Chapter 4: THAT'S A LIE

PRINCE SEBASTIAN

Ellen's fears emanated from her. They were perceptible. They were easy to prey on.

The Evans twins weren't making any sense at all. Ellen Evans's words didn't make any sense at all.

This petite girl played me for a fool, she had acted so daringly despite the consequences but why?

My gaze remained on her petrified frame, stricken with fear, her tone faltered as she tried to defend herself.

"How dare you do a thing as disgusting as this to your sister?" Mr. Evans who silently analyzed the situation finally broke silence.

Elena was sobbing now, she looked helpless and broken.

"You've ruined my life and happiness." Elena sniffled.

Ellen's gaze was on her. Confusion etched on her face as though unsure of what was going on. But I hadn't expected such a crafty head to turn in almost immediately.

"I can't believe this is happening." She muttered incredulously.

The wine had dulled out my wits. I had been unsure why there'd been no scent on her except the fragrance she wore.

My wolf had repulsed but I was carried away by it all. It wasn't until this morning when I caught a whiff of her true scent, rosebud, on the sheets. It wasn't until the head of the security team suspected something fishy from the video footage from the night before that I realized there had been more last night.

I summoned them and the second Elena walked into the living area this morning, my wolf identified her but she was unmarked. This was a confirmation.

"You are a dead girl. You fooled our most clever Prince?" Sir Lann, one of the Pack elders glowered.

As the events played out, Ellen grew more silent shriveling into her head, and the elders around bantered on the actions to take.

The ultimate punishment for this was death. There was no way about it. No matter how hard Zedd and Mr. Evans tried to twist this.

"You are going to face the consequences of your actions," I stated coldly and in finality.

I was immensely disgusted by such actions. I personally wanted her punished.

Zedd didn't say a word to try to stop and plead the penalty. Not even Mr. Evans for they knew how great an offense this was.

"I wanted to help you because I love you." She spoke quietly to Elena.

"By tainting the juice you gave me and trying to claim my mate?" Elena blinked at her. "You made your bed, now lie in it."

The security guard waiting pulled Ellen away. It wasn't until then did she burst forth in tears.

The rest of the day was filled with investigations on each of their claims. A blood test was carried out on Elena to learn the truth.

"Have our spies returned from the Kalain valleys?" I asked Miller my second in command.

My mind shifted off to work, dwelling on a blissful night with a deceitful wench was going to do neither me nor my territories any good.

"Nothing so far," Miller shrugged absently. "I think Elena is innocent in this. Poor girl."

"Any news from the borders?" I chose to dwell on work.

I replayed their words and events over and again in my head, there was no justifiable reason why Elena would ask for such favors.

Elena looked petrified, she looked confused, this made me want to comfort her. My wolf wanted to rip Ellen to shreds. She had ruined our perfect union. She was going to pay.

I was going to make sure.

I caught myself. Muttered a curse and shifted my mind back to work.

"You can't keep avoiding this," Miller shrugged.

"I'm not open to this discussion, " I bellowed. He went instantly silent.

The more my mind was wrapped around this, the more our night together played in my mind, the feel of her satiny skin, and the taste on my tongue. Ellen had felt so right until she wasn't.

There was a soft knock on the office door, and Zedd walked in briefly.

All I focused on was how Zedd was ever going to conceive my decision to put his sister to death. This could severely damage our relationship.

"Words from the border reaching me just now, the Outlanders have built a temporary hideout..." Zedd announced his eyes lost all the colors they used to have.

"I'll go check this out." Miller got to his feet.

"Other than the death penalty, is there no way we can go about this?" Zedd asked soberly.

He met my eyes, found the reply he needed, and swallowed hard.

"Ellen acted foolishly." He sucked in a quick breath, "Elena hasn't wronged you, please don't let Ellen's foolishness force you into rejecting your mate."

Zedd's eyes pleaded as they considered me. Was that what was troubling him?

The phone on my desk beeped, distracting the response I had got him.

Later that evening, I walked into the council where the elders gathered. Ellen stood by the corner of the hall with a security guard behind her, her face puffy and flushed.

My gaze drifted to Elena, she was beside Mr. Evans as though sticking close enough for the comfort she needed. I wished I could comfort her.

Dr. Carl proceeded forward with the results of the blood tests carried out on Elena. The truth surfaced, she had been drugged last night.

Elena broke into sobs hearing Dr. Carl's words. Her cries cut straight to my heart.

My murderous gaze snapped to Ellen, her face was clamped and her lips puckered in a manner that suggested she was not sorry for what she did.

Yeah, she will be.

"That's a lie!" She challenged, "I didn't drug her! She lies. He lies!"

"Shut the hell up, you sick child!" Mr. Evans roared at her.

"Keep going," I urged Dr. Carl on.

When Dr. Carl finished off with his medical findings. Moore the pack technical team head came forward with the receipts of their phone activities and history.

The proofs were all pointed at Ellen. Her texts to Dante, the server last night.

"I didn't text any of them..." Ellen trailed off only to add, "You had this all planned out?

"We will let the court pick things from here. Ellen will remain locked up until her sentence." I finalized things. Getting up, I exited the conference hall.

Ellen's sobs were in my head. The death sentence was never an easy one for me but well, I couldn't help it.

She had to pay for a crime that she committed.
