Chapter 2 Jilted at the Alter

Right now, Mary from the Thomas family was on a mission to find a bride for Michael.

Elizabeth's stepmom, Jennifer, caught wind of this and, to gain help from the Thomas family, set up Elizabeth to marry into the Thomas family.

Jennifer, in mock sorrow, claimed she had no choice but to pull this desperate move, all for Robert's and the Jones family's sake.

But Elizabeth knew very well that this was Jennifer and her daughter's sneaky way of booting her out of the Jones family!

What she didn't see coming was Anthony, the guy who swore he loved her, had already stabbed her in the back!

He'd been playing her like a fiddle!

No wonder Anthony didn't whisk her away.

He even had the nerve to say, "Marry Michael first, and I'll marry you once he kicks the bucket."

It turned out he was just stringing her along.

It turned out he'd been fooling around with Patricia all along.

Their past was shattered like a cheap mask.

Elizabeth leaned against the wall, feeling like her heart was being torn to shreds.

Her dad was seriously ill, Anthony had betrayed her, and she was about to marry the dying Michael.

Could her life get any worse?

"Anthony, who's better, me or Elizabeth?" Patricia asked, all smug.

"Don't even mention that old-school chick Elizabeth. She's too skinny. Not like you, who I can't stop thinking about," Anthony replied.

"Anthony, you're so naughty," Patricia's voice got all soft, mixed with some embarrassing moans.

The sounds of their hookup got louder, their bodies tangled up.

Elizabeth stood up straight, fists clenched, eyes flashing cold.

She had been considering Anthony as her rock.

But she never saw this total betrayal coming.

Elizabeth fought down the urge to bust the door open, then turned and headed to the dressing room.

She'd been too naive before. To keep things smooth for Robert, she silently took all of Jennifer and Patricia's crap at home. For the Jones Family's sake, she swallowed all the injustices.

She had enough.

She'd take back everything that was hers.

She went back to the dressing room and fixed herself up in front of the mirror.

Looking at her cold, beautiful reflection, Elizabeth had made up her mind.

The show was about to start.

The wedding ceremony kicked off.

Elizabeth, in her wedding dress and veil, holding a bouquet, walked gracefully to the music.

She made her vows and slipped on the wedding ring herself.

The guests at the banquet whispered, giving her weird looks.

She didn't give a damn.

She went through all the wedding stuff solo.

From today on, she was Mrs. Michael, wife of the richest man in Aurora Bay.

Even though her new husband, Michael, who had once ruled Aurora Bay, was on his deathbed.

The wedding wrapped up.

Elizabeth was taken to Michael's swanky mansion.

Elizabeth followed the maid, Susan Garcia, to Michael's bedroom.

Michael was lying quietly on the massive bed.

His features were sharp and defined, even in sleep, his brow had that noble vibe.

Though his face was pallid, it still looked attractive and had a kind of beauty to his handsomeness.

If he wasn't in a coma and dying, Elizabeth wouldn't have had a shot at being his wife.

Women in Aurora Bay would kill to be Michael's girlfriend, given his power and famehere as the one who was in charge of Stellar Enterprises before his accident.

Word was, he was ruthless and violent, and anyone who crossed him met a nasty end.

Elizabeth never dreamed she'd end up marrying Michael, this legendary guy.

As she was staring at the comatose Michael, the bedroom door suddenly flew open.

It was Anthony.

He barged in and grabbed Elizabeth's wrist.

"Elizabeth, I'm sorry! I was being watched closely today and couldn't get away until now to come find you," Anthony said.

Elizabeth had been fooled by his sweet talk like this before, but she finally knew his true color now.

Elizabeth yanked her hand back and looked at him coldly.

She sneered, "Anthony, I'm now married to your uncle Michael. Watch your tongue."

Anthony explained, "Elizabeth, don't be like this. I did this for your safety and happiness. Even if we elope, we wouldn't manage to live a happy life without money while on the run with all the bodyguards after us and my family wouldn't help us. I know that."

Elizabeth crossed her arms and looked at him coldly, "Go on."

At this moment Anthony felt it hard to read Elizabeth.

He swallowed and, looking at the indifferent Elizabeth, continued with difficulty, "Michael is in a coma now and can't do anything to you. You're his legal wife now, and once he dies, you can inherit his massive fortune!"

With that, Anthony excitedly grabbed her hand and added, "Then, everything he has will be ours, and we won't have to hide anymore!"

Elizabeth felt utmost revulsion at the very thought of his and Patricia's affair.

She sneered, her eyes narrowing.
