Chapter 10

Robert gave a nod to Joseph, then turned to Rachel and said, "Hey, I heard from John you've been picking up some dance moves. Wanna show me?"

Rachel, feeling unusually upbeat, replied, "Sure, why not."

Hand in hand, they headed to the dance floor, leaving Joseph to shake his head and mutter, "That guy's got layers."

Being a model, Robert nailed the dance steps like a pro. The DJ had already dimmed the lights, making the dance floor look like a starry night. Under the dreamy lights, they moved in sync, catching everyone's eye.

John, chilling at a nearby table, raised his glass and let out a whistle. Just as the dance was peaking, Rachel, a bit rusty, stumbled. Quick as a flash, Robert caught her, pulling her close.

Rachel found herself pressed against Robert's chest, feeling his heart pounding.

Right then, Michael walked in, his eyes narrowing at the sight. The usually composed Rachel looked both alluring and vulnerable in another man's arms. His face darkened, a storm brewing inside.

Robert whispered in Rachel's ear, "Rachel, he's here."

Rachel had already seen Michael's reflection in a nearby mirror. She smiled casually and fixed her messy hair, "I'm kinda hungry. Let's grab a bite."

As Robert let her go and they stepped off the dance floor, they passed Michael. Rachel paused just a bit, lifting her eyes to meet his. To Michael, it was a clear provocation.

"Rachel, stop right there!" Michael's voice was sharp, full of irritation.

Rachel turned with a mocking glint in her eyes, "Mr. Smith, what a surprise. Didn't think I invited you, did I?"

Ignoring Robert's cold stare, Michael spoke to Rachel, "Considering our divorce is fresh, you should be more careful in public. You might not care, but the Smith Family has a reputation."

Rachel found his concern laughable, "It's rich of you to lecture me. And honestly, who I hang out with is none of your business."

Unfazed, Michael replied, "You misunderstand. I'm not trying to interfere, but your antics have caught Grandma's attention."

Rachel's smile froze. "Grandma Smith is back?"

"Yeah, and she wants to see you." Michael glanced at Robert before adding, "Of course, if your dates are more important, feel free to ignore her."

Without waiting for a response, he turned and left. Rachel's face showed mixed emotions, but after a pause, she decided to follow him.

"Rachel..." Robert started, ready to follow, but she stopped him with a reassuring smile. "Don't worry. I'll be fine."

Watching Rachel walk away, Robert's eyes were filled with sadness. Just then, he noticed a shadow in the corner.

Joseph walked out, looking awkward, and cleared his throat, "I was outside smoking and overheard their chat."

Robert looked indifferent and ignored him.

Joseph, amused by Robert's coldness, said, "You like Rachel, right? Don't worry, I'm not competing with you."

Robert coldly replied, "It's windy out, Mr. Anderson. You should head back." With that, he walked away.

Joseph was stunned for a moment, then shook his head with a smile.
