Chapter 3: Boiled Rage
Isadora's POV
He smiled at me with what I later knew was relief.
That is why I went to Nyxen, my best friend, who had betrayed me. Although internally, I was boiling with anger, I forced a smile and congratulated her on her pregnancy.
I completed the remaining part by moving around, congratulating, and wishing everyone a blessing. I did everything with a pinch of sorrow, but I understood that this was my duty as the Luna of the pack. I could not afford to show the pack what I was feeling.
It felt like an eternity after the two weeks since Nyxen's pregnancy revelation.
I was getting depressed as my thoughts were overwhelmed by the past few weeks' occurrences and things to worry about. But then I resolved to visit the medical practitioner for a check-up to ensure everything was in order.
I was getting scared, and my heart was pounding when I was waiting in the doctor's office. I felt like something was fishy when the doctor I was expecting came in with a smile.
'Isadora,' he began, a glint in his eyes, 'I need to share something with you.'
"You are excited about the idea of having a child."
My thoughts were spinning as I looked dumbstruck. "It's impossible," I mumbled.
"Well, since Nyxen got pregnant, Ragnar and I have not been physically involved in any manner. "
The doctor smiled at me as he approached me, then said, "According to the test results, you are now eighteen days pregnant."
I was lost, and I tried to find out what had happened. Then, a memory of a few nights ago came up in my mind. Again, I noticed that Ragnar and I had a passionate night four weeks ago.
'That must have happened then,' I said, with a smile on my lips.
The doctor smiled and nodded in reaction to the woman's words. Implementing the restructured action plan is proceeding well, so Isadora, congratulations.
We know you will provide a home and raise a child, or children will be used instead."
My thoughts continued to pound rapidly like a bass drum. When I left the doctor's office, I could not believe what I saw in detail.
Indeed, there was no way I was going to hold back, and the next thing I knew, I rushed into Ragnar's office with a grin plastered on my face.
I can share great news with Ragnar immediately and have an amiable and understanding attitude toward his desire to change his work," I said.
And then, one day, the usually stern Ragnar blinked in surprise and happiness and came to me from behind the office desk, embracing me tightly.
''Really?''
He came in at the right time, just when we were deep into celebrating what was simply unforgettable. Despite her attempts to smile happily, her face displayed acts of jealousy.
"Well done, Isadora," she said, clenching the utensil between her white teeth. What a joy!" 'I am so glad.'
But then she became reticent, speaking through clenched teeth. There was evident demonisation and hatred in her eyes. I could notice that she was irritable, and this is so because I was fully aware of the situation that had befallen her.
"Thank you, Nyxen," I managed to say softly because the wave of emotions that flooded me when I saw the girl with the amulet threatened to overpower me.
She looked at me as if she did not know me and possibly wasn't pleased to see me in the first place.
"What do you mean?" "How can you still sleep with that big dummy, Ragnar? You haven't slept with anyone since I told you I was pregnant."
It made me wonder why Nyxen could ask Ragnar such questions, and it was embarrassing to be asked if we were intimate or not when it was none of her business.
Ragnar could have asked me the question he posed to me, but he interrupted me before I could respond.
"You have no right to ask that, Nyxen," Ragnar retorted scornfully. "Isadora is still my Luna and our married dealings are strictly between us. "You have no right to inquire about them."
I saw the anger in Nyxen's gaze, and I was sure I would rather face a large group of inclined soldiers instead.
Nyxen frowned, which made jealousy evident on her face; nevertheless, she could quickly mask it and reply, "Sorry," with an evil twist on her lips.
"Oh, congratulations again, sweetheart," she said, leaving the room immediately.
I shivered, placing my hand gently over my stomach in a protective gesture. I was sure Nyxen's jealousy would complicate things; thus, it became apparent. Nyxen attempted to keep her discomfort discreet, but sadly, I realised my pregnancy was practically bothering her. What puzzled me was why it affected her so much if she was also pregnant.
Was it jealousy, or maybe there was something else—perhaps she wanted more than friendship with him?
I roughly rubbed my eyes and attempted to fully wake up and expel the tiredness lingering in my muscles. However, the room door opened before I could stand up from the bed, and two guards rushed in. They pulled me out of bed by my arms and dragged me out of bed.
"What do you mean?" I exclaimed, shocked and angry, trying to escape their grasp.
"Let me go!You have no right to treat me like this! Do you both even care to listen to me?"
But, strangely enough, they categorically turned a deaf ear to my protests and dragged me out of the room and across the corridor. I felt knots of fear and bewilderment uncoil in my stomach and start to pound in my temples while I tried to follow, struggling to keep up with the pace they set.
What is happening here? I would like to know why they have decided to treat me in such a manner.
I realised all the pack members were present when we entered the main chamber. Ragnar and Nyxen were standing, both at the front.
My heart sank, and when I spotted the vicious sneer on Nyxen's face, I realised whatever was going to occur next could not be good.
