Chapter 6 The Mysterious Isabella

Since Isabella had always been taught to be polite, even though she was a bit freaked out by Elara's words, she still obediently walked over to the water dispenser, poured a cup of hot water, and carefully brought it to Elara.

"Here you go, Elara," Isabella said softly.

Elara took the cup with a barely-there cold smile. She pretended to lose her grip, and the scalding hot water spilled all over Isabella's hand.

Pain shot through her hand, and tears welled up in Isabella's eyes, but she sensibly held back her sobs, gently rubbing the burned area and pouting in grievance.

Aurora, feeling heartbroken, quickly rinsed Isabella's swollen hand with cold water, her voice full of pain and reproach, "You silly girl! Why did you even listen to her? Look at your hand!"

Elara stood by with her arms crossed, watching the scene with a malicious smile. "Oh dear, did I scald you? I thought you were so tough. Can't even handle a little hot water?"

"You!" Aurora's whole body was trembling, and she was so angry that she couldn't even speak, just pointing at Elara.

"What? Am I wrong?" Elara raised her chin, her eyes sweeping disdainfully over Isabella and Aurora. "Look at you two – a nobody and an old servant. You should be grateful I even acknowledge your existence. Be careful, or I'll make sure the whole world knows what a pair of vipers you are."

"You wouldn't dare!" Aurora's eyes widened.

"Aurora," Isabella said quickly, worried that Aurora might get too upset. Her little face turned quite red. "Elara, how can you talk like that? It's too much."

"Too much? I can be even worse." As Elara said this, she suddenly reached out and forcefully shoved Isabella.

Caught off guard, Isabella stumbled and was about to hit the ground.

"Isabella!" Aurora exclaimed, trying to catch her, but due to her age and limited mobility, she couldn't make it in time.

At that moment, a strong hand caught Isabella steadily and pulled her into a firm embrace.

"What gave you the right to lay a hand on her?" A cold voice sounded, filled with chilling anger.

Isabella looked up and saw a familiar face. The chiseled features and deep eyes now radiated a cold, intimidating aura.

It was Alexander.

He was back.

Isabella's nose tingled, and she couldn't hold back her tears any longer.

"Alexander," Isabella choked, burying her head in Alexander's chest, seeking comfort.

Looking at Isabella in his arms and feeling her trembling body, Alexander felt his heart ache and was quite heartbroken.

He gently patted Isabella's back, softly comforting her, "Don't be afraid, I'm back."

His words made Isabella feel incredibly secure, as if she had found a pillar of support, and all her grievances and fears vanished.

Elara was startled by Alexander's sudden appearance but quickly regained her composure.

After adjusting her clothes, Elara put on a pitiful expression and said, "Alexander, you're finally back. You won't believe what they've put me through." As she spoke, she pointed at Isabella and Aurora, her tone full of accusation, "Aurora and Isabella ganged up to bully me, saying I'm an outsider and not letting me in."

"Alexander, I'm your fiancée. How can they treat me like this?" Elara's eyes welled up with tears, ready to spill any second.

Hearing Elara's words, Isabella's face went pale. She instinctively clutched Alexander's sleeve, her eyes filled with fear and helplessness.

Alexander glanced at Isabella, her small hand gripping his sleeve like it was her last lifeline. Her eyes looked like those of an abandoned puppy, making him want to protect her.

He gently patted Isabella's hand, signaling her to relax, then turned to Elara, his gaze turning icy.

"Fiancée?" Alexander sneered, his tone dripping with mockery. "When did I ever acknowledge you as my fiancée?"

Elara's expression stiffened. She hadn't expected Alexander to humiliate her in front of Isabella and Aurora. She bit her lip, feeling aggrieved. "Alexander, how can you say that? Our engagement was arranged by our elders since we were kids."

Alexander seemed to find this hilarious and couldn't help but give a satirical smile. "I, Alexander, have always made my own decisions in life. No one else gets to decide for me."

Elara's face turned ugly. She hadn't expected Alexander to say such things.

She took a deep breath, trying to suppress her anger, and continued, "Alexander, I'm doing this for your own good."

"For my own good?" Alexander raised an eyebrow, signaling her to continue.

Elara pointed at Isabella and Aurora, her tone full of disdain and contempt. "Look at them, Alexander. This one is ancient, clinging to a past that's long gone. And this one? She can't even pour a glass of water without hurting herself. They're nothing but a burden. Send them away. I'll take care of you."Alexander, send them away. I'll stay and take care of you, okay?"

But Alexander dodged her without hesitation. "Take care of me?" He sneered, then directly grabbed Elara's wrist and forcefully threw her out the door.

Elara let out a scream and fell to the ground in a mess. She looked at Alexander in disbelief, her eyes full of shock and anger. "Alexander, are you crazy? You're actually doing this to me for these two bitches?"

Alexander coldly said, "Close the door."

Aurora glanced at Elara, who was screaming on the ground, then at Alexander's expressionless face. She finally chose to follow Alexander's order and slowly closed the door.

With a loud thud, the heavy door shut, cutting off Elara's hopeful gaze.

"Alexander, how dare you treat me like this? Are you crazy?" Elara pounded on the door in disbelief, her sharp voice piercing the eardrums. "You're kicking me out for them?"

She couldn't believe that Alexander would be so ruthless for Isabella, who he had just met.

"Let me tell you, I am the fiancée your parents chose for you. If you choose her over me, you can forget about inheriting the Brown family fortune!" Elara screamed hysterically, trying to use family pressure to force Alexander.
