Chapter 6 The Interview
"I don't care who you are. You're not the one signing my paycheck. I listen to whoever pays my salary!" The security guard grumbled to himself about Ryan's foolish behavior.
Just then, Joseph walked up to Victoria with a smile. "Are you Ms. Gonzalez? We spoke on the phone yesterday. The other interviewees are here. Please follow me."
"Okay, just a sec." Victoria apologized to Joseph and quickly walked over to Ryan. "Get out of here and stop making a scene. If you keep yelling, they might call the cops." With that, Victoria turned and left. Ryan had no choice but to leave.
Joseph led Victoria to the interview area, where another interviewee in a red dress was waiting outside. "Ms. Gonzalez, please wait here. When your name is called, you can go in," Joseph said before opening the door and entering the interview room.
Victoria took a deep breath, feeling a bit nervous. She looked at the beautiful woman in the red dress in front of her, hesitated for a moment, then gently poked the woman's arm with her finger and smiled.
"Excuse me, are you here for the interview too?" Victoria thought her polite greeting would be reciprocated, but the woman in the red dress snorted coldly at her.
"If you knew you were coming for an interview, why didn't you dress up a bit? Showing up in just a shirt, you look like you've never seen the world." The woman in the red dress disdainfully flipped her hair, making her cleavage appear even deeper.
Victoria looked at the woman's ample chest, then glanced down at her own. Actually, Victoria's chest wasn't small either, just not as large as the other woman's. She could create cleavage too, but she didn't want to attract attention that way.
"Do you think I rely solely on my looks to seduce the interviewer? Look closely, I'm a PhD from Evergreen University! Which university did you get your PhD from?" The woman in the red dress waved her resume in front of Victoria.
Victoria's initial pride vanished instantly. 'Her looks, body, and education all surpass mine. Am I done for today? I even told Michael yesterday that I would get a job. If I fail the interview, who knows how he'll mock me?' Victoria felt both sad and frustrated.
"Next interviewee, Aria Clark." Joseph's voice came from the interview room.
"I'm going in. You better hurry home, or you might miss the bus." Aria gave Victoria a mocking smile and then walked into the interview room.
If Aria hadn't said that, Victoria might have really considered quitting early. But her provocation ignited a strong sense of competition in Victoria.
"If I leave now, wouldn't that mean I'm really scared? Even if I lose, I want to lose with dignity, not as a coward." As Victoria was psyching herself up, the door to the interview room suddenly opened, and Aria stormed out in her high heels, looking furious.
"Are they blind to reject someone as talented as me?" Aria glared at Victoria before stomping out of the building.
"What's her problem? I'm not the interviewer, why glare at me?" Victoria rolled her eyes.
"Next interviewee, Victoria, you can come in now." Joseph's voice came from inside the room again. Victoria took a deep breath and pushed the door open.
Victoria actually didn't have much hope for this interview. If someone as outstanding as Aria was rejected, they probably wouldn't want someone like her either.
'No wonder the Jones Group has the highest salaries; their interviews are so strict.' Victoria sighed inwardly and handed over her resume.
Joseph pretended to look seriously at Victoria's resume, then smiled at her and asked, "Ms. Gonzalez, do you like the Jones Group?"
Victoria nodded. "I do like it, especially since the salary here is quite high."
"Glad to hear that, Ms. Gonzalez. Do you think you can handle the role of the CEO's assistant?" Joseph suddenly asked.
