Ch 7: Attack

The air was thick with tension as Emrys and the squad moved away from the jet. The sky overhead was dark and filled with clouds that seemed ready to burst with rain at any moment. The ground beneath them was hard and uneven. There were also giant cracks that seemed like they had been torn apart by something powerful. The twisted trees below looked unnatural, as if they had been burned but somehow survived. The atmosphere felt wrong and dangerous.

This was actually a scene left behind by a war a few hundred years ago, and this place has yet to recover.

"Everyone, stay on high alert. We are about to enter our enemies' territory," Jerek spoke while his eyes scanned the horizon. Korin, with his large frame and serious expression, kept his hands close to the ground. He was ready to use his Geokinesis ability at any moment. Lira was also focused, as her sharp eyes moved from one shadow to another, ready to unleash her deadly rays. Now that they were very close to the enemy's territory, Rian had also activated some of his small devices.

Emrys immediately felt the weight of the mission on his shoulders as he looked at everyone's serious face. He took a deep breath and focused.

The jet landed slowly on the ground as its engines hummed softly. As the door opened, Jerek was the first to step out, followed by the rest of the squad. The air outside was heavy and cold, and the sky was dark with thick clouds.

Jerek turned to Emrys and gave him a simple nod. It was a small gesture and Emrys immediately understood what Jerek wanted him to do. Without waiting, Emrys focused all his attention and activated his Echo Sense. He closed his eyes for a moment and started feeling the vibrations in the air and the ground. Everything around him became clearer as his ability allowed him to sense even the smallest movement within the range of thirty meters.

Although this range was very small, Emrys believed he could gradually make it bigger.

Of course, after thirty meters, he could still sense vibrations and movements, but not as clearly as within this range.

The squad began moving forward slowly. Every step they took was carefully taken. The area they were somewhat strange. The trees were tall but twisted, and their branches were reaching out like claws. The ground was cracked and dry with patches of sharp rocks scattered around.

As they walked deeper into the area, Emrys's senses picked up something unusual. His heart skipped a beat as he realized what was happening. His heart tensed but he didn't immediately inform Jerek. He wanted to first know where this kind of sensation was coming from, and who the enemies they were going to face.

Although he had come for the mission, he still had no idea about the subject of the mission. Jerek had not told him, and he didn't ask.

As the saying goes, all a soldier needs to do is follow orders. He was also following orders by not asking anything about the mission. If Jerek felt like it, he would surely tell him. He doesn't know why Jerek had not told him about the mission, but it is most likely related to his ability.

As they kept walking, Emrys's heart was racing rapidly. But he tried to stay calm. His Echo Sense was picking up movements far ahead. There was something out there, hidden in the darkness. It wasn't just the quiet that made him nervous; it was the subtle, unnatural shaking beneath the ground. Something large was moving, and it was definitely something dangerous.

Suddenly, he felt that faint tremor in the earth again. His eyes widened and he turned to Jerek quickly before speaking in a trembling voice. "There's something big ahead of us. It is not far, and it is moving fast, very fast."

Jerek narrowed his eyes narrowed, and stopped. Then he turned to the rest of the squad and said in a calm but serious voice, "Get ready, everyone. Our enemies are coming for us!"

Korin immediately placed his hand on the ground and confirmed what Emrys had sensed. His expression immediately turned grim, and he prepared to use his ability to manipulate Earth's element anytime.

Lira and Rian also held on their electromagnetic rifles. Emrys was no different. He was given an electromagnetic rifle as well to use in emergency situations.

"Straight ahead," Emrys immediately pointed toward the dark twisted trees in the distance and shouted suddenly.

It was also at this moment that the ground began to shake violently and the sound of something large moving through the earth grew louder. Now, no one needed to rely on Emrys, because they could already hear this gradually becoming louder noise.

The squad stopped in their tracks and braced themselves for whatever was coming.

"BOOM!"

Moments later, the ground ahead of them exploded with a loud boom. Dust and rocks flew everywhere as a massive creature burst out of the earth. It was a Ravager. Its long scaly body was glowing faintly in the dark, and its red eyes burned with hatred as it looked at the squad of five.

"There it is!" Jerek shouted.

"Prepare for battle!"

"Attack!"

Korin stepped forward and slammed his hands into the ground. Large rocks and spikes of earth shot up, trying to trap the creature, but the Ravager was too fast. It smashed through the rocks with its tail and then roared loudly.

Lira also acted quickly and fired a bright ray of energy from her eyes, hitting the creature on its side, but it only seemed to make it angrier. The Ravager lunged toward the team as its sharp claws sliced through the air.

"Swoosh!" "Swoosh!"

While firing destructive beams of rays from her eyes, Lira also fired the electromagnetic rifle. Rian was the same. When it comes to machinery, no one could rival him. He also fired the electromagnetic rifles and then waved his hand, actually manipulating the wind to change the trajectory of energy bullets.

However, the ravager was simply too fast. Although some attacks struck its body, it dodged the majority of them while closing in on the group.

"Emrys, retreat. Keep your distance and use your Echo Sense! Let us know if there's more coming!"

Jerek commanded and moved forward, lunging ahead of everyone to meet the ravager head-on.

Emrys nodded and retreated hurriedly. He knew he was too weak to participate in this kind of battle. While retreating, he concentrated as his Echo Sense expanded further. He started feeling the vibrations in the ground.

Suddenly, Emrys felt another tremor. His eyes shot open in panic as he shouted. "Another one is coming. It is coming from behind us!"
