Chapter 6 Jojo the cat

“Britney, I know you don't like me, so I won't trust your words. Instead, I will go and talk to Ethan directly. I believe he would not be so heartless.”

Olivia had a suddenly a little smirk on her face. She reached out and straightened Britney’s collar.

"You don't have to sow discord. If he really wants to make a child that he’ll offer to Lina Ortega, there are plenty of women out there who’d do it for a reasonable price. But, I’m not one of those women. Now that I am pregnant with Ethan’s child, I will work together with him to raise this child well. I won’t be a surrogate mother."

Britney’s face turned red with anger, and she pushed away Olivia’s hand and sneered, "Fine, do as you please. But you will regret this one day!"

With that, Britney stormed out of the villa.

Olivia suppressed her emotions and tried to calm down. She wished she felt as confident as she pretended to be but her words were only meant to provoke Britney. The truth was that she was terrified of what the future held.

As she walked to the balcony, Olivia came face to face with Ethan. At that moment, he was leaning against the railing, cigarette in his mouth and lighter in hand. Upon hearing Olivia’s footsteps, he raised his head, his already cold and dignified face appearing even more distant in the light.

The words that Olivia had intended to say suddenly stuck in her throat. She took a half step back and glanced down before timidly asking, "Could you please stop smoking?"

Ethan pocketed his lighter, but continued to hold the cigarette in his mouth, his demeanor slightly softening. For a moment, Olivia thought that the kind husband she knew before had returned.

"Get some rest," he said before turning to leave.

As he walked away, Olivia spoke up. "I'm going to get an abortion."

Ethan stopped in his tracks, but didn't look back.

"I understand that you want a divorce now that the person you love is back. Britney told me that having a child could complicate things, so if we're going to break up, let's do it cleanly."

Ethan finally turned his head, his deep gaze scrutinizing her, trying to see through her intentions.

"Mrs. Hansley, if I'm not mistaken, you were the one who said you wanted to keep the child downstairs…Are you sure you don’t want anything to save our relationship?" His voice was as smooth as ever, but with a hint of eerie coldness.

Olivia was taken aback, stuttering out a response. Before she could finish, Ethan closed in on her, pulling her into his embrace and pressing her against his chest. As she looked up at him, she caught a whiff of his familiar fragrance.

Olivia so wanted to bury herself deeper in his arms, to kiss his lips. But Ethan expressed nothing but coldness and sharpness, no warmth or ambiguity in his demeanor.

"Mrs. Hansley, it's not for anyone but me to decide whether to have my child or not. Do you understand?"

Olivia didn’t know what to say. What place did she hold in Ethan’s heart? When he was happy, he would lift her up, but when he was tired, he would ignore her, even if she were crushed into the dirt.

Now, he was forcing her to have a child against her will. Was he really thinking about giving the baby to Lina Ortega, as Britney had said? It was absurd and outrageous.

She couldn't make sense of it. The man pressed his finger against her lips, causing a slight tingle. He whispered in her ear, his voice gentle yet warning,

"Just be obedient, my little doll. Don't say anything I don't like to hear."

It sounded so soft, but it was more like a warning. Olivia’s heart was sinking lower and lower.

Time went by slowly as she sat on the sofa later, simmering with anger. The combination of her pregnancy and exhaustion made her doze off quickly.

Suddenly, she felt someone picking her up and holding her in a familiar embrace, but it jolted her awake. She subconsciously clutched Ethan’s shoulder, but he seemed not to notice, carrying her steadily up the stairs and into the master bedroom, where he gently placed her on the bed

Olivia froze and dared not move as they stared into each other’s eyes. Ethan looked down at her disdainfully and sneered, "Don't tell me you're expecting me to help you undress and bathe? I didn't know that you would become so high and mighty after getting pregnant."

Olivia blushed deeply, grabbed her pajamas from the closet and fled into the bathroom. When she came out, Ethan was gone. She lay on the huge bed, her sleepiness vanished, and she stared wide-eyed at the ceiling, until she heard a faint sound.

"Meow..."

A soft meowing sound reached her ears, and Olivia stiffened. Her blood seemed to freeze as she turned her head to look behind the curtain where the sound came from. She was terrified of cats, and this one had different colored pupils and belonged to Ethan.

It was a French English short with a striking appearance, one dark green eye, and the other gray-blue, reminiscent of a starry sea, with elegance and dignity in its every movement, just like Ethan himself. In other words, any woman would be captivated by it.

Olivia trembled, her face turning pale. As if sensing her fear, the cat approached her step by step.

"Aww, cute kitty, stay away from me," Olivia whined.

The cat jumped onto the bed and drew closer to her.

Olivia’s breathing slowed down as she felt her body becoming cold and stiff. She started feeling a faint pain in her lower abdomen again, causing her to hyperventilate.

Suddenly, she saw a big hand reaching for the cat and pulling it away from her. "Jojo, I said you are not allowed to go to the second floor," Ethan scolded.

"Meow~" the cat responded.

Olivia slowly resumed her breathing and felt her body warming up. She wiped the sweat off her forehead and turned to Ethan. "Thank you for saving me. I was so scared."

He handed her a glass of water and sat on the edge of the bed. As soon as he touched her, he sensed something was wrong. She was tense, her teeth biting her lips tightly, and her slender arms covering her lower abdomen.

"Olivia, are you okay?" he asked, concerned.

She shook her head. "No, I'm not. I feel pain in my lower abdomen."

Ethan quickly put down the water cup, lifted the quilt, picked up Olivia and walked out quickly.

The housekeeper, seeing his boss carrying Olivia out, asked, "Sir, is the lady okay?"

"Get the car ready," Ethan ordered. "We're going to the hospital."

The driver prepared the car and waited for them. Ethan quickly said, "Drive to the hospital."

Olivia sighed. Here was another problem she'd need to deal with...
