Chapter 37 Do You Think I'm a Fool
The president's private elevator dinged open, and out stepped Henry and Ethan.
Alice, spotting the glowing Henry, got up from the couch and walked over with a dessert box in hand.
Just then, a strong whiff of perfume hit Alice, and a stunning woman breezed past her, heading straight for Henry.
This woman had these captivating eyes and was drop-dead gorgeous.
Her snug white business suit showed off her curves, and with a couple of buttons undone, she was flaunting some serious cleavage.
She stopped in front of Henry, extending her hand. "Mr. Howard, hi, I'm Harper Hughes, president of Harvard Real Estate."
Henry gave her hand a quick shake and let go. "Hello."
"Thanks, Mr. Howard, for letting me join you in checking out the new property," Harper said with a flirty smile.
Henry just nodded, not even sparing her another look, and kept walking.
Alice bit her lip and stepped in front of Henry. "Uncle Henry."
Henry looked at her, his face blank, eyes cold. "Do you remember what you said before?"
Alice, standing at 5'8", was tall for a woman, but next to Henry's 6'4" frame, she seemed small. She lifted her pretty face. "I do. I said I wouldn't say or do anything to bother you anymore. But today, I need to explain what happened at Bernardin Restaurant."
"Is it necessary?" Henry's icy voice cut through the air.
Alice felt a sharp pain in her chest. She tightened her grip on the dessert box, determination in her eyes. "I think it is."
Henry sneered, took a step closer, and said in a low voice, "Those emojis showed your true feelings. Are you trying to fool me after messing up? Alice, do you think I'm an idiot?"
Alice's eyes filled with tears. "But you blocked me first..."
"Don't come looking for me again. The Howard Family owes you nothing. I owe you nothing!" Henry said, striding away.
Harper raised an eyebrow, a triumphant smile on her face, and hurried to catch up with Henry.
Ethan sighed, shook his head, and followed.
Alice hung her head, letting out a soft sigh.
Suddenly, someone appeared beside her.
Alice glanced over and saw the receptionist looking at her with envy.
"So you weren't here to see Mr. Oliver Howard, but Mr. Henry Howard!"
"Yeah, are you planning to call security to kick me out?" Alice noticed the receptionist was overly excited.
The receptionist shook her head vigorously and grabbed Alice's hand. "Miss Savoy, you're amazing! You actually got Mr. Howard to talk to you!"
Was talking to Henry really such a big deal?
Feeling a bit helpless, Alice handed the dessert box to her. "It's for you."
The receptionist, flattered, accepted it and thanked her profusely.
Alice waved her off and left.
At the entrance of the Howard Group building.
Henry got into the back seat of the car, and Harper tried to join him.
Henry, with a hint of annoyance in his eyes, said, "Ms. Hughes, don't you have a car?"
Harper leaned in, showing off her cleavage, and said sweetly, "Mr. Howard, I thought it'd be better to discuss the inspection details in the same car."
Henry glanced at Alice in the distance, then back at Harper. "Get in."
Harper was thrilled. For years, no woman, except family, had ever sat in Henry's car. She felt special, like she was Henry's type.
Ethan closed the car door, gave Alice a sympathetic look, and got in.
Alice felt a pang of frustration. Could Henry really be into that busty Harper?
Just then, Esme's call came through. "Alice, how'd it go? Did you manage to calm Henry down?"
Thinking about Henry, Alice remembered the emojis she sent and felt a bit helpless. This whole thing was a constant reminder of her dumb mistake. "No, he's tough to appease."
"Let's hit the sea tomorrow! It'll help you chill out."
"I don't want to go. I just want to stay home and figure out how to make things right with Henry. He just let some busty woman into his car, and it's driving me nuts."
"Henry's being ridiculous! He's totally trying to make you jealous! You need to win this time! A weekend island trip with a bunch of hot guys! Make Henry jealous!"
"I'll think about it."
"Just do it! I'll have Charles set it up. Wait for my message! If Henry really doesn't care, he won't come with us. Then you should move on! No one says you have to marry the guy you lost your virginity to!"
Alice walked to the curb and hailed a cab, feeling drained. "Alright, do it. I'm getting in the car."
"Okay!"
After getting in the cab, Alice said, "To Bluewater Bay."
In the Maybach.
Harper eyed Henry's perfect profile, thinking he was so dazzling. She couldn't help but scoot closer to the middle.
Henry frowned, a cold aura radiating from him. He said in a deep voice, "Stop the car!"
Ethan obeyed and pulled over.
Henry glanced at her, his cold gaze piercing through her. "Get out."
Harper's smile froze. "Mr. Howard, what's wrong? Did I do something wrong?"
Henry impatiently kicked the back of the seat. "Ethan."
Ethan got out and opened the car door. "Ms. Hughes, please get out."
Harper couldn't shamelessly stay in the car any longer. She had no choice but to get out, and just as she wanted to say something, Ethan closed the door, cutting off her view.
After Ethan got back in the car, Henry said, "Back to the Howard Group."
Soon, the car stopped at the building entrance.
Ethan opened the door, and Henry got out, his eyes filled with disgust. "Disinfect the car inside and out. It smells terrible."
"Yes."
Watching Henry walk into the building, Ethan sighed. 'Henry is totally fine with Alice in the car.'
Henry walked into the lobby, and everyone greeted him with nods.
As he passed the reception, he noticed a familiar dessert box. He walked over and picked it up. "This is mine."
The receptionist fell silent. It was clearly hers now, what was going on? Last time it was taken too, what the hell?
Watching Henry walk into the exclusive elevator, the receptionist suddenly realized that Mr. Henry Howard had actually spoken to her!
Back in his office, Henry placed the dessert box on the table.
He took off his suit jacket and disdainfully threw it into the trash can, calling for the cleaner to dispose of it.
Henry walked into the restroom in the lounge and meticulously washed his hands repeatedly. After drying them, he sat down at his desk.
He carefully opened the dessert box, revealing four different colored, translucent desserts.
Each dessert had a small label indicating its flavor.
Light pink was white peach. Light red was rose. Light green was lime. Light blue was blueberry.
Henry took out the light pink one and removed the label to take a bite. The dessert had white peach flesh in the middle, fragrant and sweet.
He tasted the other three flavors in turn. He had to admit they were the best desserts he had ever had.
The previous gloom was swept away. Recalling Alice's dejected look, he felt a bit uneasy.
He picked up his phone and stared at Alice's name in the blacklist. His thumb hovered over it as if he was contemplating something.
At that moment, the group chat was blowing up, with messages popping up like crazy.
