Chapter 2

Cindy's POV

"Moon goddess, please bring her back to me!!!!" Who the hell was that? She was screaming, and I don't know why my heart aches for her. Who the hell is the moon goddess? My eyes were so heavy, but I tried to open them up. I want to see the woman who was in deep sorrow.

beeeep...

What are those beeps I'm hearing?

Beep...

Beep...

Beep…

Just as I've tried, I finally opened my eyes and stayed that way. I didn't move; I just studied my surroundings and how I felt, looking at the ceiling. I was in a room, and it was a little dim. It was not too dark, but not too bright either. I felt my eyes were heavy, but I fought not to close them again. I wanted to know where I was and what I was doing here.

I tried to remember what had happened, and my memories started to flash simultaneously.

*** Flashback ***

"Cindy, stop crying already," my friend Lin said as she stroked my back, trying to calm me. I remember my dad, and I can't believe that he is gone now. He never told me that he had a heart problem, and Lin, his doctor, was the only one who knew about it. She said she couldn't tell me about his condition because Dad made her promise not to. She, too, felt sorry for me because she had to hide that from me.

"How can he let me be like this? He knew that we only had each other," I said as I continued crying. We were in my apartment, preparing to head to a mall to unwind and temporarily forget my dad's death.

"Don't say that; I am still here. Mike is still here," she replied. Mike is my boyfriend, and we had planned to tie the knot if Dad hadn't passed away. I was not in the mood to celebrate or get married when I was mourning for my loving dad. All my life, I saw how devoted he was to me. He didn't even look for another wife to be with and chose to raise me by himself. He is the father every daughter would want.

I was hugging Lin when the door opened, and Mike came in. "Hey," he said and sat beside me, so I hugged him steadily and felt him give my back a light tap, as he always does whenever I am in this state. For him, I was a crybaby, as I always cried, even at the slightest thing, like watching a movie drama. I felt Lin getting up from her seat, maybe to give Mike and me time alone.

"Drink this to calm yourself," my friend said when she returned with a glass of water. I took it and drank everything. I put the glass on the center table and found her smiling. Nothing was wrong if it was not the kind of smile a friend should give to someone grieving. I creased my forehead and tried to ask her, but I suddenly felt my mouth numb.

"What?" she asked, her smile looking evil now. It was as though I didn't know who she was at all, even if she had been my friend, or rather, best friend, since our childhood. She was the daughter of one of our maids and was one of my dad's beneficiaries. I treated her like my sister, and I was always by her side, especially when someone was bullying her. So why is she giving me that scary smile? And why can't I talk?

"You can't talk? Do you feel your mouth and tongue going numb? Don't worry, it was only the beginning. Just a little bit more, and you'll feel like your whole body is paralyzed before you get a heart attack," she said, giving me that evil smile again. "Just like your fatherrrr..." she said in a low and mocking voice. My eyes widened when I realized what she meant. Did she just admit to killing my dad in front of Mike? Did he know about it?

Mike stood up and joined Lin on the L-shaped sofa. They were both smiling at me before they turned to each other and kissed. My heart broke, not because my boyfriend and best friend had cheated on me, but because I allowed my dad to die while the culprit was right under my nose. My tears fell when I realized how hurt my father was, thinking the person he treated like his own daughter did that to him. He was such a loving person; those two evil people sitting before me knew that. I could not tell them what I wanted to say because, as that bitch of a best friend of mine said, I started to feel paralyzed.

"Hahahahaha, the bitch is crying! You are acting like you own the world, right? You didn't see this coming. Well, tell you what, I was so annoyed with you. You have everything while I work hard for what I have!" She was insane and ungrateful. My father gave her everything she needed. Whatever Dad buys for me, he sees that she has it. Ungrateful bitch!

They didn't end up just kissing; they continued what they were doing until they were entirely naked. Mike's face was between Lin's legs as she moaned in pleasure, calling out his name. Mike was the same; he was calling the bitch's name as he took her. They were still not done. Lin bent over and supported herself with her elbows on the center table as Mike took her from behind. I saw how pleasurable she was feeling while I wanted to kill her myself.

"Ahhhh, Mike, babe! Yes! That's it, ahhh..." Lin's unending moaning came right to my face while she was smirking at me.

"You have never felt this, right? You were too righteous and conservative to give this to Mike, so he looked for it in someone else. He was lucky to find this in me. Ahhhh, babe, faster!" she screamed.

"Yes, baby. It would be best if you had let me taste her first before we did that to her. Oh, fuck, I've wanted to fuck her endlessly ever since she said yes to me." They were so immoral to talk about something like that in front of me.

"We can't risk that. You know that she knew self-defense. What if it backfired on us?" Lin replied. "Ahhh, fuck Mike, faster, I'm cumming," she screamed again. Then I felt my heart clenching, and I wanted to hold my chest but couldn't. My tears continue running down my face, and before I close my eyes,

Beep…

Beep…

Beep…

"Clear!" said the voice I would never mistake for anyone else. It was that bitch! Did they take me to the hospital?

"It is going to be heart failure," she said again. So that is what she did to my dad?

"Cindy, please hang on," she said while crying. I wanted to spit on her face, but my helplessness and inability to fight back caused my tears to fall again.

"We need to operate on her," the bitch said in a rush.

"Yes, Doc." Everyone replied, and I knew it was the end of me. This is how she killed my father; no one will suspect her. Everyone knows how close we are. As I prepared myself to die, I promised myself, 'I am going to get back at you two and make you pay tenfold even if I had to crawl back from the grave.

And that's it—nothing more; I'm dead.

*** End of Flashback ***

So, why am I here? Where am I even?

"Clover?" I heard that woman's voice again; her face was right before mine. She was full of tears, and I saw how happy and worried she was as she looked at me dearly. I blinked my eyes many times and found out I was in a hospital. I didn't know who the woman was crying for. And why am I even alive?

"Who is Clover?" I asked, but she turned her back to me and shouted,

"Doctor, doctor, please come and look at my daughter. She's awake!!" Wait. What? I'm her daughter. How am I, her daughter? I never saw or remember having a mom ever since. I was always with my dad, and he was alone. Then people started coming in, and I heard them gasp. I looked at them and saw a man who was also about to cry.

"Oh, my princess," he said, hugging me as he cried. The woman who had been with me earlier was beside him, and I had a feeling that he was her husband.

"Clover, dear, how are you feeling?" the woman asked again.

"How are you feeling, Clover?" The woman in white, who I assumed to be the doctor, asked too.

"I am not Clover," I replied in a hoarse voice. The woman took a glass of water and handed it to me. I was hesitant because it was after I drank a glass of water that I saw Lin's evil smile. She looked sad as I stared into the glass of water she was holding.

"It's OK, Melinda; let us not force her," the doctor said, and she nodded.

"Clover," the doctor said again, so I shook my head and replied,

"I am not Clover."

"If you are not Clover, then who are you?" the woman asked. She looks really sad now, maybe because I was denying that I was her daughter.

"Princess, what do you mean you are not Clover? Of course, you are my only daughter and princess, Clover," the man said.

"Melinda, Noah, she must not be in good condition yet, so we will just let her rest," the doctor told them, and they both looked down.

"Clover, you have to rest, and we will talk tomorrow, OK?" The doctor told me, but I didn't say anything.

"I am going to inform Alpha about this; he told me to do so when she wakes up," she said as she looked back at the couple, who were now nodding. Just what the hell is Alpha, or who is he or she?

I don't think I need to think about these people; now that I'm alive, I'll make sure to make that bastard Mike and bitch Lin pay ten times as promised.
