Chapter 3 The Past

The servants didn't hold any grudges and gathered around Emily, showering her with compliments. Just a few kind words were enough to make Emily happy. In her good mood, she couldn't care less about Sophia, who wasn't a threat to her, and followed the servants into the villa.

The cold wind, sharp as a blade, whipped through the night, rustling the leaves and howling. Sophia, in her thin clothes, felt her hands and feet go numb from the cold.

But her heart was even colder.

Right then, Sophia truly felt the sting of being abandoned. She had been the mistress of this villa for four years, and now, right after the divorce, she was replaced.

"Goodbye, Jones villa!" Taking a deep breath, Sophia walked away without looking back.

That night, she rented a one-bedroom apartment downtown. It was small, but it was enough for her. After living in an empty villa for four years, she didn't want to be in such a lonely place anymore.

Sophia felt an immediate sense of relief. She was free from pointless waiting and the burden of being "Mrs. Sophia Jones."

Freedom felt so sweet.

Feeling newly liberated, Sophia pulled out her phone and unblocked a noisy contact, then dialed the number.

As soon as the call connected, Sophia felt a twinge of regret, realizing the incoming non-stop chatter.

"Sophia, it's been four years, and you finally remembered me!

"I heard you're getting a divorce, congrats! You should've ditched that jerk David ages ago!

"While you were stuck with the Jones Family, your legend was all over the Underground. If those people knew you were the big shot they've been looking for all these years, they'd be floored!

"Are you planning something big this time? I..."

"Shut up!" Sophia's head throbbed from the noise.

Joseph Miller was supposed to be a rebellious noble in Harmony City, but in front of Sophia, he was just a noisy underling. He hadn't been able to reach Sophia for four years, and now that she called, he was beyond excited.

But his excitement didn't faze Sophia. She cut him off, "I promised Grandpa I wouldn't get back into the circle. If you respect me, keep this secret."

Sophia had an exciting past, but she didn't want to go back to it now.

She got straight to the point, "The reason I'm calling is to ask you to look into something for me..."

After setting up her plans, Sophia got a text from David.

Her heart skipped a beat.

[9 AM tomorrow, at the divorce office.]

The message was so blunt, like a boss giving an order, and Sophia instantly felt indifferent. Yeah, she shouldn't have fallen in love with him.

[Got it.] Sophia replied just as curtly.

The next day.

Morning sunlight streamed through the glass doors of the divorce office, lighting up the floor. Sophia stood at the entrance early, dressed in a simple yet elegant red dress, with flawless makeup, ready for her new life.

But she felt a bit dizzy, probably from catching a cold last night and having a slight fever.

Still, it didn't affect the important matters.

A black Rolls-Royce pulled up in front of Sophia, and David slowly got out. Tall and imposing, with a stern face, his black suit made him look even more unapproachable.

Seeing Sophia, David felt a mix of amazement and confusion. But he didn't show it, just frowned slightly and walked coldly into the hall.

"So eager?" David's voice was low, with a hint of dissatisfaction.

Sophia turned around, a bit surprised.

Was David mocking her? This CEO could mock people? She never knew that before.

But seeing David's brisk strides, he seemed the most eager!
