The New Secretary

A few minutes ago...

Theo Greg, Blaze Davies' assistant as the CEO of the cosmetics company Pageant Corp, was doing his job when the phone in front of him rang.

"Hello, Mr. Greg. I want to inform you that Mr. Davies' new secretary has come to meet him," the receptionist in the lobby informed him.

"Tell her to meet me first on the 22nd floor," he said before hanging up the phone.

While waiting, Theo returned his attention to his work, until he heard a knock on the door from outside.

“Come in!”

The door opened. Theo could hear the sound of approaching footsteps after that. He finally raised his face to greet the guest.

However, his expression immediately changed when he met her eyes for the first time. The newbie also showed an unusual reaction toward him. She was calmer than he expected. She even dared to look directly into the eyes of her superiors.

‘A werewolf? Just like me?’

Having lived for centuries, Theo had often encountered fellow breeds who mingled among other humans like himself. Even though they seem to be in different circles and come from various professions, everyone knows that werewolves don't need work at all. They were generally rich after collecting money from year to year. So there were only a few cliche reasons for them to have a job; mostly just for fun like him.

The female werewolf in front of him must be the same. Who knows what kingdom or clan she comes from, what century she has lived in, but in the end, he was sure that she wanted this job for the exact reasons. It also explained why Blaze's former secretary - who was an ordinary human - suddenly stopped working and died mysteriously. This female wolf must be behind it.

"So, you are the new secretary? Why are you interested in this job, anyway? Is there a special reason?" he asked in a cold tone.

The woman was still calm while looking back at her. "You... which clan are you from?" She switched the conversation instead.

Theo Greg grinned as he replied, "Why? You want to fight me or something--"

“Just answer me if you don't want to get into trouble!”

Theo's eyes widened when the female werewolf showed him the necklace that had been hidden under her blouse. He knew it from the pendant, making him reflexively kneel in front of her.

"Y-Your Majesty... What brings you here?"

The new secretary wore a necklace which historically was only used by nobles from several kingdoms in the werewolf world. Because the color is silver, he can be sure that she came from the Notos kingdom from the south.

"You haven't answered me, though. Who are you? Which clan and kingdom are you from?" The newbie still asked him arrogantly. How ironic, because he ended up being the one interviewed by the newbie.

"I-I... My name is Theodoros. I am one of your subjects in the Notos empire." He answered while still kneeling on the floor, lowering his head. "Regarding the clan... I haven't had one for a long time," he added later.

"A vagabond? Why?" The woman just raised her eyebrows. "But, you must have had a clan in Notos. Tell me."

Theo's face hardened. He seemed to not like remembering that much. However, because the question was like an order, he had no way but to answer it.

"I am from the lowest class in Prostatis Village."

"Oh, the land of hunters. You must be a skilled fighter then. Why are you here? Is there a special reason regarding Leander?"

"I am sorry, You Majesty, but... who is Leander?" The male werewolf looked confused. Since the female refused to answer him, he clarified, "Regardless, there is absolutely no such special reason, Your Majesty. I am working here just because I want to blend well among humans. I also like the environment."

Even though she looked curious, the woman didn't seem to want to ask further. Theo was quite happy with that. He didn't want to remember his origins and past.

"I am Lillianne. I am the Luna from the Alpha king," said the woman shortly afterward.

He was even more shocked by the information. At first, he thought this woman was just from the royal nobility, but who would have thought that she was the empress? He couldn't understand why someone like her had to be in the guise of some lowly employee like that.

"I don't want to explain everything about that, but... I have to be Blaze Davies' secretary. You must help me as his assistant," she ordered shortly.

"I will, Your Majesty."

Theo Greg just said that even though he was very curious. He still didn't understand why an elite werewolf like her would do all this.

"One more thing, I want you to keep my whereabouts a secret to anyone. Don't ever tell anyone, especially anyone from Notos about me. You will get in trouble from me if you dare violate it, understand?" Luna warned him more.

"I understand, Your Majesty."

Theo Greg silently observed the two people in front of him. Blaze Davies' shocked and threatened facial expression was very visible, while the woman confidently smiled at him. Something had clearly happened between them before this meeting.

'But why, though? Why does a Luna like her involved with an ordinary human like him? She seems to be running away from home, especially from the king. What is the he doing at a time like this that his Luna is here? Flirting with a human?'

There were too many questions in the male werewolf's head. However, he had to keep it to himself.

"No. I don't want this!" The only human but highest ranking in the room suddenly exclaimed. He then turned his gaze to his assistant. "Hey, Theo, aren't there any other candidates? I don't want this woman," he said bluntly.

"But I can't do anything about that, sir. She is selected by the HR team. I've even checked her CV and I think she is a good choice." Theodoros answered quickly. "May I know why you don't want her, sir?"

"That's because... because..." Blaze Davies looked very eager to answer but then seemed hesitant to say it out loud.

"Yes, I am curious about that too, sir. Why did you immediately reject me like that? Is it because we accidentally met In Gozo Island? It's not like we did anything strange there, though." The new secretary was so dare about that. She even gave Blaze Davies that flirty look again. "Or... is there another reason that makes you react this way towards me?"

"W-What do you mean? Stop making it sounds questionable!" Blaze Davies scolded her.

"I don't know. You probably couldn't forget me since then. Then you even... had strange fantasies about me or something?" This newbie really had no fear at all.

"Why do I have to do that!" Blaze exclaimed in disapproval, which made him even more suspicious. "I just didn't like your attitude from the start. Just look now, how come you talk to me like this even when you don't even work here. Do you think I am your friend? You better know your place!" He warned her then.

"I am sorry for that, sir." The Luna seemed to be trying to control herself. She couldn't help but obey even though she looked like someone who never submitted to anyone. "Forgive me for my impudence, sir. But, please accept me working here. I really won't disappoint you."

"No. I think I have seen enough." Blaze then turned his gaze to Theo again. "Contact the HR team again to find a new candidate," he said.’

"But, sir, I don't think we have time for that anymore because--"

The assistant's words were interrupted by the sound of a cell phone ringing. Blaze immediately picked it up.

"Hello?" His face changed not long after. "Oh, Mr. Bolton, yeah, of course. I will meet you at the restaurant in Anemone Hotel this afternoon. Let's talk about our deal there later."

Lillianne Guinn's gaze immediately turned to the assistant. She sent a command without making any sound. Surprisingly, he understood it right away.

“See you later, Mr. Bolton.” The call was finally ended.

"I don't think we have any more time to waste, sir. As you know, since Sofia has been gone for just two days we are very overwhelmed. We also need a secretary for an important meeting with Mr. Bolton today, sir," Theo said to his boss after that.

Blaze looked in a dilemma because he couldn't refute it.

"That's right, sir." Lillianne joined in persuading him. "I am sorry for my wrongdoings, but I promise I won't disappoint you. I can work quickly, sir. Just tell me the details of the project and the potential client, I am sure to get the hang of it in a few hours. Please give me a chance."

Blaze still seemed unsure about that. He was still in a dilemma as he thought about it for a few minutes, before finally nodding.

"Okay. I have no choice but to give you a chance. I will see and assess your performance this week, then I will decide whether I can employ you longer or not." Blaze glanced back at Theo Greg. "Assist her, Theo. On the other hand, keep contacting the HR team to prepare several other candidates just in case. We never know whether we will get a new secretary next week or not," said Blaze before returning his focus to his computer screen.

“Yes, sir!”

The two people left the room after the conversation ended.

"Trust me that won't happen, Mr. Davies. You really don't need anyone but me. I can't wait to show you."

Again, the Luna showed her flirty manner before leaving the room.
