Chapter 2 Did He Make Love to Her

The next day was the weekend, and James's parents came back with groceries around ten in the morning. They hadn't been home for a few days, and James's mom, Isabella Taylor, had been hinting that I should get closer to James.

"Emily, have you had breakfast?" Isabella asked, pushing James's dad, Aiden Smith, into the kitchen. She took my hand affectionately and led me to my room.

Isabella glanced around my room and said, "I remember when you were little, you needed James to tell you stories to fall asleep. Hasn't he been around these past few days? I heard you had a fall. Don't push yourself to walk. I'll bring your meal to your room later."

I avoided her gaze. I knew she was happy I was with James, and now that I wanted to break up, she'd be really disappointed.

"No matter how busy he is, he should be home by ten at night! Will he still be like this after you two get married?" Isabella scolded James, and I just gave a bitter smile.

He wouldn't even sleep with me. Even if we got married, he might not come home to be with me after work.

"Emily, don't be sad. I'll call him and talk to him later!" Isabella said, gently patting my hand before getting up to make the call.

Not only that, but she also locked James's room door.

"If James can't make you feel better, I won't let him sleep in his room!" Isabella promised me.

I knew she was trying to bring us closer.

"Your foot is injured, and the first few days are crucial. He should be taking care of you! I think he should stay here at night so he can help you if you need to go to the bathroom." Isabella's intentions were clear, and I responded uncomfortably.

Maybe because his parents were back, James came home earlier in the afternoon. As soon as he arrived, Isabella pushed him into my room and closed the door.

"Emily, does your foot still hurt?" James asked, gently massaging my injured foot and applying medicine.

James continued, "I've neglected you these past few days. I'll make it up to you. I had my driver's license ready, but when Mom called today, I remembered your foot was injured. I was too hasty. Let's wait until you're healed before we register for marriage."

He probably felt relieved that we couldn't register for marriage today.

"Emily, don't stay silent. It makes me think you're overthinking again." James said, suddenly kissing me, his voice coaxing.

"Emily, let's just have sex. I want to prove my love for you." This time, James was very proactive, his actions urgent. Looking into his passionate eyes, I wavered again.

My skin ignited under his touch, and I squirmed, clinging to his shoulders, unable to help but call out softly, "James."

James's Adam's apple bobbed as he unbuttoned my shirt and slipped his hand into my bra.

He skillfully unhooked my bra, and I didn't have time to think, wrapping my arms around him and kissing him deeply.

Aiden was making soup in the kitchen, and the aroma wafted into the room. With his parents around, my excitement only grew.

"Can I?" James's hand was on my underwear, looking at me, waiting for my nod to break the final barrier.

"Yes." My face was hot, shy yet expectant.

Just as his hand was about to move, his phone suddenly rang.

"Don't answer it," I said, but he looked at the caller ID, his eyes conflicted.

"James." I grabbed his arm, wanting him to continue.

But he pushed me away, his expression clearing. "I should answer it. What if it's something urgent?"

Ava's urgent matter? More urgent than mine right now?

"The dog is missing? Where's John? Didn't he come? I can't leave right now, don't cry, I'll come over later." James hung up and looked at me apologetically.

"Go ahead." I felt like a bucket of cold water had been poured over me.

James left without hesitation, and Isabella's scolding voice echoed in the living room, "Didn't you just come back? What could be so urgent at work?"

James didn't even respond. Isabella opened the door, saw my disheveled state, and quickly retreated.

I hurriedly dressed, and she asked from the doorway, "Emily, can I come in?"

I replied, "Come in."

"What could be more important than you? He's really making me angry. I have no idea where he got that from. His dad isn't like that at all." Isabella sat down, complaining.

I thought I needed to prepare Isabella mentally. So I said, "He's not handling work matters."

"That's even worse. You're the most important." Isabella was furious, and Aiden called from outside, "Dinner's ready!"

"All you know is eating! Can't you manage James?" Isabella snapped, then gently said to me, "Emily, you must be hungry. I'll bring the food in."

As soon as she turned around, my tears fell uncontrollably.

I quickly wiped them away, and Sophia called. I answered.

Sophia's voice came through, "Emily, I have to work tonight. You need to keep off your foot. I can't come to see you, but I'll have someone deliver some snacks to you."

I said, "I also want coffee."

"Sure! But you can't drink alcohol while you're on medication." She reminded me worriedly.

I thought about how I told her last night that I wanted to break up with James, and today I almost had sex with him. I felt a bit guilty.

"Hey, remember yesterday when I said Ava looked familiar? Well, today it hit me. Isn't she the girl who used to bully you?" Sophia asked, bringing up Ava.

I didn't know what to say. I never really paid much attention to Ava. After Mia passed away, I thought I'd never see her again.

Sophia kept going, "If you're not saying anything, it means yes. She's changed so much! I always thought she was weird, but now I get it. She had her eyes on James the whole time!"

I replied, "Don't say that. She had a boyfriend back then."

"That was then. A guy and a girl alone in a room, even the dog had to be sent away. Who knows what they did!" Sophia's words made me more alert.

Just now, we were about to get intimate. But James even left me alone because Ava's dog was missing. It meant he cared about Ava very much.

Sophia asked, "Did he come home?"
