Chapter 35 Mr. Howard Is in a Bad Mood
After class, Rupert drove his Lamborghini and took Alice to Bernardin Restaurant.
Alice frowned. "Here?"
Rupert looked confused. "What's up?"
"Nothing, let's go." Alice felt a bit nervous, hoping not to run into Henry.
Once inside Bernardin Restaurant, the waiter led Rupert and Alice to their reserved table.
A woman in a bright red short dress was already sitting there. She had on sunglasses that covered half her face, showing only her bright red lips. She sat there, arms and legs crossed, like she owned the place.
Rupert reached out to hold Alice's hand, but she just linked her arm with his.
He glanced at her hand and smiled, "That works too."
Rupert led her to the seat and greeted the woman across from them. "Ms. King, hello."
Calliope King took off her sunglasses and gave Alice a once-over, her tone dripping with hostility, "What's this? Bringing some random girl to humiliate me? Do you think this ordinary woman can compare to me?"
Rupert was about to lose it, but Alice stopped him. She smirked, "Your forehead's filled, your eyes are done, your nose is padded, and your chin is shaved. I might be ordinary, but at least I'm not a walking plastic surgery ad!" Alice hugged Rupert's arm and winked. "Honey, don't you think so?"
Rupert was thrilled to hear Alice call him "honey," and he nodded eagerly, "Yes!"
But Alice's smile started to fade.
Murphy's Law was in full effect. If she worried about something happening, it was bound to happen.
Alice was worried about running into Henry at Bernardin Restaurant, and sure enough, there he was.
Henry was sitting on the second floor, looking at her. His deep eyes showed no emotion, cold and distant. Then, his lips curled into a sneer as he turned away and continued his conversation with the guy across from him.
Alice pressed her lips together, feeling incredibly unlucky.
She furrowed her brow, thinking she needed to explain to Henry later.
After all, she had just told Henry a few days ago that she liked him, and now here she was, holding Rupert's arm and calling him "honey."
She didn't want to come off as a love fraud. Maybe Henry didn't care, but she did.
Rupert, this idiot, was really messing up her love life.
She felt a bit helpless because the drama wasn't over yet.
Just as Alice turned her head to say something, a cup of hot coffee was suddenly thrown in her face.
The burning sensation made Alice furious. If Henry weren't there and she didn't have to keep up her pitiful and soft persona in front of him, she would've sent Calliope's plastic surgery face back to the clinic for another round!
Rupert was instantly enraged. He stood up and poured two cups of scalding coffee onto Calliope's face.
Calliope screamed, covering her face with her hands. "Are you crazy? Damn it!"
Alice took the napkins handed by the waiter and quickly wiped her face, hair, and white shirt. "I need to go to the restroom."
Rupert nodded. "I'll go with you."
But Calliope lunged at Rupert, hitting and kicking. "You ruined my face! You're not going anywhere!"
Alice ignored the scuffle between Rupert and Calliope and quickly walked to the restroom.
Luckily, the coffee wasn't too hot. Alice's cheeks were just slightly red, and there wouldn't be any blisters or marks.
She washed her hair and face, but the shirt was stained with brown-black spots that wouldn't come out.
She sighed and walked out of the restroom.
Alice looked up and saw Henry leaning against the wall, smoking.
Seeing her, Henry stubbed it out and tossed it into the white sand of the trash can.
Alice walked over, feeling a bit nervous and uneasy. "Uncle Henry, believe me, I only like you."
Henry's gaze swept over her face, his expression unreadable. He then turned away, "Your liking is really cheap!"
Alice had expected this. She chased after him and grabbed his hand. "Uncle Henry, it's not what it looks like."
Henry shook off her hand, his eyes and voice cold, "Stay away from me!"
The warmth of Henry's palm disappeared from her fingertips. Watching Henry's tall, resolute back, her empty hands gradually clenched into fists.
He had always been distant, and now he probably hated her even more.
Turning the corner, she ran into Rupert, who had come to find her.
"How did it go?"
Alice shook her head. "It's nothing."
"Let's go to the hospital."
"The coffee wasn't that hot. If something happens, I'll go to the hospital. Did she scratch your face?"
Rupert touched his cheek lightly and hissed, "That Calliope is out of control. But it's worth getting hurt, better than her pestering me. Sorry for dragging you into this."
Of course, you should be sorry!
Alice sighed, feeling helpless and resigned, "It's fine, but don't involve me in such things again. I don't want to make enemies."
Rupert scratched his head. "I'll take you to dinner and buy some clothes. Your shirt is ruined."
"No need, just take me home."
Rupert nodded. "Alright, I'll take you home."
The car stopped at the gate of the neighborhood again, one mile from Bluewater Bay.
Alice watched the car drive away before heading towards Bluewater Bay.
At this moment, the atmosphere inside the Maybach was extremely tense.
Ethan glanced at the rearview mirror and cleared his throat, "Mr. Howard, the burn ointment you asked me to buy earlier..."
"Her skin is thick enough. What does she need burn ointment for?" Henry's eyes were icy, his tone cold and mocking.
Hearing his words, Ethan felt a bit helpless.
Alice returned home, skipping lunch because she had no appetite.
She lay on the bed, kicking her legs irritably.
She called Henry, but the line was always busy. She then realized she must have been blocked.
So, she sent a message on Facebook, only to be reminded that Henry had blocked her there too.
Finally, she called Ethan, "Mr. Ross, can you put Uncle Henry on the phone?"
Ethan glanced at Henry's grim face in the rearview mirror. Henry's imposing and cold demeanor made it hard to look directly at him. "Mr. Howard, it's Miss Savoy's call."
Henry said indifferently, "I won't answer."
Ethan cleared his throat, "Miss Savoy said she wants to explain what happened earlier."
"No need."
Ethan had no choice but to relay Henry's words.
Alice frowned. "Put it on speaker."
Ethan felt that Alice was the source of Henry's anger, and Henry hadn't been in a good mood for days. Not just him, the whole company knew Henry was in a bad mood. And he thought problems should be solved, not avoided, so he bravely turned on the speaker.
Alice's voice came through, "Uncle Henry, you blocked my phone and Facebook. I couldn't reach you, so I called Mr. Ross. Can you add me back? Let me explain what happened today, and then you can block me again, okay?"
Alice's soft tone dissipated some of Henry's anger.
Henry kicked the back of the seat. "Hang up."
