Chapter 2 Lina's look-alike

Olivia’s complexion turned ashen as she recalled the events of last night. She had experienced some unexpected bleeding and assumed it was an irregular period. However, a visit to the hospital this morning confirmed that she was actually pregnant. Little did she know that this unexpected news would become the very reason why her husband would no longer trust her.

"Mrs. Hansley, please refrain from making any more inappropriate jokes, or you will come to regret it. Do you understand?" His words carried a weighty warning, sending a shiver down her spine. “You’re not pregnant and pretending that you are won’t make me change my decision.”

She opened her mouth to reply, but her entire body trembled as she felt the commanding and powerful aura emanating from Ethan for the first time since revealing her pregnancy.

Olivia knew that any further words from her could result in Ethan’s personally ending her life. Even if she was pregnant, she knew he wouldn't want to keep the child.

He was done with her and didn't want any more entanglements. The lack of joy on his face upon hearing her pregnancy confirmed her fears. The harsh reality hit her hard, and it was like she had fallen from heaven to hell. The past year had been a dream that she couldn't return to, her marriage was nothing more than that: an illusion.

Ethan went away without another word, leaving behind the dinner Olivia had put so much effort into. A sharp pain in her lower abdomen reminded her of the doctor's advice to take good care of her fetus.

Olivia was determined to keep the child, even if Ethan didn't want it, as she had lost the comfort of having a family and couldn't bear to let go of the one thing she had left. She stood up, ready to go to the pharmacy to get some medication for her baby, something that she’d planned to do with her husband but all hopes were now lost.

As Olivia walked towards the door, she was surprised to see an uninvited guest waiting for her at the entrance. It was none other than Britney, Ethan’s sister, who was renowned in California as a socialite and the beloved daughter of the Williams family. Olivia knew that Britney had always looked down on her, and to make things worse, she hadn’t come alone. There was the haughty assistant of Ethan: Kevin Einstein who was glaring at her with disgust obvious on his face.

"So, are you planning to run away?" Britney taunted, eyeing Olivia up and down. "Do you think you can avoid signing the divorce agreement?"

Those words hit Olivia like a ton of bricks. So, Ethan was indeed planning to divorce her for a while now, and she had been the last to know. Britney’s arrogance only grew, and she sneered,

"My brother has the entire town under his control. Do you really think you can run away from him?"

"I suggest you sign the papers and give up your position as Mrs. Williams," She continued, her face twisted in a condescending expression. "Maybe my brother will be kind enough to give you some benefits if you obey."

Olivia was confused and asked, "What do you mean by giving up my position as Mrs. Williams?"

"That's exactly what it means," Britney said, taking out a check and writing down a large sum of money before shoving it in Olivia’s face. "Sign the divorce papers, take the money, and then leave. Don't stick around and bother us any longer…The only reason why my brother married you was because you look like his first and only love. In the end, he realized that despite having Lina’s face, you still will never be half the woman she is. "

Britney said those hurtful words, as she bumped into Olivia’s shoulder to get inside the villa and walked up the stairs. The check she wrote fell to the ground, but nobody picked it up.

Olivia’s face turned pale. She had been told before that she looked like the supermodel Lina Ortega, except that she was an ordinary girl while Lina was a wealthy and talented woman: America’s sweetheart. She never realized that Ethan was using her as a stand-in for that supermodel.

She thought his affection and care for her was a sign of love, but it turned out he was in love with another woman.

Ethan’s assistant, Mr. Einstein, stepped forward to handle her divorce request. Olivia was hurt and angry, feeling used and betrayed. She didn't want any compensation and was free to divorce at any time. Mr. Einstein advised her to think of herself and ask for a living guarantee, but Olivia declined bitterly.

She called a taxi and left what used to be her home, her husband’s house. The driver asked why she called a taxi at such an expensive villa area, but Olivia remained silent, feeling dizzy and nauseous, unsure if it was from motion sickness or a pregnancy reaction.

Noticing that she was not responsive, the taxi driver tactfully changed the subject, asking:

"Miss, where are you headed?"

"To the hospital," she replied numbly.

As they drove towards the city center, Olivia felt increasingly uncomfortable and struggled to hold back the urge to vomit. The driver abruptly pulled over, warning her not to throw up inside the car and suggesting she step out and vomit by a nearby trash can.

Olivia did so, knowing that she wouldn’t be able to hold down her puke any longer. She rushed out of the car and to the trash can where she emptied her guts.

After vomiting for a while, Olivia wiped her mouth and began walking back to the car, only to be stopped by a burly man who asked if she was new in town.

Olivia stared at him with a scowl on her face. His dirty look was making her sick all over again. She wasn’t in the mood to deal with a creep.

Realizing she was outside a strip tease club, Olivia tried to leave, but the man, known as Mr. Willow, refused to let her go. He grabbed her by the arm, his nails digging into her skin and making her squeal in pain.

The older man laughed, showing his upper teeth that were covered in diamond stones.

“Stay here, angel. I think you just might be a gift from God.”

His free hand reached out to cup her breast. Olivia smacked him in the face but Mr. Willow was much stronger than her and her poor attempts at defending herself were of no use.

She turned, pleading for help from the taxi driver. The latter saw her teary face but quickly drove away, leaving her stranded and alone.

As Mr. Willow and a female companion of his tried to force her into a white car, Olivia caught sight of a black vehicle and managed to break free and run towards it in a panic.

Maybe the person driving it would be able to save her.
