5. One Team
When morning finally replaced night, Victoria began to count her team members to be divided into several parts.
"Since there are fourteen of us I will divide them into four, two medics each in one team, the rest will stay here," explained Victoria.
So Victoria also recorded the presence of those on duty starting this afternoon.
"The rest will be reserves. You can help anyone here," added the girl.
"What about you?" asked one of Victoria's team members.
The girl's gaze shifted to the members one by one. There should have been fifteen people from the medical team but because one of them fell, Victoria automatically joined in while giving instructions to the others as the captain.
"I will go to the battlefield," answered Victoria confidently.
"But, you are the captain of the medical team. What about you... who will lead?" asked one of her colleagues protesting Victoria's plan to go to the battlefield.
"Alex will lead as Captain Victoria. So, you must obey him while I'm gone," said Victoria.
"But still, our Captain needs you," said Alex, the vice-captain of the medical team.
Victoria glared at the man.
"I have a job to do. So, I need you to take care of them, Alex. Since we are already on a battlefield with creatures that we don't even know where they came from, the captain for you is yourselves. So, be confident, and the only thing you can trust is your weapons." Victoria raised her weapon, pointing it forward.
Everyone fell silent.
"So, do your duty, and protect yourselves as best you can. Because even though there is a captain, it doesn't guarantee safety because this is the most dangerous battlefield. So, you can only rely on yourselves," the girl added.
"Alright. We will listen to what you have to say. You also have to take care of yourself, Captain Victoria."
"Of course. I will do my best. As you know, I like to be directly involved. So, those of you who are assigned here, do your best and take care of the others," Victoria said again.
The girl nodded. No one knew that Victoria intended to find out what mission she would be carrying out. What difficulties would occur and what obstacles would block her? Moreover, the mission was only given to Victoria, for some reason the girl was chosen.
"Okay. Let's get ready. For those on duty with the team, follow me in five minutes," Victoria ordered again.
They followed what the girl said and followed where Victoria's footsteps went.
Victoria's footsteps looked confident, sturdy, and always brave, which was why the girl became a captain. Not only was she good at medicine, the girl was also good at shooting from close and long range. Victoria's voice was also firm and loud, always agile, alert, intelligent, and everything the girl had made her get the position of captain of the medical troops. However, Victoria had a weakness, namely being easily empathetic, but at the same time, empathy was her strength.
Growing up in a military environment made Victoria learn to be independent, and try not to depend on others. That was why the girl joined the military. Victoria also liked challenges.
“You’re always ready for anything, huh, Captain Temptress,” said the voice, making Victoria click her tongue in annoyance.
“Why did you? Isn’t that a must?” Victoria replied without stopping her steps. “You as a Commander are not alert at all, isn’t that embarrassing?” the girl continued.
“Hey. Wow! You’re good at attacking to insulting others,” Sean replied.
“That depends. I only do that to you. Besides, you’re annoying, Commander,” Victoria said, not wanting to lose.
The two were still arguing even in the new place that was already alert, they were still arguing and there was no sign of either of them giving in.
The soldiers who followed the two behind just listened, no one would intervene. After all, if someone bothered, that person would be the target of their anger.
“You’re going to the battlefield, which team are you on?” Sean asked suddenly.
Victoria’s eyes glanced at the man for a moment.
“Why do you want to know? It’s none of your business,” Victoria replied fiercely.
“I’m just asking, who knows, maybe I can be on the same team as you and be your protector?” Sean said.
The girl paused for a moment then laughed and glanced at Sean.
“You’re protecting me?” the girl said in disbelief. “No, thank you. Maybe I’ll be the one protecting you,” Victoria continued.
Sean stared at the girl in disbelief.
“That hurts me, Vic,” Sean replied.
But the girl didn’t seem to care and continued to walk away first.
Sean was stunned in his place watching the girl enter the room. The soldiers who were still following them held back a smile seeing Sean who was always silenced by Victoria, but at other times it was the girl who was silenced. It was always like that.
“Why am I on the same team as her?” Victoria protested when she found out that she would be on the second team led by Sean.
“You’re always together, so it would be perfect to work together,” Commander Kevin said.
“With what? You don’t seem to know us, Commander Kevin. We are the opposite,” Victoria replied, refusing to be on the same team as Sean.
“It is precisely because I know you well that I put you on team two led by Sean.”
“But –“
“There is no objection Victoria. It has been arranged, you cannot change it even if you want to,” Commander Kevin interrupted firmly.
Inside the room, Victoria took a deep breath when she found out that she would be on the same team as Sean in the task of combing the area affected by the alien attack. The girl’s eyes glanced briefly, her lips moved in a smirk, but Sean was indifferent and continued to stare ahead.
“You will leave at one in the afternoon, and return in the afternoon. After that I will give you a definite schedule for the patrol,” Commander Kevin explained. “That’s all for now, you may go.”
No one spoke anymore and they left the room. They knew that Kevin could not be refused in any matter, big or small, once Kevin had made a decision, it could not be changed again.
“You must have done it on purpose, right?” Victoria’s voice stopped Sean in his tracks.
Hearing Victoria's annoyed voice, the soldiers there chose to leave the place first rather than hear the fight that was about to happen between Sean and Victoria. What will happen this time?
