Chapter 6 Feed Her Well

The scenes of what happened in the casino kept flashing in her mind. Amber's hands quivered out of nervousness and Stefan had cupped her chin before she knew it.

"Stay focused, little bride. Every guest is watching." He murmured to remind her calmly, making her unable to read the emotions under his eyes.

Did he recognize her?

Amber couldn't help but wonder, but his lips pressed on hers, and she voluntarily reacted. It wasn't their first kiss, but this time, Amber felt like kissing a wall, unlike that night he devoured her passionately.

He didn't recognize her, did he? Amber was inexplicably a little lost. But wasn't it better for her? The Morgan family wouldn't have approved of the marriage if they'd known she'd been a waitress at the casino. Chase's medical bills would have been canceled as well.

A loud clapping took Amber out of her reverie. Stefan politely held her hand, facing the guests, this time with a wide smile. Amber realized Stefan must be acting as she hadn't seen him smile since the beginning of the ceremony.

Looking at the perfect couple standing together, Katrina was so jealous that her nails nearly pinched her palms to bleed. The rumors fooled her! It was said that Stefan Morgan was an incredibly ugly and uneducated scoundrel. That's why she had refused without a second thought when the Morgan family proposed.

Katrina was expecting to mock Amber for the rest of her life when she suggested her mother force Amber into this horrible marriage. But now, the reality was a hard slap on her face. That fancy wedding dress, as well as the handsome groom, should belong to her both, but she mistakenly vaulted them to Amber that bitch! She was green with anger.

Valentina looked terrible but was a little more composed than her daughter. She patted her hand, "Don't worry. Stefan was only a half-exiled son of the Morgan family. Different from Kenneth, who's the rightful heir to a great family. "

Her mother's words woke her up. Katrina looked down at her belly, where the heir to Kenneth was lying. 'Mother is right,' she nodded to herself. Amber could never defeat her because she would only be dragged into the mire of poverty by her useless husband.

What good was a handsome face without money or power? With that thought, she smiled in satisfaction, trying to take Kenneth's hand but accidentally realizing that he was also staring at the couple, with solid jealousy in his eyes.

In an instant, Katrina lost sane in anger and couldn't wait to embarrass Amber.

"Hey, Stefan," she approached the newlywed couple with her arms locked to Kenneth’s. "I'm Katrina, Amber's sister."

Stefan glanced faintly at the hand Katrina held out for a handshake but didn't bother to touch it.

'What?' Katrina cursed inside as she stomped on her feet. She was used to stealing thunder from Amber, but this guy just ignored her as nothing. No wonder he had become an unwanted son of the Morgan family.

Katrina quickly squeezed out a fake smile trying to knock them down from another aspect. "Stefan, I heard you're having difficulty getting a decent job. What's your plan now that you're married to Amber?" Katrina pretended to ask curiously, hard to hide the sarcasm in her tone.

Protective instinct kicked in and Amber cleared her throat, "I'm sure our plan is none of your business. I have faith that we can run our marriage well together." She interlaced her hand with Stefan's, showing how affectionate she was as a wife.

Katrina sneered, taking it only as her bluffing. It was all believed that Stefan would be abandoned by the family soon after he built his own family. Amber would soon be homeless and poor with him.

"Oh really? I hope you will not run back to us crying for money too soon." Katrina laughed as she covered her mouth and added, "Don't be fooled by her skinny body. It cost us a lot of money to feed her."

"Of course. I have faith that I will feed my lovely wife well. She might be skinny but she's perfect I know." Stefan winked at Amber, making her blush as it reminded her of that passionate night. He did feed her well. But in a very different way.

The endearment between the two somehow pierced Kenneth's eyes. His jaw tightened in anger and extended a business card to Stefan.

"If you ever need a good job, I can help. I'm Kenneth, Katrina's fiance and...a friend of Amber." His words were addressed to Stefan but his eyes never left Amber. Stefan almost immediately sensed the undercurrents between them.

Taking this moment, Katrina chimed in. "Oh honey, I know! Maybe Stefan could be a janitor in your building. What a perfect offer!" She said it exaggeratedly, unable to hide the smugness in her look.

Irritation crossed Amber's face but before she could speak, Stefan took the initiative.

"I have my own plans. I won't be anyone's pawn despite lacking an impressive diploma," Stefan declared yet with a hint of defiance in his voice.

"You better prove that, Stefan. Amber deserves the best," Kenneth gritted yet Stefan was undeterred.

He smiled confidently at his little bride, "I know what she deserves and I'll make it real." The way he looked at her with such affection that one could mistake them for a passionate couple in love for years. Kenneth couldn't help but ball his fists, feeling the urge to clear the truth that her past was only with him.

"The car's here, sir," a man announced, breaking the standoff.

"We should go now." Without waiting for the others to speak more, Stefan led Amber straight out of the church.

Amber could feel Kenneth's eyes still clingy on her back but the past was past. Stefan Morgan, the one now holding her arm, was her present and future.

Amber couldn't hide her amazement when she got into the luxurious car. The plush leather seats and the sleek interior were far beyond what she was accustomed to. It must cost a lot.

"Stefan, where did you get this car?" she inquired, her eyes wide with wonder.

Stefan chuckled, a wry smile playing on his lips. "Well, I borrowed it from a friend."

"You don't have to do all this," Amber remarked, concerned etch her face. "We can work together and build a life practically. Fancy cars and expensive things don't matter. What matters is our commitment to each other," she pursed her lips after saying that. She might be overreacting.

Stefan looked at Amber with surprise. He wasn't expecting Amber, a Baldwin, to say something like that. Most women around him craved money and enjoyment. As soon as they heard that he was an incompetent pauper, they ran away in fear. He wasn't going to accept this marriage arranged by his Grandpa if not to fulfill the promise of his parents for him to marry Baldwin's heir.

"You're right," he agreed. "Practicality is essential. But sometimes, a little luxury doesn't hurt. It's like a reminder that life can be good."

Stefan was the first man who had said that to Amber. She only lived a good life when Monique was still alive. She had hoped Kenneth would eventually give her a good life after her long bullying from the mother-and-daughter duo, but he also betrayed her. Would this setup with Sefan last for a long time?

"Thank you, Stefan. For a good start, I will try hard to find a new job," she said with a bright smile.

"What kind of job?" Stefan asked as he supported his chin with one hand. "As a waitress at a casino?"

She couldn't help but look away, "I... I meant regular jobs. Not... not what you're thinking!"

The smirk on his face widened, "So, you admit it was you that night?"

Her eyes instantly widened at his words, "I...I don't understand what-"

"Don't try to trick me, Miss Baldwin." He suddenly approached, and the strong aura cut off her words. "If you deny it, I don't mind helping you review. After all, we're married now."
