Chapter 50 Make You Happy at Night
Alice raised an eyebrow. "What's going on with Oliver?"
Clara's eyes flared with anger. "Did you set him up with a guy?"
Alice shrugged. "Does he even like guys? I have no clue about his orientation. But you're his fiancée, shouldn't you know?"
"Cut the act, Alice. It was you, right? You paid a gay guy to mess with Oliver so he wouldn't fall for you."
Alice burst out laughing, looking at Clara like she was a joke. She grabbed Clara's bag and pulled out a voice recorder. "Trying to get me to confess?"
"You!"
"You know exactly what you did!" Alice turned off the recorder and tossed it back into Clara's bag, then threw the bag at her. "Don't try to pin this on me!"
As Alice started to leave, Clara rushed forward, blocking her path. "Alice, it had to be you who made another deal with that guy after I approached him. Otherwise, you should've been in his bed that night!"
Alice laughed. "So, you admit you hired someone to assault me?"
Clara screamed, "I hate you! Why do you get an engagement with the Howard Family, and I don't? Why do you want to come back to the Savoy Family and fight me for assets? Why don't you stay in the countryside or stay ugly like before?"
Alice's face darkened. "Don't mess with me, or I'll make sure you and your mom don't get a single dollar! Clara, everything the Savoy Family has is from the Capulet Family. You and Elodie shouldn't be so greedy!"
Clara's lips trembled as she watched Alice walk away. She shouted, "Alice, you're just a pitiful dog with a dead mom and a dad who doesn't love you!"
Alice stopped in her tracks, then turned back and walked towards Clara.
Clara was so scared she kept backing up. Just as she was about to turn and run, Alice grabbed her hair.
Alice spun Clara around, still gripping her hair, and slapped her so hard Clara's head buzzed. "I told you, if you mention my mother again, it won't just be a slap." Alice slapped her again. "Don't worry, I'll definitely give you a big gift for your wedding!"
Clara's eyes widened in terror. "What are you going to do?"
"People who do bad things can't hide forever!" Alice slapped her again. "This slap is from Henry!"
With that, she let go and walked away.
Clara's eyes widened even more. She watched Alice's back and shouted, "What do you know? Was it you who knocked me out that night? Speak up! Come back and explain."
Alice didn't waste any more words on her and left without looking back.
Back home, she started working on her design drafts. The new manuscript needed to be finalized in three days.
Loshanda Airport.
A petite figure rushed into Henry's arms. "Uncle Henry!"
Henry smiled, patting her back. "Haven't seen you in six months, you've grown taller."
Ophelia Howard stepped back from Henry's embrace and pouted. "Uncle Henry, you always tease me. It's not my fault I'm so short." She then turned to Marlowe Boleyn walking over. "Mom, Uncle Henry is bullying me again! Help me get revenge!"
Marlowe walked over and hugged Henry. "Henry."
"Marlowe, didn't Lucas come back with you?"
Marlowe sighed. "There's some trouble with the project in Country A. He'll be here for Oliver's wedding."
Henry nodded. "Let's go, Dad's waiting at home."
An hour later, at the Howard Manor.
The family sat around the round table for dinner.
Ophelia kept talking, making Paloma laugh heartily.
Marlowe glared at Ophelia. "Ophelia, don't you remember the rule? No talking while eating or sleeping?"
"Why are there so many rules? If I had known, I wouldn't have come back here for school."
Paloma had a kind smile on her face. "Ophelia is still young. Besides, the culture in Country B is different from Stellaria. It's okay."
Dash seemed to remember something and turned to Henry. "Henry, has Ophelia's school been arranged?"
Henry nodded. "Yes, she's enrolled in the Archaeology Department at Loshanda University."
Marlowe sighed. "I don't know why a girl would like a job like archaeology."
Dash disagreed. "Although it's tough, it's a job that serves the country. I think it's great."
Ophelia raised her chin. "My idol is the master of art restoration and treasure appraisal, Dragon Slayer."
Oliver scoffed. "A master? He's clearly a tomb raider, and you idolize him like that."
Ophelia snorted. "So what? Dragon Slayer relies on his own skills. Unlike you, who just asks the family for money!"
Hearing her words, Oliver's eyes darkened, but with Henry around, he couldn't blow up. He just slammed his utensils on the table and stormed out.
These past few days, he felt suffocated and needed to blow off some steam. Once outside, he called Oscar, "Find me two girls, I'll be there soon!"
Dash was not happy with Oliver's exit. "Oliver's been spoiled rotten! Henry, when are your brother and sister-in-law coming back?"
Henry replied calmly, "They'll be back for Mother's birthday."
Dash slammed his utensils down. "Their son is acting like this, and they're still off traveling! Henry, come with me to the study!"
Marlowe tapped Ophelia's head with her utensils. "Troublemaker, keep your mouth shut during meals from now on!"
Ophelia muttered under her breath, "So bossy, can't even speak the truth."
In the study.
Dash sat on an antique chair and looked at Henry across from him. "Our family's wedding with the Savoy Family is coming up. You should prepare for a press conference. This will boost both families' stocks."
Henry nodded. "I'll hold it tomorrow."
"There's an important dinner tomorrow night. You'll attend with me."
Henry had promised Alice to take her to Bernardin Restaurant tomorrow night. Anna had told him they had new pastries.
Dash noticed he seemed distracted. "Henry, did you hear me?"
Henry nodded. "What time?"
"Six in the evening. Do you have plans tomorrow night?"
"Yes."
"Tomorrow night's dinner is very important. If you have plans, postpone them. This concerns the major interests of the Howard Group."
Henry rubbed his cufflinks and lowered his eyes. "I understand."
Dash then discussed some recent projects and stock issues of the group with Henry. By the time they finished, it was already eleven at night.
Henry originally wanted to spend the night with Alice but saw that she had sent a goodnight message at ten-thirty.
After thinking for a moment, he decided to stay at the old house for the night.
The next day, Henry took Ophelia to Loshanda University, where the new principal was Simon Roberts.
After some pleasantries, Ophelia was placed in the first year of the Archaeology Department.
Outside the office building, Ophelia waved at Henry. "Go quickly, I don't want the others to know you're my uncle, or I won't make any real friends."
Henry smiled, "Alright, Caleb will pick you up tonight."
Ophelia nodded and watched Henry leave.
Henry got into the car and called Alice. "What are you doing?"
Alice had just finished class and was packing her bag. "Thinking about you!"
Henry was clearly pleased by her words. "I talked with my father late last night, so I didn't come over. I originally planned to take you to Bernardin Restaurant tonight, but there's a last-minute dinner. Can I take you tomorrow?"
Alice knew Henry had many social engagements, so she understood but still pretended to say, "What should I do? Even though I understand, I'm still a little unhappy."
Henry chuckled, "I'll make you happy tonight. Don't go to bed too early, wait for me."
"You, as an old man, should be more restrained."
Henry narrowed his eyes. "People always pay for their words and actions."
They then chatted a bit more before hanging up.
Alice was in a good mood all day.
By the time her classes ended, it was already five in the afternoon.
Since Henry was busy, she had to have dinner alone.
There was a food street behind the university, lined with small restaurants. One of them was Alice's favorite.
She walked in and sat in a corner, then called the waiter to order her food.
After a while, a girl sat across from her. "Hey, can I share this table with you? All the other tables are full."
Alice looked around and saw that there were indeed no empty seats.
She then looked at the girl with a slightly round face and big eyes, who smiled cutely, and nodded.
After looking over the menu, the girl ordered the same thing as Alice. Then she chatted non-stop about her impressions of Loshanda University and the interesting things that happened today.
Alice listened quietly, finding her overly enthusiastic and brave personality quite interesting.
After finishing her meal, Alice stood up to leave.
The girl, with her mouth full, said, "Goodbye!"
Just as Alice walked through the back street, ready to leave, five men suddenly emerged from the alley with knives and clubs in their hands.
