Chapter 8 She is the True Bloodline of the Watson Family

The court staff tried to mediate between Ethan and Emily, but when it was clear there was no chance of reconciliation, they went ahead and processed the divorce papers.

Ethan held the divorce certificate, feeling like he was in some kind of dream.

Emily asked, "So, the divorce is final, Ethan. Can I expect a public apology tomorrow?"

Ethan snapped back to reality and said, "Yeah, sure."

Emily nodded and stood up. "Once I get your public apology, I'll leave Maple Valley for good and you won't see me."

Ethan's grip on the divorce certificate tightened, and his heart ached for reasons he couldn't quite understand.

He stood up, shoved the divorce certificate into his pocket, and said to Emily with a gloomy face, "You're living in the slums now? That place isn't safe. I told you, the apartment is yours; I'm not taking it back. You can move back there."

Emily put her divorce certificate away and replied with a blank expression, "No, thanks. Goodbye. Hope we never meet again."

With the divorce finalized, her last tie to Ethan was cut. Emily hoped they'd never cross paths again.

Emily turned and left the courthouse. Ethan glared at her retreating back, feeling even angrier.

Brian, who was standing nearby, sighed. "I never thought it would end like this for you two."

As Emily walked towards the door, her phone rang. She answered, "Mr. Watson?"

Vincent asked, "Why aren't you in the hospital room?"

Emily replied softly, "I'm out at the courthouse to finalize the divorce with Ethan."

Vincent seemed momentarily stunned and said, "Wait for me." Then he hung up.

Emily wanted to say, "I can go back by myself," but knowing Vincent's usual demeanor, she swallowed her words.

Emily sat on the steps outside the courthouse, waiting for Vincent and staring at the divorce certificate in a daze.

She hadn't expected to reach this point with Ethan. The memory of their marriage registration was still vivid. How ironic.

Emily put away the divorce certificate and was about to book a flight to Veritas for the next evening when a black sedan pulled up in front of her.

The rear window rolled down, revealing Vincent's handsome face. He gestured to Emily. "Get in."

Emily didn't move. She looked at Vincent and cautiously said, "Mr. Watson, we should avoid contact in the future. If a journalist snaps a photo of us together and it gets published, the Thompson Family will realize your immense wealth and undoubtedly pester you and harass the Watson Family."

Vincent insisted, "Get in the car first."

Emily got into the back seat next to Vincent.

Vincent asked nonchalantly, "The divorce is finalized?"

Emily nodded lightly.

Vincent looked at her in disbelief, thinking, 'That was really quick. I didn't expect it.'

Emily turned to Vincent and said, "How much is the hospital bill? I'll transfer it to you. And the money for your tie."

Before Vincent could respond, the car suddenly swerved, and Emily cried out, losing her balance and falling into Vincent.

Vincent's first reaction was to quickly hold Emily with both hands.

Emily found herself in Vincent's warm embrace, realizing her head was almost buried in his lap. Her ears turned red with embarrassment, and she quickly tried to sit up.

Vincent looked down and asked, "You okay?"

Emily quickly turned her head. "Yeah, I'm fine. Totally fine."

Before she could finish, she found herself face-to-face with Vincent's handsome visage. With her head still raised, her lips accidentally brushed against his cheek.

Their eyes met, and Emily's heart raced. She quickly moved away, staring out the window in embarrassment.

The driver, sweating bullets, apologized, "Mr. Watson, I'm sorry. A car suddenly cut us off."

Vincent didn't seem to mind, crossing his long legs and saying in a good mood, "It's fine."

Emily sat up straight and apologized, "Mr. Watson, I'm sorry."

The car smoothly drove through the villa's main gate in the city center.

Emily turned to Vincent, "Mr. Watson, I'll get off here. I won't go in."

Vincent's tone was firm, "You're staying here tonight."

Emily was anxious, "My luggage is still over there. I need to go back."

The assistant had already opened the car door. Vincent got out and said, "Carl will bring it back for you."

Emily stood there, at a loss for words. She knew arguing with Vincent was pointless.

Emily had been to Vincent's villa in Maple Valley before but had never stayed overnight.

Vincent instructed the housekeeper to prepare a room for Emily and then went to his study for a meeting.

Emily entered the room, turned on her phone, and browsed the Horizon Peak University forum. She immediately saw Ethan's public apology statement on the bulletin board. So quickly, it seemed he couldn't wait to be with Amy.

Ethan's personal Twitter also had an apology statement. It stated that Emily had not drugged Ethan, and it was a misunderstanding; Ethan, holding a grudge against Emily, took photos for revenge when he wasn't thinking clearly, damaging Emily's reputation, disrupting her life, and causing her severe psychological harm. He sincerely apologized to Emily.

The comments were full of astonishment.

Some suspected there was more to the story. Some supported Emily calling the police. Some cursed Ethan as a scumbag.

Some, knowing Emily and Ethan's past, thought Ethan was giving Emily a way out out of old feelings.

Others questioned how to deal with the already circulated photos, as many boys had taken and posted them on social media.

Fortunately, the incident hadn't yet escalated, and Ethan had already issued an apology statement. Emily only hoped the matter would quickly die down.

After reading the posts, Emily put down her phone and planned to go downstairs for a glass of water before bed. As she descended the stairs, she saw Vincent standing in front of the fridge, talking on the phone.

Vincent had just showered, his tall and lean body clad in a slightly open dark blue loungewear, revealing his chest and abs. He held a cigarette and was focused on his call, not noticing Emily approaching.

Vincent said, "I've always remembered the Watson Family's kindness in raising me. An arranged marriage isn't out of the question, but Ms. Gray isn't a suitable match. I'm just an adopted son, not a true Watson by blood. Emily is outstanding; why can't you let her join the Watson Family directly? She is the true blood of the Watson Family."
