Chapter 6 That Familiar Feeling

'Mr. Smith... what a small world,' Nancy thought to herself.

Edward said, "You were awesome in class today. How about we grab some ice cream tomorrow?"

Juliana replied, "That sounds great! Dad, guess what? Ms. Lewis was super strict today. She even said Ms. Taylor looks like someone who comes here to talk business?"

Edward frowned. Emily had already filled him in on what happened earlier. This new piano teacher seemed pretty sharp-tongued, even teaching Juliana to mock her teacher. He was a bit worried that Juliana might pick up some bad habits from her. But Juliana seemed to enjoy her piano lessons with Nancy. She might be upset if Nancy was let go.

Edward changed the subject, "Juliana, how was your piano lesson today?"

Juliana had been playing games during the lesson, but she couldn't tell Edward that. Her eyes darted around, and she smiled. "Dad, this teacher is great. I like her."

Emily, who was eavesdropping outside, felt desperate. She had been waiting at the door for so long just to tell Edward about tonight's incident and get him to fire Nancy. She didn't expect the usually difficult Juliana to say she liked Nancy. She thought Nancy was really strange and wondered how Nancy did it.

Edward said, "Alright, go take a bath first. I need to talk to Ms. Taylor for a bit."

"Okay, Dad." Juliana agreed and went to take a bath with the maid.

Only then did Edward seriously look at Nancy standing beside him. Strangely, he felt like he had seen her somewhere before. He called out, "Ms. Taylor."

Despite the turmoil in her heart, Nancy didn't dare show it on her face. She adjusted her expression and calmly replied, "Hello, Mr. Smith."

Edward continued, "Juliana seems to like you, but I hope you won't say strange things in front of her in the future. It might lead her astray."

Nancy retorted, "Mr. Smith, it was Ms. Lewis who first insulted me. Besides, I didn't say anything inappropriate. Frankly, Ms. Lewis is not suitable to be Juliana's tutor. Her teaching methods are too rigid and can't foster Juliana's thinking ability."

Edward was stunned. Emily was recommended by his college mentor, who said she was the best student in the physics department and had no problem teaching a kindergarten child. Emily had indeed been very diligent and responsible. Although Juliana was a bit naughty, Emily had been very patient with her. But now, Nancy said Emily was not suitable.

Emily, who was outside, turned pale upon hearing Nancy's words. If Edward was swayed by her, she would lose this high-paying job and her chance to join a wealthy family.

Thinking of this, Emily rushed into the room and questioned, "Ms. Taylor, we just met today. Mr. Smith and Juliana haven't said anything. What makes you think I'm not suitable?"

Nancy didn't expect Emily to eavesdrop outside and was startled by her sudden appearance. Then she replied calmly, "Ms. Lewis, do you know about teaching according to the student's ability? We need to use different teaching methods for different children."

Emily said, "Of course, I know that. But Juliana's comprehension isn't great right now, so I have to go over things repeatedly to make sure she gets it."

Edward nodded, clearly siding with Emily. Nancy felt that the embarrassment and panic she had felt upon recognizing Edward earlier had completely vanished. She shot back, "You might not have caught the implication in my words today, but Juliana did. This shows that Juliana's mind works better than yours, Ms. Lewis. Don't underestimate her."

Emily had always hated how clumsy she was with words. Now, she had no idea how to counter Nancy's argument.

"Alright," Edward said, "I believe every teacher has their own methods. Just focus on your job and avoid judging others."

Even though Juliana had said she didn't like Emily, Emily was still the best option they had.

Previous tutors had all been problematic. Some lost their temper with Juliana, some pinched her secretly, and some even called her retarded to her face. Once, a female teacher even hid in Edward's room. When he finished his bath and lifted the blanket, he found a naked woman lying there.

In short, he had hired many tutors, and Emily was the most normal one.

Nancy raised an eyebrow and replied, "Alright, Mr. Smith."

Emily didn't expect Edward to defend her. She was very touched and said, "Mr. Smith, I will definitely teach Juliana well."

Edward said, "Okay, you can go now."

Outside the Smith Villa, Emily immediately changed her expression and mocked, "Ms. Taylor, if you have any ulterior motives for coming here as a teacher, I advise you to give up early."

"Why?" Nancy asked.

Emily replied, "Mr. Smith doesn't like women like you. If you pursue Edward, you're asking for humiliation."

Nancy said, "Thanks for the warning, but I have no intention of becoming a stepmother, nor will I be as delusional as someone who is reaching for things beyond her grasp."

Emily was furious, but there was nothing she could do. After holding it in for a long time, Emily finally squeezed out, "Hope you keep your word."

Emily's sense of crisis was understandable. Nancy was too beautiful, and today Juliana had said she liked her. It was the first time Juliana had said she liked someone other than Edward.

After her bath, Juliana quietly entered Edward's room. Although she was seen as a bad child by others, she was a good girl in front of Edward.

Juliana asked, "Dad, can you sleep with me?"

"Sure." Edward agreed and read her a bedtime story.

After Juliana fell asleep, he closed the picture book, took off his glasses, and rubbed his tired eyes.

Last night's incident suddenly came to his mind. He couldn't remember the other person's face, but the body felt very familiar, like that of someone from years ago...

Shaking his head, Edward thought, 'I must be too tired lately.'

Then he thought of Nancy, and that familiar feeling came back.
