Chapter 4 Anna's Suicide
"Where is she now?" George's face went white as a sheet, his voice rising with panic.
"She just got rushed to the hospital, it's really bad!" Olivia's voice was shaking.
"I'm on my way!" George hung up, his heart pounding with worry. He bolted out the door.
As the door slammed shut, Emma stood there alone, feeling lost. After a moment of shock, she quickly called for a car and followed George.
At TeleHealth Hospital, Emma trailed behind George to a specific room.
The light was warm, but Anna on the bed looked pale and out of it.
When George burst in, Anna's eyes fluttered open, a flicker of hope mingled with the unmistakable pain in her gaze.
"George..." Even in her weak state, Anna reached out, wanting to hold him.
George's heart broke, and he gently held her, whispering, "Why did you do this?"
Anna nestled into his arms, tears streaming down, "I was so scared. Are we really meant to be apart?" Her voice was fragile, like he was the only thing keeping her safe.
Emma stood quietly at the door, her heart aching with a bitterness she couldn't describe. The warmth and affection that once belonged to her had now shifted, enveloping Anna in a way that seemed irrevocable.
Just then, the door flew open, and Olivia stormed in, eyes blazing with anger, "You have no shame! What are you doing here?"
Emma was startled, stepping back, feeling a wave of hurt. "I just wanted to see Anna."
Olivia sneered, pointing at Emma, "You ungrateful wretch! How dare you come here!"
"Why wouldn't I? I didn't steal or rob anything!" Emma's voice shook with anger, "Between George and me..."
Olivia cut her off, stepping forward with fury, "Get out! Leave now!"
Olivia shoved Emma hard, catching her off guard and sending her to the floor.
George saw it but only glanced briefly before turning back to comfort Anna.
Emma sat on the ground, her heart aching even more, "Please don't treat me like this. I care about Anna."
"Care?" Olivia's eyes blazed, "You have no right! You shameless bitch! Our family took you in, fed you, clothed you, and you repay us by stealing Anna's fiancé!"
Olivia was talking about the night three months ago when Emma ended up with George, but it wasn't something Emma had planned.
Emma wanted to explain, but before she could, Anna's father, Jerry Jones, slapped her hard.
The slap made her mouth bleed instantly, stars dancing before her eyes. She instinctively protected her stomach, but Jerry slapped her head again.
"You're the one who should die!" Jerry shouted.
Emma's mouth bled, her head throbbing with pain. She looked up painfully to see Anna leaning against George, tears in her eyes.
If it weren't for that night, George would be with Anna now, not her, an orphan living under someone else's roof.
