Chapter 2 Emily

David's face was totally blank as he handed the divorce papers to Sophia.

Sophia was still busy with kitchen stuff, so he waited for her to turn off the stove, take off her apron, and even handed her a kitchen towel.

She wiped her hands, then took the papers and started reading them line by line.

She silently counted the zeros.

Four years, four hundred million dollars.

The Jones Family was as loaded and generous as ever.

But Sophia didn't care much about the money; she cared about the man in front of her. So, she decided to give it one last shot—

"Do we really have to get divorced?" Sophia closed the agreement and looked up at David. The man she had loved for four years was always so serious, restrained, and distant.

"Yes," David replied bluntly.

Sophia's heart felt like it was being pricked by countless tiny needles. Now, David didn't even want to say another word to her. It seemed like this relationship had always been a burden to him, and now that the burden was lifted, he couldn't even be bothered to pretend.

Since David was so straightforward, Sophia couldn't drag it out either.

After all, she wasn't losing out. Four years and four hundred million dollars—who could earn such a high salary?

"Fine, let's get divorced then," Sophia said, pretending to be relaxed as she signed her name.

But as she finished the last stroke, her pen paused for a moment, as if as long as her name wasn't fully written, their marriage wouldn't be over.

Although Sophia intentionally slowed down, to David, her attitude seemed very carefree.

Did she really want a divorce that much? David felt inexplicably annoyed. "I'll notify you of the registration time. If possible, you'd better move out tonight."

Ignoring his annoyance, David coldly finished speaking and turned to leave the villa. Clearly, he wasn't here to discuss the divorce with Sophia, just to inform her.

That night, Sophia left the villa.

However, she didn't leave on her own; she was driven out by the servants, and even her luggage was thrown out. The servants, used to bullying, didn't surprise Sophia much.

Sophia squatted on the ground alone, picking up her scattered clothes, and sorting them out. She kept the ones she liked and threw away all the clothes she had bought to please David.

What would have been very embarrassing for others seemed relaxed to Sophia.

But someone just had to ruin the moment.

The screeching sound of brakes pierced the night sky, and a tall, maturely dressed woman got out of the car.

Her burgundy hair cascaded down in loose waves, giving her a lazy and rebellious look. Her face was adorned with a bright smile, her slender eyebrows painted in deep purple, and her brown eyes, shaded by dark eyeshadow and long lashes, sparkled with shrewdness.

The servants, who had been mocking Sophia, now swarmed over like dogs finding their master, eagerly attending to the woman.

"Ms. Emily Smith, you're finally here. How was your journey?"

"Be careful; my things are very expensive. You can't afford the compensation," Emily said, arrogantly lifting her chin.

Sophia felt her body stiffen, instantly understanding.

No wonder David wanted her to move out tonight; someone was eager to move in.

Sophia wished she could go back in time and slap her reluctant self.

A cheating man must be kicked to the curb!

This was Sophia's principle.

Emily naturally saw Sophia picking up clothes. She walked over, stepping on the clothes, and sneered, "You're Sophia? Haven't left yet? David told you to leave, and you're still dawdling around. How shameless!"

Sophia ignored her provocation and continued packing her scattered luggage.

"Hey, are you deaf? Can't you hear me talking to you?"

Sophia finally looked up, glanced around, and then pretended to be puzzled, muttering to herself, "I thought I heard a dog barking. Where did it go?"

"How dare you call me a dog!"

"Oh, did I call you a dog? No, I just described the situation." With that, she dragged her suitcase and tilted her head towards Emily, who was blocking her way. "Excuse me, smart dogs don't block the way."

"You!" Emily stomped her foot in anger, her face turning ugly.

Wasn't Sophia supposed to be notoriously weak? Why were the rumors untrue?
