Chapter 10 Her Husband was a CEO
A few basic pieces of clothing, carefully chosen by her, instantly gave off a high-end vibe. She wore a blue shirt with the top two buttons undone, showing a white round neck that hugged her skin-toned neck, with a hint of pink. She paired it with white jeans and a black trench coat, accessorized with a thin black belt and small leather shoes.
Her whole look screamed sophisticated professional. Staring at herself in the mirror, Quinn already knew what hairstyle would complete the outfit.
After a shower, she hit the sack alone, not waiting for Carl to come home.
Global Horizon Enterprises conference room.
Carl closed the folder.
"Great job, everyone. I'll have finance set up the rewards. Go home and get some rest. I'll handle the new appointment myself tomorrow."
"Goodnight, Mr. Ward. You should get some rest too."
Once everyone left, Carl pulled out the bottom folder and opened it. "Tailor-made" was an event plan he had created back in college, and now it was finally about to kick off.
"Remember when I said I'd make a wedding dress for you, measuring our lifelong feelings with this ruler?" He then gazed out at the night sky.
Awakened by the alarm clock, Quinn instinctively reached out, but found nothing. She turned her head and saw the empty space beside her, feeling a bit disappointed.
"That jerk, already lost interest so quickly."
She was wide awake now, going through her morning routine—coffee, bathroom, and shower.
While showering, she thought about the scar on Carl's arm, which he had exposed carelessly.
"This Carl must have a story. If you behave well, I wouldn't mind helping you heal. After all, you're lucky to have such a good wife."
After the shower, she put on the outfit she had prepared the night before, applied some lip balm, and gave herself a pep talk.
"Quinn, you're the best!"
She took a cab to Elegance Group. Before she even got out, she saw a group of people standing orderly at the entrance.
From their matching professional attire, it seemed they were waiting to welcome someone important.
She realized she looked a bit out of place compared to them.
The men and women wore suits of the same color, with the only difference being the ties. The female employees wore stockings with stunning looks, enough to make anyone's heart skip a beat.
Suddenly, a woman with a commanding presence stared at Quinn and walked over with a cold expression.
"Who are you? Don't get in the way."
Quinn wanted to retort to the woman's condescending tone, but that would be awkward if she was the interviewer.
"I'm here for an interview. Your company called me last night to schedule it."
The woman looked her up and down and finally asked, "Are you here to interview for the fashion designer position?"
Quinn nodded, and the woman sneered.
"I don't know what you young people are thinking. Either don't dress up at all or do it properly. Do you really think anyone can get into Elegance Group looking like this?"
Quinn was taken aback. She glanced at the woman's name badge—Creative Director of the Fashion Design Department, Isolde Porter.
"Sorry, Miss Porter, I'm not familiar with your company's requirements."
"Don't you get it? I told you not to stay here."
Isolde was mid-scolding when a voice crackled through her walkie-talkie. "The new CEO has arrived!"
Isolde scanned the area and pointed to a corner of the lobby. "Find a corner to stay in. Wait until the new CEO goes up, then you can come out."
She then jogged back to her position. Although Quinn was puzzled, she respected the request.
She ran to the side of the crowd and hid behind a curtain near a pillar, noticing that someone else had already hidden there.
"Didn't they say yesterday that the new CEO wouldn't arrive for at least a month? Why is he here today?"
"I heard the new CEO is only 25 years old. He made a name for himself at 20 in the business world. He has dual PhDs and manages several large companies."
"I saw his profile in the office yesterday. He is so handsome. If I could see him every day, I'd never be late."
"But I also heard that the company had been undergoing major changes. They're still hiring to fill the gaps!"
Quinn felt a mix of curiosity and amusement. She was curious about the new CEO, sure; what really tickled her was the fact that she had excitedly competed in the selection contest for an interview, only to find out it was because the company had a new CEO and was looking to bring in a fresh batch of employees.
She was more curious about how someone could become a CEO at 25 and manage several large companies.
This was Elegance Group, the leading design company in Sunrise City. The CEO must be a peerless talent.
She began planning how to impress in the interview to get the job.
"The new CEO is here!" Someone shouted, and all eyes turned to the entrance.
Quinn could only see a car pulling up through the gaps in the crowd, followed by several people getting out and surrounding someone as they walked into the lobby.
The executives at the entrance straightened up. Even the shorter ones stood on tiptoe to catch a glimpse of the new CEO, who stirred excitement among everyone.
Quinn saw a tall figure walking against the light, like a moving mountain. Surrounded by executives, they walked into the lobby.
In the grand lobby, only the sound of footsteps and a voice reporting could be heard. Unfortunately, Quinn could only see a back. 'Why does he look so much like Carl?'
Just as she had this thought, the new CEO seemed to sense it and stopped, scanning the area before finally looking at Quinn. When their eyes met, Quinn instinctively shouted. "Carl?"
In Oakridge Springs, Emily had just dropped off Alan and bought groceries on her way back.
As soon as she opened the door, she was kicked hard. Emily fell into the house and turned to see Jake, her face turning pale with fear.
"How did you find this place?"
Jake responded with a slap and then straddled Emily, beating her. After venting his anger, he got up and went to the kitchen to get a bottle of milk from the fridge.
"Ugh!" He spat it out. "Bitch, look at what your daughter has done. Daniel got beaten up by his man, and he took it out on me. Aren't you going to call her over to kneel and apologize properly?"
