Chapter 5 The Conspiracy Unveiled

Even though hooking up with George wasn't part of her plan, Emma couldn't shake off the guilt she felt right now.

Anna lay in George's arms, looking all innocent and fragile. She glanced at Emma with hurt in her eyes and whispered, "Emma, if you like George, you could've just told me. I wouldn't have fought you for him. But why did you have to go behind my back like this?"

"Anna, it wasn't me..." Emma tried to explain.

"If it wasn't you, then who was it?" Jerry yelled.

Jerry angrily swung a chair in the hospital room, and Emma instinctively shrank back, her hands protectively covering her belly.

"Get out now! Do you want to get beaten here?" George's cold voice cut through the tension.

Jerry froze, and Emma narrowly avoided a nasty hit.

Emma was in agony, both physically and emotionally, with Olivia's harsh words echoing in her mind. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw George holding Anna tenderly, which only made her pain worse.

She struggled to her feet and headed to the emergency room for treatment, hoping to clear her head.

After getting bandaged up, the physical pain eased a bit, but the emotional pain just got heavier.

She walked out of the emergency room and headed to the restroom, where she accidentally overheard a low conversation in one of the stalls. The voices were faint but familiar, making her stop in her tracks.

"If I hadn't gone to the wrong room that night, I would've been the one with George! How did that country bumpkin get so lucky? Just thinking about George being with her makes me sick!" It was Anna's voice, full of anger and resentment.

'Country bumpkin? Is she talking about me?' Emma listened quietly.

"It really pisses me off! I planned everything so carefully, spiking George's drink and calling the media the next morning to catch us together, forcing Charles from the Russell family to agree to our marriage. But I got the room number wrong and ended up with a thug, while Emma got lucky!" Anna fumed.

"Don't worry, George only has eyes for you." Olivia's cold laugh followed. "If it weren't for her bone marrow being a match for yours, we would've never adopted her in the first place. She's just a nobody. How dare she compete with you for a man."

Emma felt like a knife had been plunged into her heart as she listened outside the door. Shocked and hurt, memories of that awful night came flooding back. She wanted to keep listening, but the fear was almost paralyzing.

"I will make George divorce her!" Anna's voice, laced with anger and regret, pierced through Emma's heart.

"Anna, you need to stay calm," Olivia said softly. "We have plenty of time. Sooner or later, we'll make her lose everything. You saw how George treated Emma with disdain earlier. It's clear that George only married Emma because of Charles. Once he gets the chance, George will definitely divorce her and marry you."

"Yes, I will make her understand that George only loves me." Anna's tone grew more determined.

Emma's hands clenched unconsciously. She suddenly realized that the family ties she had relied on were so fake. Even her marriage was a result of someone else's scheming.

"By the way, Anna," Olivia's voice came again, "later, call George and tell him that after he left, Emma came to the hospital and acted arrogantly. You need to make sure George feels sorry for you, so you can win his heart and become his wife."

These schemes and traps made Emma feel dizzy. The pain and despair gnawed at her, nearly overwhelming her resolve. Tears threatened to spill from her eyes, but the anger boiling within her heart kept them at bay.

Since the Jones family didn't care about her, why should she care about so-called family ties? She had no more concerns and directly spoke harshly, "Anna, as long as I'm alive, you will never become George's wife!"
