Chapter 4

The sunlight streamed through the window, hitting her eyes and making them sting a bit.

She instinctively reached out to shield her eyes. 'How did I end up in a hotel?' Amelia wondered.

There was a faint noise outside the door, and memories from last night came rushing back. She remembered everything.

Last night, Alexander got into a fight and ended up in police custody because of his new girlfriend. The worst part? They even got a room together.

Amelia walked alone in the heavy rain for a long time and overheard their flirting.

She was furious, but what could she do now that it had already happened?

After freshening up, Amelia walked out of the room. She had to thank Henry for taking her in last night. If it weren't for him, she'd probably still be sitting in the hotel lobby.

Henry was already up, reading a book. He looked up when he heard Amelia. "You're awake? I didn't know what you usually have for breakfast, so I ordered a bit of everything. Come and eat."

He even prepared breakfast for her? Looking over, Amelia felt overwhelmed. The small table was packed with various foods. Even if she took just one bite of each, it would be enough to stuff her.

Thinking about how she had treated him before, she felt deeply guilty that he was still so considerate. She sat down and casually picked up a piece of toast. As soon as she swallowed it, her eyes lit up. "This is so good! Is this from that shop in the south of the city?"

Henry nodded nonchalantly and pushed the food closer to her.

When she was a kid, Amelia's favorite restaurant was this one. The food was excellent, and the owners were kind. As a result, there was always a long line, and it took over half an hour to get in.

She hadn't eaten the food there for a long time, and tasting the familiar flavors again made her very happy.

Originally a bit reserved, Amelia felt much better after finishing the toast. She put down her knife and fork with a smile. "Thanks for taking me in last night and for buying me breakfast. I'll treat you to a meal sometime!" She said it out of courtesy, not because she minded paying for a meal.

Their relationship was awkward, especially since Amelia had bullied him when they were kids. So she was prepared for him to refuse.

"Okay." To her surprise, Henry agreed readily, catching her off guard.

Since he agreed, Amelia quickly took out her phone. "We don't have each other's contact info. It would be inconvenient to get in touch!"

After adding each other on Facebook, Amelia noticed his ID was just a question mark. It suited his calm and composed nature.

After adding him, the room fell silent again. Just as Amelia was about to say something to break the ice, her phone suddenly vibrated.

It was Alexander. "Amelia, where did you stay last night? I'm coming to find you!"

Amelia's fingers trembled. What should she say? That she stayed with his half-brother last night? That would probably start a world war.

Even though they were no longer kids and Alexander was not constantly making things difficult for his brother, there was still a subtle hostility between them, especially since Amelia was so close to him. If he found out she secretly contacted Henry...

"I just woke up. I'll be back soon, no need to come find me," Amelia said, her voice a bit shaky.

But Alexander didn't notice, or maybe he didn't think Amelia would lie to him. "That's good. You didn't tell me where you were last night. I thought you were lying about getting a room. I went to your school early this morning, and your roommate said you weren't there."

Amelia sneered. In this cold weather, if she had stayed outside all night, he would see her corpse today. If Alexander really cared, he wouldn't have let her go back alone last night.

She didn't say anything, and Alexander continued talking, "By the way, don't tell my family about last night, or they'll give me a hard time! Got it?"

Amelia wanted to say she understood, but Henry was watching her. She had already told him. But his relationship with the Anderson Family wasn't great, so he probably wouldn't say anything.

At that moment, Henry looked up, and their eyes met. Amelia quickly looked down, too embarrassed to meet his gaze. It was strange. She hadn't done anything wrong, so why did she feel so guilty?

Amelia said, "I got it. Don't worry."

Alexander continued, "I have to go to the police station to handle some leftover issues today. Once I'm done, I'll treat you to a meal!" Alexander, as usual, planned to make it up to Amelia with a meal.

Amelia reluctantly agreed, and the call ended. Looking out the window, Amelia was confused.

She was about to graduate, and her parents kept hinting that she should get engaged to Alexander soon.

She had been looking forward to it, as she had liked him since she was a child. She was willing to wait as long as she could be with him.

Just when she thought Alexander would finally confess his feelings, he just confessed that he was dating someone else.

This was something Amelia had never expected. She had always seen him as her future husband.

She felt very upset, and the emotions she had tried to forget resurfaced.

She sniffled, determined not to cry in front of Henry. That would be too embarrassing.

Henry was right. No matter what happened, she needed to talk to her parents.

There was another knock on the door. As she was about to get up, Henry beat her to it.

He handed her a luxury bag. "Although the rain has stopped, it's still very cold outside. Your clothes are too thin. Wear this before you go."

It was a brand-new plush coat. Just by touching it, she could tell it was expensive and just her size.

Her heart felt a pang of emotion. "Thank you."

Then she felt something was off and quickly added, "How much was it? I'll transfer the money to you now. You've already helped me so much."

She hurriedly took out her phone, but Henry firmly pressed it down, "No need to be so polite. Isn't your birthday coming up? I haven't given you a birthday gift in recent years. Consider this your gift."

Amelia was stunned. 'How does he know my birthday?'
