Chapter 5 Pay him back
In olivia's POV
It was like I was trapped in my nightmare, trying so hard to wake up. Nothing made sense, including the man who was explaining to me what had happened for the past year. Looking at the newspaper from a year ago presented before me. My heart ached, I didn't know Luciano and his family were this cunning.
They killed my family tactfully. Their mission was to kill everyone, including me. But they failed because I survived. Luciano took everything I ever cherished. He trampled over my love for him and made a mockery of the trust my parents had for him. My little brother treated him like an older brother, but what did he do in the end?
"Luciano Garcia…he did well last year as the mayor… Everyone loves him…a formidable businessman and a devoted husband to… Solange Philips…" Pedro said, going through the papers he brought for me to see. If he had known what he was doing was making me even angrier, then he would have stopped. The sight of Luciano happy in the wedding photos made my blood boil. I didn't know he had a woman in his life. She was beautiful, had a great smile, and was probably living with the murderer of a man.
"He married three months after he became a mayor…he's one lucky bastard, he isn't…" Pedro added, chuckling in between his words when I looked up at him. Anger flashed in my eyes. He was happily married after deceiving me…he dared to do this. He killed my child in cold blood, and now he was living a happy life.
"Who are you?" I asked, looking up at him. I didn't care about him or what he was trying to do. My question was simple. He had to tell me who exactly he was and why he was showing all this. Why did he go through so much trouble to save me?
"I'm the defender of mankind…like a warrior out to protect the weak," the man said as he left my side and went back to sit in his chair behind the desk. I disliked people who beat around the bush. I wanted his full name, not stupid jokes which made me upset.
"Tell me your full name, I'm not here for jokes!" I spat out bitterly. By now, I hated everyone who existed. I disliked every living being that stepped foot on this Earth because they were nothing but liars. Luciano made me love him. He made so many promises to me. He lied so much and for so long that I believed him. He broke my heart into a million pieces after making me believe in love.
"Pedro Ramirez…call me Sacha," the man said coldly, this time his expression wasn't a playful one but serious and dark. I didn't like the way he said his name or was it just his voice which had a problem…because his voice sounded dark and scary, his name had a deadly ring to it. It suited his dark demeanor.
"Mr. Pedro, thank you for being so generous…as soon as I'm out of this damned wheelchair…" I said, shoving the files he had given me to see exactly what he had to do to save my life. " I'll start work and repay every penny you spent on me" I added, knowing I would rather not owe anyone money. Especially a man like him. I didn't know who he was and where he came from. He seemed dangerous by the look of things.
He didn't say anything as he stared at me for a good amount of time as if he were trying to process something or maybe as if he could see right through me and if he did, then he should know my heart was as dark as the night. It was as lifeless as a stone.
"Work? … Ms. Altamirano…do you think you can just start work and earn money in these times?" he said after some time, narrowing his eyes shrewdly…he had no right to say that. Yes, I was away for some time. I lost my identity. I was like a stranger on this Earth, but I had to fight for justice…for my family's honor. The Garcias needed to pay for their sins.
"Let me put this straight…how long will it take for you to make enough money for a decent lawyer and fight the Garcias… two or five years?" he said sarcastically, and I saw as he took out a cigar. I didn't like men who smoked. He didn't light it up and kept it between his fingers" Let's say you find a lawyer…how are you going to prove that your lover killed your family… he's powerful… he can just bribe the judge and everything will be dispensed off," he added as my eyes shifted to his table, and I didn't like what I was seeing. There was a glass of liquor and to make things worse he smoked. But he was right. I needed to have the power to fight the Garcias. A lawyer wasn't enough. I needed concrete evidence if I wanted to fight.
"It doesn't matter…you are not god…."
"God aside Ms. Altamirano…for you to fight someone as powerful as Luciano…you need to be twice as powerful…but as I see…well…" he said as he connected the brown cigar to his mouth and attempted to light it but soon put it back on the table and looked at me with narrowed eyes.
"You don't have to worry…who do you think you are to say something like that" he had no idea what I had installed for the Garcias. They forgot I knew so many things about that. It was just a matter of time before I hit them where it hurt the most, starting from the main snake Antonia to her precious son Luciano, not to forget Alfredo, Bianca, and their little drug addict Lia. The little sister couldn't live without drugs.
"I'll make you an offer?"
"Based on what?"
"I have money, resources, and great hatred for the Garcias… I'd love to see them fall and beg in the streets like pathetic dogs," Pedro said through gritted teeth. The anger in his eyes was something I couldn't pinpoint. Over a short time, I learned how he switched moods so easily with just his facial expressions. Did he hate the Garcias as I did, and if so, what did they do to him?
"For now I'll let you rest…it's been a long day… welcome to my house…feel free to walk around…my employees are at your disposal," the man said, and I saw how anger vanished from his face and was replaced by a cunning smile. Shortly, the door to the office opened, and three ladies dressed in maid uniforms walked in with their heads bowed. They didn't dare look up, and I saw how nervous they were.
"Sir", one of them said as she proceeded in front. The other two stayed behind.
"Show the lady to her room…make sure she's comfortable…" the man said coldly, pushing the chair he was sitting in backwards and rising to his feet. I watched him as he adjusted the Blazer he was wearing…took a pair of keys from the desk together with his phone and walked away, treating us like air. The three women stayed like that as if they were remote-controlled to act. The door slammed closed, startling me as I shifted my head up.
"Welcome, Ms… I'm Helen…the head of the servants…please feel at home," the lady in front said, still bowing, and the other two nodded. Who was that man and why did everyone act as if he were a big deal…even that doctor and that Ira girl talked about him as if he ruled the world or maybe a god? If he had such powers, then why hasn't he ruined the Garcias yet or was he just another enemy they wronged just like me?
"Let's go," the girl said as he came to stand behind me and started driving the wheelchair out of the room. Of course, I didn't plan to stay here and be at some man's mercy. As soon as I got out of the damned wheelchair. I was going to run away from here, that was for sure.
