Chapter 7 I Have Nothing to Do with Them

The two cops rolled up to check out the scene, trying to get the lowdown on what went down. However, the whole family was in shambles, everyone yelling and causing a ruckus. How were they supposed to figure anything out with all this chaos?

One of the cops hollered, "Alright, enough! Everyone zip it! You step up!" He pointed at Robert in the crowd.

Just as Robert was about to speak, Mia jumped in to stop him.

But the other cop wasn't having it; he raised his hand to block Mia. "We're investigating here, and everything's on record. If you mess with us again, you're coming down to the station."

Mia had to back off, and Nathan held her back. Since Diana wanted to make a scene, they might as well all get dragged into it.

Nathan figured Diana couldn't stir up too much trouble, as she claimed they were trespassing. After all, he was her dad. How could a daughter kick out her own father?Robert finally got his chance to talk. His voice was steady and convincing. "Officer, I'm Ms. Spencer's lawyer. These three trespassed on private property. Plus, Ms. Clara Williams is suspected of assault. Luckily, Ms. Spencer defended herself. Please remove these three from the house. Thanks."

Seeing Robert speak, Clara rolled up her sleeves to show her bruises, tears welling up in her eyes, making her look pitiful. "Officer, this is my home. This woman broke in. Look at these bruises; she attacked me."

The cop saw Clara's injuries and frowned. He cleared his throat.

"The lawyer says Ms. Spencer was defending herself. Did you hit first?" the cop asked.

Clara didn't expect the cop to be so sharp and had to insist, "Of course not! Look at me, I'm like skinny. Do I look like I could beat her? Besides, have you ever seen someone start a fight and end up like this?"

The two cops exchanged a look.

Earlier, Mia said it was just a spat between sisters. Now one claimed trespassing, the other claimed assault. Who was telling the truth? They needed more info.

Seeing the cops' silence, Clara looked for backup.

"Mom, Dad! Say something! Wasn't it Diana who hit me? And you, are you all mute or something?" she yelled.

The servants behind her, scared by Clara, wished they could disappear.

Nathan looked at his two daughters. The troublemaker Diana sat there calmly, while Clara was all bruised up, looking pitiful.

"Officer, since my daughter is being unreasonable, you should take her away. She started the fight," Nathan said, pointing at Diana.

Clara felt smug as Nathan backed her up. "Did you hear that, Diana? Get out of my house!"

Diana's expression didn't change. She came back for revenge and was ready for this.

She turned to Robert. "Robert, show the evidence and explain how Ms. Williams started the fight and got hurt."

Robert nodded, pulled out his phone, found the video, and cranked up the volume.

The video started with a harsh "Diana, go to hell!" from the phone.

In the video, Clara suddenly attacked.

Even the two cops were surprised at how vicious Clara, who looked so weak, could be.

When they saw Diana kick the bottle back, they couldn't help but be impressed.

Then came the sounds of things breaking and shelves falling.

When the video ended, the cops got the picture.

"You started the fight and then tried to pin it on someone else? If that heavy object had hit someone's head, it could've been deadly!" One of the cops, all fired up, laid into Clara.

Clara shrank back, looking like a deer in headlights.

The room had been a madhouse earlier; she never thought Diana would record everything. Now, with the video evidence, Clara had no leg to stand on.

She frowned, tears streaming down her cheeks, looking all pitiful.

Clara stated, "Diana, how could you set me up like this? You came to my house, causing a scene and pushing my buttons. I just lost it for a second."

Since Clara and Diana were sisters, the cops didn't plan on throwing the book at them. It was a family squabble, and as long as no one was seriously hurt, they could mediate.

Seeing Clara cry, the cops softened a bit. "You two, can't you just talk it out? Why do sisters have to throw down like this?"

Mia saw a chance to calm things down and jumped in, "Yes, yes. You two should think about what you've done."

Diana thought it was a joke. How could everyone be so clueless? Just because she wasn't hurt didn't mean she didn't deserve to be heard.

"I've said it a million times! We are not a family," said Diana.

Anger bubbled up inside her, and Diana wanted to throw something, but the cops were still there.

So she grabbed a pillow on the sofa with one hand and pulled out the blood-stained necklace with the other.

"Officer, she stole my necklace worth millions. Is it wrong for me to take it back? She failed to steal it, saw me call the cops, and tried to kill me. She thinks she's above the law. Why can't I call the cops on her?"

Clara was still putting on her act, tears on her cheeks. She didn't expect Diana to be so direct.

Clara immediately denied it, like she hadn't just tried to snatch the necklace. "I didn't! You say I stole your necklace, but where's the proof?"

Robert's video didn't catch that part.

But Diana pointed to Clara's neck. "The necklace still has your blood on it, remember? The wound on your neck is still there. Want to test the DNA?"

Clara instinctively covered her neck, but to the cops, that was as good as a confession. This wasn't just a family spat; it was attempted theft and assault.

The two cops got serious. "Miss Williams, you're coming with us."

Clara freaked out, hiding behind Mia, her voice shaking. "Mom, I don't want to go to the station! It's Diana, that witch, who came to mess with us. Why should I go to the station?"

Mia had no choice but to look to Nathan for help.

Mia and Clara's eyes were on him, and Nathan couldn't stay quiet anymore. He said, "Officer, let me be straight. The one who dialed 911 is my daughter with my ex-wife, and the other is my current wife's daughter. We're one big, complicated family. If you don't believe me, check it out. No need to go to the station for a sisters' fight. Besides, look at Diana, she's fine, and the necklace is in her hand. No need to blow this up."

The two cops hesitated a bit.

Diana laughed out loud, stood up, and clapped for Nathan.

'So he can defend his daughter, but just not me. What does he mean I'm not hurt? If I had been hit, who would stand up for me?' Diana thought.

The sharp sound of her clapping cut through the room. When she stopped, Diana spoke mockingly, "Nathan, my last name is Spencer. There's no father-daughter relationship between us!"
