Chapter 3 Good samaritan

Olivia ran after the black car and the closer she got to it, the more familiar it appeared.

She waved, recognizing the plaque number of her husband’s car. Relief washed over her and she quickly forgot what had happened a few minutes ago. Surely, even though she’d been served divorce paper, Ethan would not dare to leave her alone in a situation of danger.

…Right?

The car slowed down and came to a halt. As soon as Ethan stepped out of the it, a slender figure rushed into his arms, carrying the familiar scent of gardenia. The woman was crying and shaking uncontrollably.

"Babe! I'm so glad you came, waaah!" Olivia sobbed.

Ethan raised his eyebrows and gently pushed her away to meet her tearful but joyful eyes. "Babe, these people are trying to assault me.” She pleaded. “Please, tell them I’m not a whore. Tell them I’m your wife.”

Under Ethan Williams’ careful protection for over a year, she had never faced the dangers of the outside world. This time, it had truly frightened her. She clung to his clothes, her eyes full of trust and relief.

Meanwhile, Mr. Willow and his female companion had rushed to the scene. They wanted to catch up with the woman they were trying to take advantage of but when he saw her in the arms of no other than Ethan Williams, one of the most prominent businessmen in town, he trembled in fear.

"Sir... President Williams! I'm sorry! I didn't know she was your person. I scared her..."

"This is all just a misunderstanding!”

Olivia turned, seeing Ethan’s assistant emerge from the black car and pushing his glasses farther up his nose. After sharing one look with his boss, Ken Einstein spoke directly to Mr. Willow:

“President Williams doesn't need your apology tonight. It's fine," he said, stepping forward.

Olivia opened her mouth but before she could say a word, Ken Einstein had pulled her away from Ethan’s side by her shoulder.

"And I apologize to you, Miss Hansley. Take care," said Ethan, patting his crumpled clothes before walking away with indifference and aloofness.

His assistant followed closely behind him as they quickly made their way back to the car. Olivia stood there, frozen, unable to believe that he would just leave her like this.

"So… President Williams has nothing to do with you after all?!" Mr. Willow felt embarrassed for his mistake and grabbed Olivia’s arm even harder.

He sneered, "You deceitful woman, pretending to have powerful connections. I'll make sure to kill you tonight!" He dragged her towards the white car with such force that she was powerless to resist.

"Let me go! Don't touch me!" Olivia struggled desperately, but her efforts were in vain. As she was about to be forced into the white van, she turned to stare at Ethan’s retreating figure, tears blurring her vision. Her heart grew colder with each passing moment.

So cruel.

Are you really going to let me go through this after being married for over a year? Will you really stand by and watch me suffer like this?

Olivia’s consciousness was slipping away as the strength around her body was withdrawn. Just as she was about to black out, a pair of strong hands stopped Mr. Willow’s movements and a strange man held her in his arms. She took glimpses of a black shirt and delicate cuffs before everything went completely dark.

When she finally woke up, she found herself in a hospital bed. Checking her clothes, she sighed in relief that they seemed fine. She was still dressed and well.

A nurse walked in and scolded her for not taking care of her body properly. Olivia covered her lower abdomen and was grateful that her baby seemed okay.

But as she thought about her situation, her heart felt heavy. Her love story with Ethan was nothing but a joke, and her child would never experience normal parental love.

She asked the nurse, "Excuse me, where is the kind person who brought me here? I would like to thank him personally."

The nurse replied, "His full name is Mr. Hunter Steel. He paid for your medicine and left."

Olivia was surprised. She’d heard that name before. Hunter Steel is the president of a renowned entertainment company and was considered to be Ethan’s rival.

She asked the nurse, "How much is my medical bill?"

The nurse reported the amount, and Olivia silently made a mental note to return the favor to Hunter.

The nurse then asked, "What's your husband's phone number? Should we call him to pick you up?"

Olivia shook her head, her black hair waving around her face. "No need. He wouldn't come anyway."

The nurse looked puzzled. "But your husband should care about you. Why wouldn't he come to pick you up?"

Olivia replied with a bitter smile, "Our relationship is nothing but a joke. He wouldn't care."

Olivia quickly recovered and was sent to the pharmacy within the hospital to collect her medicine.

As she left, a figure emerged from the shadows, watching her closely and narrowing their eyes. The latter had been following her for a while but still didn’t understand what Olivia was doing in the hospital: It was no other than Britney, Ethan’s sister.

Confused, she wondered, "What in the world is Olivia doing here? Could it be that she’s terminally ill?”

She found a nurse and asked, "What happened to that woman just now?"

The nurse hesitated to share the patient's private information, but seeing it was Britney Williams, she had no other choice but to speak, "She was sent by Mr. Steel. S-she’s five weeks pregnant and just received anti-fetal pills."

Britney's expression suddenly changed. "This slut is actually pregnant!" she thought to herself.

After gathering her emotions, she put on a fake smile and asked again "Thank you for telling me, sweetie…You can go now.”

The nurse made a strange grimace that proved she felt guilty before rushing away. As soon as she was gone, a deep scowl appeared on Britney’s face. She went to a more discrete part of the hospital, clutching her phone in her hand.

Britney believed that only her best friend Selena was worthy of her brother. She refused to allow a wild species that grew up in the countryside like Olivia Hansley, to cheat her way to the position that belonged to Selena.

Quickly, she dialed her friend’s number and the latter picked up after two ringtones: "Hey Sel’, are you busy?"

Selena’s voice was gentle and beautiful, making people feel intoxicated. It was obvious that she came from old money: "What's wrong, Britney dear?”

"Selena, since you're back from your trip now, I think we should meet and have a little bit of a girl talk…What do you think?”

"Okay sure, I’d love that," Selena replied with a smile. “I’ll tell you when I have a little bit of free time.”

"Okay…By the way, Sel, I’m at the hospital right now and…I saw my sister-in-law from hell. The nurse said she is five weeks pregnant." Britney revealed.

Selena’s voice suddenly lost its gentleness, as she had a relationship with Ethan for ten years, but had only been abroad for more than a year, and somehow, he’d gotten married in between. She didn't care about it at first, but now she heard the woman was pregnant with his child.

Feeling her heart sink inch by inch, she asked, "Britney, what are we going to do about this?”
