Chapter 9 She Didn't Want to See James Anymore

Emily rocked a backless dress today, and the first thing James noticed was her smooth, delicate back with a random guy's rough hand resting on it.

The contrast between her smooth skin and his rough hand made you wonder how it must feel to have that rough hand kneading her delicate back.

James was fuming.

It had only been two days since she signed the divorce papers, and she was already with another guy!

Did she really need a man that badly?

Did she even think about the fact that they weren't officially divorced yet?

Legally, she was still his wife!

Sophia, standing next to him, suddenly let out a low cry.

James snapped back to reality and realized he was holding Sophia's waist too tightly, causing her pain.

He quickly let go. "Sophia, I'm sorry, I hurt you."

"It's okay, James. As long as it's from you, even pain makes me happy," Sophia leaned against James' arm and said softly.

Looking at Sophia, who gazed at him with admiration, and then at Emily, who had signed the divorce papers just two days ago and was already with who knew how many men, James felt even more resentment towards Emily.

"Mr. Smith!" David, who was chatting with Emily, saw James and immediately waved happily to greet him.

Emily's heart sank as she turned and instantly spotted James near the banquet hall's entrance.

The custom-made suit made him look exceptionally tall and straight, and his long-standing authoritative presence made it hard for anyone to ignore him.

His flawless face left even the harshest critics speechless, made it unforgettable at first glance.

Over the years, even though James had been extremely cold to Emily, she still couldn't forget or let go of him, mainly because of that face.

No wonder Sophia abandoned Emily as a good friend and shamelessly went after James.

At this moment, Sophia, who had stolen Emily's man, was wearing a light pink V-neck, waist-cinching dress, gently leaning against James' arm.

'What a pair of scumbags!' Emily gritted her teeth in hatred.

"Emily, this is Mr. Smith, my important business partner. Let me introduce you." David, not noticing Emily's expression, excitedly wrapped his arm around her smooth waist and walked towards James.

James also wrapped his arm around Sophia's waist and walked towards them.

The four stood face to face.

"Mr. Smith." David enthusiastically extended his hand. "Your date is very beautiful."

James stared intently at Emily, his gaze sharp enough to cut off David's hand from Emily's waist.

Hearing David's words, he pulled Sophia closer and answered David's question while looking at Emily, "No, David, Sophia is not just my date." James smiled and kissed Sophia's forehead. "Sophia is my fiancée. I never let irrelevant women stand by my side."

Out of James' sight, Emily's nails dug deeply into her palm.

After five years of marriage, Emily had always dreamed of being seen in public with James, even if it was just as his date, but James never agreed.

What did James say back then?

He said he didn't like to make his private life public.

Now, without Sophia saying a word, James was proudly announcing her as his fiancée.

From start to finish, Emily was the "irrelevant person," whether during their marriage or now, after she had signed the divorce papers and had nothing to do with him.

Seeing Emily's face turn pale, James' anger subsided a bit, and he smiled at Sophia. "Sophia, this is David, who is negotiating a partnership with the Smith Group. You might see him often in the future."

Did that mean James would always introduce Sophia as his fiancée to his business partners?

Sophia gave Emily a smug look and smiled as she extended her hand to David. "David, nice to meet you."

After a few pleasantries, Sophia shifted the topic to Emily. "Emily, when did you and David get together? A few days ago, weren't you still..."

Sophia seemed to realize she had said something inappropriate and quickly covered her mouth.

Sophia apologized to David with a look of regret, "David, I didn't mean anything by it. I just wanted to say that I saw Emily a few days ago, and she looks just as beautiful as she did then. David, you have excellent taste."

David didn't catch Sophia's insinuation about Emily changing men in just a few days, but he wholeheartedly agreed with the compliment.

"I also think I have excellent taste. Emily is my goddess. I believe no one in the world is more beautiful than Emily," David said, looking at Emily with eyes full of affection.

James saw all this, and his hatred for Emily deepened.

David, oblivious to the tension, excitedly asked for James' opinion, "Mr. Smith, don't you agree?"

Goddess?

A goddess who casually harmed people and slept with countless men in just a few days?

James gave Emily a cold look and answered, "David, some women only look good on the surface and seem kind, but only after spending a long time with them do you realize if they are truly goddesses."

Emily tried hard to control herself, trying not to slap James in front of everyone.

'James, how can you be so cruel? I've already signed the divorce papers and have nothing to do with you, yet you still want to ruin my reputation in front of my friends.' Emily's heart was filled with hatred and pain.

She was already disappointed enough in James, but she didn't expect he could make her even more disappointed.

"Mr. Smith, it seems you know women well. How many women did you have to know to come to that conclusion? Or do you just hate me? Sorry, but seeing you makes me so disgusted I want to throw up everything I just ate." Emily retaliated fiercely against James and then turned to David. "Sorry, David, I'm not feeling well. I need to find a place to rest."

With that, Emily turned to leave, unwilling to face James for another moment.

A loud bang erupted from a corner of the banquet hall, throwing it into chaos.
