Chapter 4 Are You Tired of Me
Harper flashed a sly smile, hiding a lot behind it.
"Don't you think it looks good?" Harper chuckled, her smile a mix of self-mockery and challenge.
"It looks good, but isn't it a bit too flashy?"
Back in the day, Harper would've changed in a heartbeat if James said that.
James rushed over, his eyes full of tenderness.
He wanted to get closer, to prove everything with a kiss, but Harper smoothly dodged him, a flicker of coldness in her eyes.
"You're as beautiful and charming as ever, otherwise, I wouldn't have fallen for you at first sight," James said.
"Staying up late every day ages me quickly, unlike those young girls at the office." Harper threw a deliberate jab at Emily.
"Harper, you'll always be the most beautiful woman in my heart." James held her hand tight, placing it on his chest, pouring out his love.
Harper smiled slightly, her fingertips moving lightly, as if responding, yet also rejecting.
"Alright, enough. There's still work to do at the office."
Harper gently pulled away, turned around gracefully, leaving James looking stunned.
Ignoring the cold remarks from the Smith family, Harper drove straight to the office.
As soon as she walked in, all eyes were on her.
"Is that Ms. Anderson? Am I seeing things?" The employees whispered, full of surprise.
"Ms. Anderson is so beautiful!" Praises erupted, warming Harper's heart.
This transformation wasn't just to catch eyes, but also the start of her self-redemption.
Just then, Emily strutted into the office in high heels, expecting to see Harper embarrassed, but was instead taken aback by Harper's radiant presence.
"Harper." Emily's voice was soft, full of disbelief.
"What's up?" Harper, in a pink business suit, looked both capable and charming.
"Nothing, it's just that you suddenly became so beautiful." Emily forced a smile, trying to take her arm, but Harper gently avoided her.
"Get used to it." Harper smiled faintly, heading to her desk.
Emily cursed inwardly but still acted sweetly, "I still think the old you was the most charming."
Harper looked down at the documents, a mocking smile on her lips. "Then you can try. By the way, check out this personnel change notice!"
Emily's face froze upon hearing this.
Harper pulled a document from the drawer and pushed it in front of Emily, her eyes leaving no room for argument.
Emily's face stiffened as she took the document Harper handed over, feeling uneasy. Job adjustment? There must be a catch.
"Harper, I really don't want to be reassigned. Do you dislike me? Tell me what's wrong, and I'll change!" Emily's eyes reddened, her voice as plaintive as a kitten's mew.
Harper didn't even lift her eyelids, a slight smile on her lips. "The document is there, read it first."
Emily bit her lip, opened the document, and her face instantly became complicated.
"Harper." Emily looked up in shock. "You want me to go to Mr. Smith?"
"Yes." Harper leisurely sipped her coffee. "Don't want to go?"
A hint of joy flashed in Emily's eyes but was quickly hidden.
How could she say no to such a good thing? Emily pretended to be reluctant. "Harper, isn't this bad? If people find out, they'll think it was my idea."
Harper smiled without saying a word, seeing through her thoughts. "If you don't want to, I have other candidates here, take a look."
Emily looked at the resume, the girl on it was youthful and vibrant. In comparison, Emily felt a deep hatred but still smiled sweetly. "Harper, I'll go. I won't let you down! I'll miss you so much!"
"Alright, go out!" Harper didn't want to say another word.
As soon as she left the office, Emily's face turned livid.
Even that couldn't make Harper let go, she really could endure.
Did Harper really couldn't let go of James, or is this just a game of playing hard to get?
When James saw Emily suddenly visiting, his brows furrowed tightly. "Why are you here?"
Emily closed the door, her eyes reddening. "Mr. Smith, are you tired of me?"
