Chapter 6 Piecing Together the Truth
Victoria exclaimed, "Grandma! I missed you so much, missed you all so much!"
Victoria, Diana, and Marigold hugged each other, tears streaming down their faces.
They looked at each other and then burst into laughter.
Diana pulled out a handkerchief, first wiping Victoria's tears, then her own. "Don't cry. Reuniting is a good thing, a great thing. I never want you to leave again."
Victoria nodded vigorously.
In her past life, she had fought with Ella over a fake sense of family that wasn't even hers.
She had abandoned her real parents and never looked for them, ending up in a miserable situation.
Luckily, she got a second chance at life and found her real family!
"What exactly happened?" she asked, still confused.
"Victoria, don't worry; I'll explain it." Victoria and Diana sat back on the sofa, and Marigold began to tell the story.
Turned out, when Victoria was born, the Hamilton family wasn't as wealthy as they were now. Diana gave birth in a small town hospital in Silvervale.
The hospital was poorly managed, and a nurse who had lost her premature baby was bitter towards other mothers.
She was especially jealous of those happy mothers who were loved by their husbands and cared for by their families.
On the day Diana gave birth, the nurse swapped Victoria with another newborn and took Victoria away.
The Hamilton family discovered the blood type mismatch months later.
They went to the hospital, only to find it had caught fire, and many patient records were lost.
The Hamilton family managed to find the family of the child they had mistakenly taken and returned the child.
But Victoria was never found.
When the nurse, Jade Marie, was caught, she had already gone mad, and the police couldn't get any useful information from her.
It turned out she had postpartum depression and was scolded by her mother-in-law and husband, who forced her to work night shifts for extra pay despite the risk of miscarriage. Jade finally went completely mad after her baby died, appearing normal at work but mentally shattered.
Based on the information Victoria got from the Baker family, Jade had swapped Victoria with Ella and lost Ella during her mental breakdown.
Joan and Brian never noticed anything unusual and naturally didn't look for their child.
The Hamilton family put in a lot of effort to find her, but they could only search among children without confirmed parents and couldn't trace Victoria, who had parents.
So they missed her all these years.
The Hamilton family even offered rewards, but many imposters came forward.
With the advent of the internet, the Hamilton family created a website to collect and compare information on lost children and parents, reuniting many families.
"Our Hamilton family has done many good deeds over the years, so God blessed us by finally bringing Victoria back!" Marigold sighed. "It's a pity my husband passed away early and didn't see this moment."
At that moment, the sound of a car braking sharply came from outside.
When he received the confirmation, David Hamilton was in a board meeting, furiously reprimanding everyone.
A group of middle-aged directors, some with white hair, didn't dare to respond and kept their heads down.
The Hamilton family was powerful, and everyone needed to stay on their good side to make money.
David answered a call, and his expression changed from stormy to sunny in an instant.
"That's it for today; the meeting's over!" He ended the meeting with a serious face but was overjoyed inside. He drove his luxury car straight to the house and rushed to Victoria with big strides.
"Victoria!" David hugged Diana and Victoria tightly.
He was in his fifties, with a bit of gray in his hair, and strong features that screamed authority and charm.
Victoria buried her head in David's broad, warm chest, feeling a sense of security she'd never known. "Dad!"
David said, "You're finally home. You must have had it rough all these years. Look how thin you are. I'll have the chef whip up some nourishing food for you!"
Diana chimed in with a laugh. "Yes, Victoria is too thin. Young people these days love to diet, but they end up malnourished."
Victoria blushed slightly, glancing at the plump and well-proportioned Diana. "No, I didn't diet."
Victoria, aspiring to be an actress, kept her figure through balanced nutrition and exercise, naturally staying fit.
Besides, looking at the Hamilton family, none of them were overweight, which was mainly due to genetics.
David asked, "Victoria, where did you grow up all these years?"
Victoria replied, "In Silvervale, with the Scott family."
"The Scott family?" David thought for a moment. He wasn't familiar with them, but they definitely weren't a prominent family.
"Then we should thank the Scott family properly. There's a project in Silvervale recently. I'll ask my assistant, Stanley Ortiz, to see if we can give the Scott family some benefits."
Victoria hesitated.
"What's wrong, Victoria?" Diana quickly noticed her unease. "Is there a problem with the Scott family? Were they not good to you?"
Victoria said, "No, they treated me well and raised me as their own daughter. But now they've found their biological daughter, so I think it's better not to be too close to avoid awkwardness."
"That's true. Besides, business should rely on strength, not just relationships." Diana thought, 'It seems the Scott family's biological daughter doesn't get along with Victoria. Otherwise, why would Victoria come to Sunhaven alone?'
David said, "Alright. If you have no objections, I'll send them more gifts as material compensation."
"Okay, we must repay the kindness of raising me." Victoria nodded.
Victoria originally wanted to repay the money herself, but now it seemed unnecessary. With David's involvement, the Scott family would receive even more, and she wouldn't owe them anything.
At that moment, the Hamilton family's eldest son, Samuel Hamilton, also returned.
He was tall and handsome, with some of Diana's delicate features and more of David's striking looks.
Samuel, twenty-eight, was in the prime of his career, expanding the Hamilton Group's financial investment sector.
He immediately noticed the unfamiliar but beautiful Victoria on the sofa, who resembled Diana, clearly mother and daughter. "Mom, Dad, is this my sister?"
Diana said, "Samuel, this is your sister, Victoria."
Samuel gave Victoria a big hug, lifting her off the ground.
"Samuel!" Samuel's enthusiasm was infectious, and Victoria felt no awkwardness despite meeting for the first time.
Samuel said, "If anyone bullies you, just tell me, and I'll get justice for you!"
"Okay!" Victoria nodded heavily, feeling surrounded by love.
The Hamilton family wanted to hold a grand banquet to celebrate Victoria's return, but she declined. Victoria preferred to keep a low profile and avoid special treatment; being with her family was enough for her.
David and Diana respected her wishes, as Victoria's opinion was the most important!
Soon, it was time for school to start.
In a high-end internet cafe near Nexus College, Victoria's fingers flew over the keyboard as green text scrolled rapidly across the black screen. Some tasks were better handled using a public IP.
Suddenly, the door opened.
