Chapter 5
SOPHIE'S POV
His hands were cold, I could not believe that he was asking me to marry him. I looked into his eyes; all I could ever see was a man who was in need of my help.
I jerked my hands from him. I did not feel all right. I was weak and my knees were about to go into the ground.
" What do you have to say about what I asked you?" His words echoed in my ears.
" I have nothing to say. What do you want from me and why me? There are others out there, why me?" I looked at him, feeling sad and worried for myself.
" I am in a mess and you are the only one on my mind. This won't take long, six months, and we are done; you aren't my type, and that will make you free after six months," he said.
He was cold, he did not care about me and how I felt about it.
He never cared to know about what I thought about everything that was happening.
" I can not do it" I spat out.
He ran his fingers through his hair in frustration.
" How can you say that? Do you have any idea what is going to happen to me if I do not get a wife?" He raised his voice at me.
It was none of my business. All I wanted was to get some money to get a place since Cecily had taken the one I had.
I looked at him and how frustrated he was.
" You do not have a choice; you have to marry me and help me clear the accusations that have been leveled against me," he said.
I smiled for the first time since all of these started. I saw the way he was on and about what he wanted.
He walked close to me, and the smile on my face vanished.
His presence brought this fear to my body, I held the wall.
" You have no idea the benefits that are before you" he spoke in a voice that held authority. His eyes were filled with anger and the need to get what he wanted.
I looked at the house, my life was scattered and in a mess. I had no money and here he was asking me to marry him.
" What benefit do you have for me?" I asked him.
He looked at me, his face held a serious expression.
" I'll give you $2 million," he said.
It rang in my head; I raised my face and looked at him; it seemed I did not hear the money he was offering. What kind of a man was he? He thinks that he can buy me with the money he has. Well, I do not have anything and I do not know where to get any money from.
" You are not serious; I do not think you would give me that," I said.
" You think I am poor or something?" He felt insulted.
He looked at the man who had come to him.
The man came to him and handed him a letter.
He took it and pushed it to me. I took the letter and read what was written in it. It was an offer, I calmly read it. My eyes widened, my hands were shaking, and I had calmed myself down.
What was written in the paper was him giving me the money, the $ 2 million. I could not believe it.
I held the paper close to my chest.
" Give me some time to think about this," I said.
He hit the wall with his hands in anger.
" How can you say that? I have offered you this, and you are telling me to give you some time? You can't be serious. I want you to answer me right away; my life and business are on the line." he was tense, and he looked very angry.
I have never seen him that way. It got to a point where he wanted to plead but there was no attitude to do that.
He looked at me.
" You should consider this by tomorrow; do not waste my time." he walked to the door.
" I have one more request," I said.
He turned and faced me.
" What is it? Do you want more money? The one that was given to you was not enough?" He raised his eyebrows at me.
It made me feel like I was being all about the money.
" I can not believe you" I shook my head.
Mi eyes ran through the house. This belonged to my mother and I was not going to lose it.
" If you want me to do this for you, you have to keep this house for me. I want to have it and keep it. This belonged to my mother, and I want to still have it," I said.
" I do not care about this house right now. All I want you to do is to marry me; you can have the house." he left the place.
I fell to the ground. I was weak and had no strength in me. I was hungry as well. I managed to stand up from where I had sat.
I walked to the door and got out, the sun entered my face and I had to cover my face from the sun.
I held my phone in my hands. There was no one I could call, I was hungry and I looked messy. My hair had not felt water or cream for the past few days.
I saw the way people were looking at me; I knew a lot of opinions would be running through their minds.
" Is that not Sophie Bennett, the girl Mason wants to marry" a man screamed.
It attracted the attention of the others who were close by.
I had to go back inside the house. Was this the way I was going to live? I closed my door and stayed inside. I looked at my phone, the battery was draining. I had no money with me and Mason will be here tomorrow to know my answer.
