CHAPTER FOUR: Hoping for a miracle
Alexia's phone rang continuously as the lectures was going on, Everyone looked at her, she broke the first rule of the class.
"I am sorry, professor Kim," she apologized, quickly mute the phone. The professor continued the lecture.
She dropped a message for the unknown caller, "Hey, I am sorry I can't take this call. Please drop a message."
She sent it and continue with her lecture, without a second her phone beeped again from the unknown caller, "Hello, Alexia Thomas. This is from the kindergarten school, it's about the twin; they left the class before dismissal." She looked at the message, did not bothered to respond to the message, figured out the twins were out of control again.
The lecture was over, Alexia hurriedly close her laptop into her bag and walked out from the classroom.
The next class begun, but she had to skip the class though the marks was based on attendance and exams, Alexia knew she had to read extra hard for the exam to get a good grade.
She ran out of the building to the kindergarten school that was 3km away from her campus.
The kindergarten school was deserted, parents throbbed in to pick up their children.
Alexia searched for them around the school for more than 30 minutes, and yet she couldn't find them.
She was too scared to loose her children, they were the only things that kept her alive.
Alexia sat on the playground to calm her nerves and anxiety, then she saw the twins talking and laughing to someone she could not recognize as a parents of the school.
"Rita! And Rhoda!," she stood up, walking to their direction as they both ran to her smiling.
The twins looked unharmed and happier around the stranger.
Alexia hugged, kissed their forehands tightly, "I told you two not to leave the class," she said softly, trying to shake off her anxiety and fear within.
The twins hugged her tightly with a smile on their face, "We just went to play hide and seek Mummy so you can find us." Rhoda replied, kissing Alexia's face but Alexia was not finding it funny with them.
"Mum, our new friend is here," Rita announced, trying not to get punished at home again.
Alexia sighed, looked up to see the so-called friend but at the moment, she seemed disconnected from her body.
Her eyes widened when she saw the new friend the twins were talking about. She grabbed the twins to her bosom tightly as her heart beats faster.
She knew that he would come looking for her after what he did to her in the club night, where he spiked her drink and also getting dumped by him.
Because of him, Alexia changed her last name, moved to a new place so he won't attack her again. But there he is, standing right before her.
"Mum, is everything alright?," Rita asked, gazed at her mother's eyes and wondered if she has seen a ghost.
Alexia grabbed the twins, walked so fast that she wanted to disappear from the school gate to her apartment.
"Mum, is everything alright?, Are you scared that the stranger would take us away from you?" Rhoda asked.
Alexia stopped walking, brought them down to the ground with a deep sigh, "I'm deeply sorry, my babies. But I have always warned you two not to talk to strangers," she said gently,
"We are sorry, Mummy, " The both of them chorused sadly, holding their ears.
"So tell me, why did you leave the class before dismissal. I got the report." She asked. But they kept mute, not saying anything to their mummy.
Alexia knew that they took after their father's stubbornness, and they won't mention anything to her about their whereabouts.
They hopped inside the cab infront of them, Alexia adjusted the seatbelt, "Road 3468," she gave the address to the cab driver.
Alexia had always hoped never to cross path with him in this life, but nature have always work against her from day one. She prayed every night that he would suffer the pain she underwent all these years, but it was the opposite he looked more handsome, good looking with sexy body than before in college days.
The cab driver stopped at Road 3468, they dropped down and walked into the third floor of the building.
They noticed that their neighbors were packing out of the house, not one but all of them, Alexis found a paper right in front of their apartment
#The building has been sold to a wealthy business owner,#
She was lost, fear gripped her heart "Mummy, what's happening? Why is everyone leaving?," Rhoda asked.
Alexied was dumbfounded, not knowing what to do at the moment. Her boss is yet to pay her off for two months, she have nobody to run to this time, her aunt who helped her years back died few weeks ago.
Her family, Sun disowned her publicly just to retain their reputation because she refused to speak up who was the father of the child. Alexia tried to abort the pregnancy, but they were against it; they chose their religion over their daughter.
The landlord drove into the building, Alexia ran to him her eyes were red, "What is going on?, why the sudden termination of tenants in the house latest tomorrow evening," she complained.
"Why do you want me to go with the twins?," tears dropped from her eyes.
The landlord looked at her, said calmly "You read the papers well, the house has been sold and the owner wants to demolish the building,"
"I'm sorry, Alexia. At least I have helped you enough for the period of months, my hands are tied." He said, pushed her aside.
The twin looked at her so confused, "Mummy, is the landlord pushing us away from the house,?" Rhoda asked, fear and nervousness were written on her face which piece Alexia's heart into two.
"No, my dear. We are not leaving, the landlord wants to renovate the house," she assued them.
"Everyone here is moving to the camp station for days, and will be back during the weekend." She said, smiled at them.
"We are going for camping," the two chorused happily while they both helped her to pack their bags in a sack.
Alexia have no idea where to go or what to do about the situation at hand, she put the last bag in a box and laid on the floor hoping for a miracle to happen that night.
