Chapter 10 An eerie side of town

Ethan's eyes turned icy; the coldness of his heart evident on his facial features "You came here so late to ask this?"

His gaze was deep and frigid, sending shivers down one's spine. Britney answered:

"Now that Lina has returned from her trip, I thought you wouldn’t have anything to do with Olivia anymore. That annoying brat doesn't deserve you at all!"

Ethan suddenly rose to his feet, casting a dangerous aura in the room and over his sister:

"That’s beside the point, Britney. Actually, I have a question for you…Did you spill oil in the garden so that Olivia would get injured?”

Britney cried out, "How could you think something like that of me?"

She was deeply hurt that Ethan questioned her good nature over someone who only stayed with him for a year, compared to her 24 years of companionship.

Fury glinted in her eyes, and she said with a sneer:

"Is this what Olivia told you? She knows that I like Lina, so she framed me in front of you to turn you against me! You can't trust her, and you can't let her get away with it!"

Ethan's lips curved into a sharp arc as he looked at her coldly:

"Britney, there are things I will only say to you once."

Britney raised her head to meet her brother's gaze, whom she thought had always spoiled her.

"She's pregnant with my child now and doesn't like you. Therefore, until the baby is born safely, you should not come to the mansion again."

It was not up for a discussion, but a direct order.

For the first time, Ethan was stopping his own sister from coming to his home. Britney’s face was filled with disbelief, and she asked:

"Ethan, do you hear yourself?”

He handed her a card and said calmly, "Take a trip abroad during this time to relax." And although his tone was soft, his eyes were glacial.

Britney recognized the warning signs of her brother's displeasure. Ethan had always been her caring and devoted older brother, and she had idolized him her entire life.

She wouldn't tolerate anyone speaking ill of him and believed he was the most intelligent, capable, and deserving man in the world. However, Olivia, a country girl, had managed to ruin their sibling relationship. Britney despised her for it.

With tears in her eyes, she reluctantly agreed to leave. She didn't want to be thrown out and lose face as a well-known lady. She didn't want to cry in front of her brother either. As she left the villa, she turned back to look at the brightly lit house, her expression contorted in anger. She knew her brother's recent behavior was partly due to Olivia 's pregnancy. If the child wasn't there, she was confident she would still be the one her brother loved most.

With determination in her eyes, Britney pulled out her phone and dialed a number, saying, "Hey, I need you to do something."

"The night is fleeting," Olivia said, rubbing her eyes as she sat up in bed.

Ethan turned to her with a smile. "Did you sleep well?"

"Yes, I did. Since I became pregnant, I haven't had any other symptoms except drowsiness. I guess the baby doesn't want me to suffer," She replied, stretching her arms.

Ethan nodded. "That's good to hear."

After breakfast, Olivia got up and prepared to leave. But at the door, she saw Ethan on his phone.

"Going out?" he asked, ending the call.

Olivia nodded.

"Where to? I'll give you a ride," Ethan offered, holding out his hand.

"No need, you are busy with work," Olivia declined.

But Ethan insisted on holding her hand, causing a tense atmosphere between them. Olivia knew she had to agree to his request otherwise he wouldn’t let her leave the house.

"Thank you, let's go," she sighed, taking his arm instead.

Later, Olivia spent the morning interviewing with several companies for a job but was turned down due to her pregnancy.

Feeling discouraged, she found a place to rest and wait for her phone to ring, hoping that it would be one of the companies she interviewed for.

When Ethan’s assistant called to pick her up for lunch, Olivia hesitated before giving her location to him. It was an odd thing since Ethan never called her out for lunch before but she was hungry and would like to have a nutritious meal.

As she sat in the car, she realized that Ethan was not with them and began scrolling through job postings on her phone. But by the time she looked up, she noticed they had been driving for almost half an hour.

Olivia asked him, "Where are we going, Ken?"

He replied in a low voice, "We’re going to a private restaurant. Please rest assured that I am Mr. Williams most trusted person, and I will take good care of you. Don’t worry.”

Olivia chuckled, "I trust you, Ken. But, just in case, I'm not worth much anyway so if you try to sell me, you’ll only waste your time."

Ken Einstein gave her a cold look that mirrored Ethan's, "Don't say that. You are worth everything to Mr. Williams."

Olivia didn't speak again, but as the car turned left and right through the alley, she noticed the old and dilapidated buildings surrounding her.

"This area looks a little sketchy. It seems to have been forgotten a long time ago.” she remarked.

Finally, Ken stopped the car and said, "We’ve arrived."

Olivia got out of the car and waited for Ken to return from parking. As she looked around, the environment felt strange, like a huge maze, and the silence was eerie.

Just as she was about to call Ethan, she heard a child's cry. "Mom..." the boy sobbed, and Olivia followed the sound until she found a three- or four-year-old boy alone in the alley.

She moved forward to comfort the child, but a woman suddenly appeared and pushed her away.

"What are you doing?!" the woman screamed, protecting the child from Olivia.

Before Olivia could respond, a man approached with a club in his hand. She pleaded, "Don't!" but he struck her abdomen, causing immense pain. The man hit her again, and Olivia felt something leave her body, crying out for her the child in her belly.

“No…I’m…Pregnant…”

The world around her faded, and Olivia lost consciousness.
