Chapter 7 Be careful with me

Olivia’s hands clenched the sheets tightly as she lay in the hospital bed.

Her adoptive parents were not present, and she had no biological parents. Ethan, her husband, had never announced their marriage in the year they had been together, and now they were getting divorced. He certainly wouldn't want to disclose their marriage to anyone now.

As she was about to pick up her medical certificate, Ethan cut her off and signed it himself, claiming he was her husband.

The nurse was surprised by this revelation and took back the certificate. The two didn’t seem like a loving married couple at all.

After the formalities were complete, only Olivia and Ethan were left in the room. Ethan’s gaze was sharp as he spoke to her about being scared by a cat. If it wasn’t for that, she wouldn’t have felt sick the way she did.

Olivia fell silent, and in a softer tone, he suggested for her to rest. Later, Olivia was awoken by nothing other than Britney’s accusations that she had purposely scared herself by being around cats, just to be play the victim.

Olivia felt terribly angry at the sound of that. Ethan knew she was genuinely scared of cats and for that reason, Jojo was never allowed on the second floor. That was something she thought to be a sign of affection from her husband.

But despite everything that Ethan had done to show his love for her in the year since their marriage, she realized now that he didn't actually love her. He even kept his ex-girlfriend's cat in their home, which was a cruel and painful reminder of his true feelings.

Olivia felt dumb to have never noticed the red flags.

"Yo, are you awake?" Britney asked as she noticed her opening her eyes with tears in them.

Olivia was taken aback by her harsh words and couldn't help but retort, "You’ve always been a bitch, Britney. But I’m warning you…Don’t push me to my limits or you don’t know what’s going to happen to you.”

Britney let out a dry laugh and she couldn't believe that Olivia dared to talk back to her. However, she stood her ground and challenged Olivia by asking, "How are you going to stop me?"

She was about to respond when something stopped her. Britney looked up as a man in a white coat walked in. He’d overheard their conversation and spoke in a gentle tone:

"Britney, come on…Don't say dirty words.”

The man was Anthony, the vice-president of the clinic and one of Britney’s close friends. The both of them exchanged a knowing glance since they shared the same downgrading sentiments for Olivia.

He said, "Miss Hansley, Mr. Williams ordered me to come and handle the discharge procedures for you."

Britney sighed and asked, "Where is my brother anyway?"

Anthony replied, "I’m afraid he had to go to the company. You know what it’s like to be a businessman. He has no time to waste but there’s nothing to worry about. I’ll take good care of Olivia here.”

Anthony offered a smile and then went through the hospitalization procedures for Olivia. When they finally walked out of the hospital, Britney refused to give up and grabbed Olivia by the arm.

“Hey, I warn you not to be a demon again! If you dare to target my friend Selena, my brother and I will not let you go!"

“Britney, stop.” Anthony said disapprovingly. “Leave the girl alone.”

Ignoring him, Olivia threw away Britney’s hand and stood in front of her with a cold face. "What are you going to do if I choose to fuck up your friend’s life, huh?” she asked.

"You...!" Britney’s eyes widened, in cold fury.

Olivia sneered, "The best way for you to get rid of me is to convince your brother to go along with the divorce procedure. But something tells me that’s not about to happen anytime soon. Don’t you agree?”

Britney retorted, "How pompous of you! Do you know what you are, Olivia?”

“What am I?”

“Not a wife, I can guarantee that. You’re the housekeeper, someone to make food and look pretty on his arm. Occasionally, like right now, you take the role of a baby machine but you can be replaced in a snap of my fingers. Don’t underestimate me. I can definitely convince my brother to get rid of you and start a healthy relationship with my friend Selena.”

“If you were so capable, then Ethan wouldn’t have married me in the first place, Britney.”

Britney’s shoulders were trembling in rage. Never had she felt more disrespected. She raised her hand to slap Olivia across the face but the latter quickly countered:

"Are you sure you want to do this? Should a lady of your grade slap her sister-in-law in public out of annoyance and anger? Don't forget your identity as the Sweetheart of the Williams family! Have you thought about the consequences of your actions?"

Britney’s face turned red as she took her hand to strike Olivia’s face, but the latter intercepted her hand. "I can be arrogant until I give birth to my baby! I’m the one with all the power now.”

Britney became even more enraged, “Olivia! How long do you think you can be arrogant? That child won’t be in your belly forever.”

Anthony decided to intervene and stop the two women.

"Whatever. I can be arrogant until I give birth. That’s nine months of hell for you.”

"You...!" Britney was so angry that she almost spat blood out of her mouth.

Anthony forcibly dragged her away. "Britney, calm down. She is carrying Ethan’s child in her belly, and after he is born, the child will call you auntie, so you have to take into account your brother’s feelings."

"The child has just been conceived, and she dares to be so arrogant. If you really want it to see the light of day, you better be careful with me, Olivia.

"Britney!" Anthony frowned, "What do you mean by that?”

Britney let out a low roar, threw away Anthony’s hand, and stormed out. The young man was already starting to get a headache. Britney was in her twenties and still acted like a spoiled, little brat. She had been raised by her grandmother and was close to Ethan. She had grown accustomed to getting away with anything in the Williams family, and she didn't listen to anyone’s opinion. This time, he hoped she wouldn't cause any trouble.
