that land belong to the Lycans?" she asked and my eyes widened.
"Why do you think that?"
"She told me it was meant for the lycans. It is in their land and it's why they opt to go and rest," she explained.
"Does that mean my mate is a Lycan? I asked myself.
"What?"
"Thought your mate was Liam?"
"He was till he rejected me. The moon goddess blessed me with a second chance mate and a wolf," I said.
"You have a wolf?"
"Take us, slow little girl. You have a second chance mate and you also shifted?" Marcus asked and I nodded my head.
"How? It's rare for one to be granted a second chance mate," Elana said.
"Wait, I wasn't done talking," Marcus said, making me chuckle.
"Not only that but also he is a lycan?"
"If that land belongs to the Lycans then I believe he is a Lycan himself because he was at that land."
"Do you know his name or rank?" Elana asked and I shook my head.
"Why didn't you ask?" they both shouted, making me step a step backwards.
