Chapter 8

Margaret was taken aback, not expecting him to be so polite. If he didn't want to sign, he didn't have to, but why give her such an irresistible reason?

She knew doctors were very busy, and since he said he had many surgeries, she definitely couldn't force him to sign.

"Alright, then get some rest early, we'll talk about it tomorrow!"

Margaret thought it wasn't urgent, so she agreed.

Leonard got up and casually opened a room. Margaret was about to stop him, saying it was her bedroom, but he had already gone in and closed the door.

She had no choice but to make do with the guest room tonight.

In the guest room, she tossed and turned, finding it hard to fall asleep.

In the dead of night, her mind started to replay everything that had happened today. She got married, she really got married!

She turned over, feeling her eyelids getting heavy.

The quilt in the guest room was a bit thin, and she felt cold, curling up into a ball.

The next morning, Margaret stretched and sat up in bed, only to find that the quilt on her was different from yesterday's.

Yesterday it was a thin quilt, but now it had been replaced with the one from the master bedroom.

She shivered, realizing something, and looked towards the door. Although it was closed, she couldn't shake the feeling that something was watching her from outside.

She slapped herself, telling herself not to think about such nonsense.

She got out of bed and saw Leonard already dressed at the door. "Are you going to work?"

Leonard nodded, "I have several surgeries today, it might be quite busy."

Margaret wanted to say it was fine, but he had already closed the door and left.

She looked at the closed door, lost in thought.

She and Leonard were married, but their way of interacting was still a bit strange.

Shrugging, she told herself not to think about it. Keeping things as they were wasn't bad; at least she was free from Stella and Howard.

Yesterday, after Howard took Stella to the hospital, they found out she was pregnant.

Stella was shocked, looking at Layla and Howard beside her, thinking she had misheard.

"Doctor, did you say I'm pregnant?"

"Yes, but you almost had a miscarriage today. You need to be more careful. The early stages of pregnancy are the most prone to miscarriage. Family members should also be more attentive. Today's situation must not happen again."

Stella was both surprised and delighted, grabbing Howard's hand, "Howard, I'm pregnant, we have our own child!"

Howard looked at the joyful Stella, pursed his lips, his expression complex, but he still gently stroked her hair.

Layla was naturally very happy too, asking the doctor many questions about precautions.

Stella lay in the hospital bed, feeling a bit scared about her earlier actions.

Actually, Margaret hadn't touched her at all. She had deliberately fallen back when she saw Howard walking over from the opposite side.

She originally wanted Howard to think Margaret was a scheming woman, but she almost lost her child.

She and Howard had made love many times, and he didn't like using condoms, always ejaculating inside.

Despite so many times, her belly had shown no signs, and she had even wondered if there was something wrong with her body, planning to get checked soon.

Who knew the child would appear so suddenly? She couldn't be happier.

Now with the child, she could urge Howard to marry her quickly. Otherwise, by the time of the wedding, her belly would be big, and the Fields Family would lose face.

This child was a big bargaining chip for her.

Layla finished talking with the doctor and returned, looking at Howard, "Howard, now that Stella is pregnant, you heard what the doctor said. You should hold the wedding soon, so Stella can rightfully join the Fields Family and take care of her health."

Howard looked at Layla, then at Stella lying in bed, her eyes full of affection, his brow furrowed.

"I'll go back and discuss it with my family."

Layla nodded, "That would be best."

A lot had happened these past few days, and it was right for him to inform his family.

Margaret had just finished breakfast when her phone vibrated on the table. She picked it up and immediately answered.

"John, you're awake!"

John sighed quietly on the other end upon hearing her voice.

"Margaret, Layla has told me about your situation. This is our fault. Since you've found someone else to rely on, I have no right to stop you."

Margaret felt a bit sad hearing this.

She didn't really want to make things difficult for John. It was just that on the wedding day, if she didn't marry Leonard, she would truly be trampled by Howard and Stella.

"John, I don't blame you."

She was very grateful to John for raising her all these years.

"Sigh, let's not talk about this. Since you're married now, bring your husband over when you have time. We should all meet and get to know each other."

Margaret nodded, "I know, John. He's a bit busy at the hospital these days. Once he's free, I'll bring him over."

Since she was married, she didn't plan to hide it from John, nor did she want to keep Leonard from meeting her family.

She was just waiting for the right time.

"John, how's your health? Do you need me to visit you at the hospital?"

Margaret didn't want to be involved with Layla and Stella anymore, but she couldn't let go of John.

"No need, my health is fine. You take care of your own things. There must be a lot to do right after getting married."

John's understanding brought a warm feeling to Margaret's heart. John still cared about her, unlike the hypocrisy of Layla and Stella.

After hanging up, Margaret received a text from Leonard around noon.

He said his later surgeries were canceled and asked if there was anything she needed to buy, as he could bring it back from the supermarket.

Margaret thought for a moment and decided to go out herself. She couldn't specify what she needed; she had to see it in person.

"Let's meet at the supermarket!"

After sending the message, Margaret started changing clothes to go out.

In the supermarket, Margaret took a cart and walked alongside Leonard.

The cart was a bit big, so Leonard took it from her, "I'll push it."

Margaret didn't stand on ceremony and asked, "What do you like to eat? You said you don't like fish yesterday, but is there something you do like?"

When Leonard was abroad, he was very busy with work, always either in surgery or at seminars.

He usually ordered takeout.

"Anything, you decide."

Margaret was surprised. She always thought the word "anything" was only used by girls.
