Chapter 3 Big Mistake

Ellian

"What nonsense are you saying? I killed Luna Lyanna?" My Beta sparked at Ray.

But Ray wasn't afraid to speak up. He kept pointing to my Beta as the culprit.

"Yes, it's you. Did you think I'd forget after you knocked me out? " Ray questioned my Beta, rising to his feet.

This was beginning to confuse my people. Ray claims he saw my Beta killing my Luna and my Beta claims he didn't.

What is going on?

"That night when the rogues came to attack, I was with the Luna, trying to protect her. She suddenly left my point on seeing Fiona in trouble," Ray started.

"I had to follow to make sure they were safe, but I couldn't just leave with all the rogues coming after me."

"When I found a way to escape them, I went after Luna Lyanna to find her trying to pull Fiona from a cliff. A rogue had almost killed Fiona and Lyanna saved her," He said.

"I wanted to step out and help, but I saw him..." He points at my Beta. "Stepping out from the bushes to meet the Luna."

"That's a lie! I was never there! " My Beta yelled.

"Quiet! " I yelled at him, silencing him from interrupting any further.

"I saw you Beta. I thought you were going to help those sisters, but no. You pulled out your dagger and stabbed Luna Lyanna from behind. I saw it all. You are the murderer!" Ray accused.

"Bloody liar!" My Beta groaned.

"Alpha, when he noticed my presence, he came after me and knocked me out cold. I thought I was a goner, but I can see the goddess had a reason for keeping me alive up until now. She wants me to reveal the truth of that horrible night," Ray shared, getting all teary.

My body shivered on hearing Ray's words.

All these years I've been thinking that Fiona is at fault for allowing Lyanna to die, but the real culprit has been by my side all these while.

My Beta killed my mate.

"The Beta is the killer!"

"He killed Lyanna!"

I heard my people's voices in the background, as they all faced the Beta, pointing their accusing fingers at him.

That night came flashing back to me. The one who brought Lyanna's body back here was my Beta. He claimed he found Fiona with Lyanna while searching for them.

"You lied to me, " I said, facing my Beta.

"Alpha, don't believe a word he says. I did no such thing! I didn't kill the Luna!" He yelled, trying to defend himself.

But the moment he saw he had no chance of hiding his lies, he pulled out his weapon and dragged Lyanna's mother into his hold.

"Leave her!" I yelled.

"I will kill her if anyone nears me. Stay back! " He ordered, frightening everyone with his actions.

I wasn't going to let him get away with this. He killed my mate and even dared to bring her body back to me.

I trusted him to be my right-hand man, and he did this to me.

With anger, I charged at my Beta with speed. He didn't see it coming.

He tried to avoid me, but my guards quickly got hold of him from behind, saving Lyanna's mother from his threat.

Once my guards had him bound, I ordered, "Lock him up. Make sure he never sees the light of day. He'll pay dearly for what he has done."

"Yes Alpha, " My guards said, dragging him away.

"You're making a big mistake, Alpha. A big one! " He yelled out as he was being pulled away.

A strange feeling came to my heart when I dropped my eyes on my people and Lyanna's parents.

This feeling is one of guilt.

"Fiona, " I uttered her name, understanding why I felt that way.

For five good years, we all blamed her for Lyanna's passing. We accused her and wished her dead when she wasn't at fault.

That poor girl has been treated unfairly by everyone, including me, the Alpha.

It's my duty to make my people feel safe and at peace, but I joined the numbers in ruining her life.

What have I done?

"My Fiona has been accused wrongly. My poor girl," Her mother cried, holding her husband.

"We didn't know that my Beta was the killer. If Ray hadn't woken we wouldn't have known the truth."

"We have been cruel to that poor girl. She didn't deserve all that treatment."

I heard my people, showing their guilt towards Fiona.

The moment last night's encounter with Fiona came to mind...

"No, Fiona!" I uttered, remembering her words.

"Alpha, what happened?" Both parents questioned me on hearing me exclaim out Fiona's name.

They don't know what is about to happen. They don't even know what transpired between Fiona and me last night.

"I don't have time to waste. I have to go, " I said, rushing out from their midst and out of my home.

I raced down to Fiona's home, with my mind on last night's event.

The pains in her eyes when she rejected me. The sadness in her voice when she chose to leave this pack for good.

"Please, let her be at home."

Getting to the door, I opened it, calling out to Fiona, but no answer.

"Fiona, where are you?" I kept calling, moving around the house to find her, but no trace of her anywhere.

Just when I was about to enter a different room, I came across a note on the table.

I picked it up and realized it's a note from Fiona to her parents.

"Mom, Dad, I'm leaving," I read, feeling a sharp pain in my chest.

"The home which used to keep me safe since childhood, brings nothing but fear and pain into my heart. Even your love for me is gone, and I can't bear to be the cause of it. I've decided to leave you all, so no one can feel hurt over what happened five years ago. Truly, I wish I was dead and not Lyanna. I hope you all find peace in my absence. Fiona, " I read her note.

"She's gone." My back met with the wall.

"I'm too late, " I said, feeling guilty for everything.

I can't allow Fiona to leave. I have to find her and bring her back to the pack.

She belongs here with us.

"I'll correct everything and give her the justice she deserves. I need to find her, " I decided.

No matter where she might be, I will find Fiona.
