Chapter 5 Near Death Experience
Fiona
My heart raced faster and faster as I saw the multitude of wolves that surrounded me. I couldn't find the right words to say.
I mean, where would I start from? The last thing I could recall was passing out in a thick forest. How did I get here without noticing? What kind of drug did they use on me to move me around without me noticing?
I was shocked to my bone marrow.
Fright was eating me up. The hefty wolves that surrounded me breathed heavily making their chest seem like they would jump from their spots. I tried to figure a way out.
If I tried to run, I would certainly get caught and if I tried to protest, I had no weapon to defend myself with. I was just a she-wolf with no distinct qualities. I didn't even know how to do the simplest martial arts defensive technique.
I should have joined Lyanna in the fields to learn all of these, if I had, I would have used it in this pressing situation.
Right now, I was caught in between a trap. How will I get myself out? An idea popped up in my head. But then, it was too late.
As I raised my face from where I bowed, I saw a sword coming down to slash me into pieces. I squeezed my eyes to say my last prayers. Perhaps, this is just my fate. Just like my sister, I was bound to leave the face of the earth to join her.
Maybe, it was the best thing to happen to me because my life was already a mess and I can't even deal with it.
I couldn't control anything and depression was soon going to send me to an early grave anyway. So, why not accept my fate? My heart skipped and I held my breath.
"Dear moon goddess, thank you for finally taking me to where I prolly belong", I muttered under my breath. "Stop!" a hoarse voice blared. I managed to open my eyes slowly to see if I was still alive.
My wolf whispered into my ears. "Fiona, you are not dead yet". I swallowed hard the saliva that gathered in my mouth and finally, inhaled and exhaled some good air.
"Untie her!" the order went again and time wasn't wasted to untie me. My heart kept beating fast. I didn't know what the man who seemed like the leader wanted from me.
Therefore, I wouldn't jump to conclusions. It was too early to be happy. I didn't know his true intentions yet. "Relax, don't hurt the young lady yet", the man said as he got down from his throne-like chair. I felt a cold shiver run down my spine.
The supposed leader of the group walked closer to me and every step he took sent chills down my spine.
Did he stop them so he would kill me himself? I knew about bosses who didn't want their inferiors to take the glory for murdering their prey. They loved to be at the forefront as they enjoyed the authority that came with it.
Looking at the squad, I could already see that they were a group of rogues prolly hiding out so they wouldn't be caught. The vicinity was quite odd and no one would stumble on them easily. They were in the middle of the thick forest.
I wondered how they survived because I couldn't see any food or water around.
What do they feed on? Was I about to be their meal? These wolves were fierce and if I tried anything funny here, I would be in for their wrath. "What's your name young lady?" he asked when he drew a halt right in front of me. My heart raced even faster.
I had mixed feelings and couldn't find my voice. "Fiona", I whispered. His fierce eyes pierced through me and I felt a cold shiver run down my spine. I swallowed hard the saliva that gathered in my mouth.
"Speak up, Fiona. Speak!" my inner wolf pressed. Then my name blurted out of my mouth. "Fiona!" He took a step backward. "Easy, girl…" he pleaded-his voice soft and reassuring.
I could see how his eyes trailed my body from my feet to my forehead back and forth in quick glances.
I wondered what was going through his mind. I hope he wasn't going to take advantage of me? I froze at the spot until he spoke again. "Relax, I won't hurt you", he said. "Call me Jerome", he said.
I saw the surprised looks on the faces of his squad members. Was it unusual for him to act this way? Was he luring me into believing that he was a kind person and then finally chopping off my head? "Oh! Moon goddess, please come to my rescue", I prayed silently.
He took some steps toward me again and my heart began to race again. This time, it was about to jump out of its spot. "You don't stay quiet when I speak", his harsh voice pierced through me.
"I told you, Fiona. Speak up! Don't stay silent. Rogues like this hate it", my inner wolf retorted. I took a step backward. Then, the wolves moved closer.
Fright overwhelmed me. What will I do? Lyanna, please save me. I can't get through this alone. I cried out silently.
"Where do you think you are going to? You can't escape, Fiona", he stressed on my name just like Lyanna always called. He took quick steps towards me and grabbed my arm.
It was strong I couldn't budge. Why would I? He had warned me sternly not to do anything funny. I only had the moon goddess and Lyanna to help me out of those dangerous situation.
Else, I would be in trouble. Better still, I will meet Lyanna in no time. I cried out silently to Lyanna in my heart. If she wanted me to come join her immediately, then, let her watch as I will be butchered by these wolves. If she wanted the opposite, let her send someone to save me.
"Don't be scared yet, Fiona. You are lucky my mind doesn't consent to sending you to an early grave but…let's see if my boys want the same", Jerome spilled. I was already getting relaxed by the second but not the last statement until he spilled the last.
Now, I had no other escape route. I will surely meet Lyanna in a couple of minutes.
I resolved to say my last prayers once again.
"What should we do with the lady?" he turned to his boys. None of them said a word. Then, Jerome flashed a smile at me. He placed his hand on my head and rubbed gently staring into my eyes.
Cold shivers run down my spine. What was he trying to do now? Oh! Moon goddess…save me from this…I cried out under my breath.
"Well…she looks innocent and pretty as well. I think I will send her to the boss", he spilled. My eyes widened. There was another boss other than the one in front of me?
I mean, there was someone in higher authority than Jerome?
