CHAPTER 3

Bright light pierced into my eyes making me whine and turn to the other side of the bed. Images and memories of my rejection, escape and attack flooded my head causing me to jerk up awake. I felt pain at the back of my head and leg from the abrupt movement and I winced tiredly. I looked around the room, it was not too big with a bed, bedside table and a wardrobe by the side. There were two doors which I assumed one led to the bathroom and the other led outside. That man would have brought me here but where was this?

Knock knock!

The door opened a second later and speaking of the devil, he walked in with a smile. “You are awake?” he said. He was holding a tray of food which he walked forward and placed on the bedside table.

“Hmmm” I hummed in reply, stunned at his appearance. He was even more handsome than I remembered and he had a sweet scent of bonfire and coffee.

‘Mate’ my wolf purred in delight, shocking me to the bones. Mate? How was this possible? I have never heard of anyone who survived the pain of rejection and even went ahead to have a second chance mate. I was really confused at this point, I couldn't understand why I was so special.

Hands snapped in front of my face pulling me away from my thoughts, “Hey girlie, you were a little lost back there” he said.

“Oh sorry, where are we?” I asked.

“We are in my pack, silver crest pack. By the way, I'm Alpha Tristan. The mating ceremony is in one month and I was out picking out some supplies when I saw you” he introduced while offering his hand for a handshake.

“What? Alpha?” I doubled over in shock and immediately tried to get off the bed to pay my respects. Alphas and Omegas were two entirely different worlds, I guess it was why he had such an imposing feature.

My second chance mate was an Alpha of the pack, what was the moon goddess up to?

“What are you doing? You are injured” Alpha Tristan asked as he came closer to stop me. His hands touched my arms, sending electricity down my body, butterflies filled my belly as our eyes connected. I felt small under his gaze, my wolf wanted me to close the distance but I resisted. Last time I thought I could have a mate that loved me I was brutally rejected in front of everyone. Denver wasn't an alpha or a stranger, he was my best friend and yet he looked at me in disgust and rejected me in just a few minutes of finding out I was his mate, then what would become of me if Alpha Tristan found out I was his mate? I stood no chance at all, it was a rejection waiting to happen.

If only I could make him see me and fall in love with me before finding out we were mates then I would stand a better chance of being accepted. He mentioned earlier that the mating ceremony of the pack was in a month's time, could I pull it off? I think the moon goddess took pity on me by giving me a second chance mate, it would be a waste to fail without trying. I didn't want to turn rogue so I made up my mind to make the alpha fall in love with me before the mating ceremony. If I succeeded I would stay, but if I didn't I would run away to avoid his rejection.

I have one month to seduce the alpha into accepting me, time was ticking… maybe it wouldn't be so hard, he seemed welcoming for someone he barely knew.

“Well, if it isn't the mutt my son so generously helped and brought back to the pack” a voice cut through our trance, Alpha Tristan backed up quickly and stood up. An elderly man walked into the room with a smile that looked fake and grey eyes that twirled with disgust. Tristan was his replica except that he was older and more emaciated.

“Father, I…” Alpha Tristan said, he looked like an obedient son as he came to stand by his father.

“My son, the Alpha is so generous isn't he? He risked his life to save a mere Omega” Tristan's father caught him off looking at me for answers.

I felt uncomfortable and awkward at his direct jab but still I had to answer because he was the Alpha's father, “Yes Sir. Thank you alpha Tristan for saving me and bringing me to your pack. I'm forever indebted to you and the pack” I said and bowed while still lying on the bed.

Tristan's father turned away and left the room, Tristan followed behind him without even sparing me a glance. They both stopped outside the room and I heard his father say, “How long is she going to stay here?”

“She's still heavily injured and because she's weak, it would take more time to heal” I heard Tristan explain.

His father sighed and said, “Look son, I know you are desperate to find your mate, you've attended ten mating ceremonies for ten years since you turned eighteen and you have not seen your mate. Don't let that desperation push you into mingling with a mutt. You are the Alpha, act like one. You have many servants to give her food, but you brought her food personally, what does that make you?”

“It makes me a weak alpha” Tristan answered, hints of regret in his voice like he just realized that he made a mistake.

“I didn't raise a weak Alpha, learn to be firm and dominant just like me. When I was an alpha, all these useless omegas did not dare to stand in my presence. They served me and the pack as slaves till they died and the pack prospered. But you, my son, disappointed me today, you say you want to walk in my footsteps and you do this?” His father said.

“I'm sorry father, I got a little distracted, it won't happen again”

“You better not. Leave the mutt alone, you saved her and that's enough. The pack will not be happy to see their Alpha playing around with an Omega, I will not be happy. If after this last mating ceremony, you do not find your mate, I will pick from the best females in the pack to mate with you and become Luna. So don't worry…”

“Yes father”

They started walking again and soon they were out of sight and earshot. I sighed after the duo left completely as I reviewed what they were conversing about. I was beginning to think that maybe the pack was different from mine when I saw how nice the alpha was to me but I was wrong, it's the same everywhere, omegas were treated poorly like slaves. During the conversation I noticed that Alpha Tristan never objected to his father's words, he seemed to be trying so hard to please him.

So, making the alpha of a pack where omegas are slaves, fall in love with me in a month's time and go against his father who he seemed to look up to.

And to think I thought it wouldn't be too hard some minutes ago…

Regardless, I will do anything to make sure I do not turn rogue from rejection the second time.
