CHAPTER 5

Ava’s Pov

I realised I had been staring for too long, and even only that could make things so suspicious.

“Uhm… I’m Ava, I’m new here, and... I’ve been kind of waiting for you guys to get back. I mean, I’m your roommate.” I said, realising I was beating around the bush too much.

Without saying a word, the one who was holding the doorknob from inside opened the door, and I walked in slowly. It was really more like an intimidating thing because I could still feel their eyes on me. As I got to the middle of the room, I looked around, not knowing which was my bed because their possessions were literally on all beds in here.

“Which is my bed?” I asked as I turned to look at the trio.

“Shouldn’t it be obvious? The smallest is yours.” The first one spoke with a sign of disgust on his face.

I felt a surge of anger in my heart, but I managed to stay calm. How could he be so nonchalant enough to tell me the smallest space belonged to me?

“Actually, you can change the bed in the dorm storage room. There should still be some extras left.” The second one said to me with a smile on his face.

I nodded my head and turned back to the bed, waiting for one of them to clear their belongings.

“I don’t really see why she can’t manage up the space; after all, she isn’t that big in size.” The first one snickered, and he fell on his bed and concentrated on his phone.

I tightened my lips and clenched my fists but didn’t bother looking back, as I had to be reminded several times that I had no strength against them. Then the second Alpha walked up to me and packed up the things that were there.

“Sorry for the disturbance. I’m Ryan.” He said to me and left without hearing my name.

I sat on the bed and blew out air sharply just to relieve myself of the tensed-up emotions swirling inside of me. I raised my head and stared at the two guys who were inside with me, and I shook my head. Although they were triplets, their personalities are what set them apart. I couldn’t tell if the third guy was also an annoying one like the first, but I didn’t want to care about that.

Staying here was for one reason, and that was to protect myself from being taken by those men. I stared at the ceiling long and hard as I recalled how my life had been ever since my pack was attacked. It had been a really tough time without my parents, but what could I say? I’ve been really trying my best to ensure I stay alive.

Mother, father, wherever you are, I hope you aren’t going through any sort of pain. I just want you to know that I’m fine, and I miss you.

Gradually, my eyes were beginning to feel heavy, and it was difficult to keep my eyes open, which I did anyway, until nature took me off reality.

DREAM STATE

People were screaming so loud, and I could hear wails all around, then the fire from a distance was burning and trailing down to my side. I tried to run far so it wouldn’t get to me at all, but to my shock and fear, I was stuck, finding it difficult to move an inch, and the fire was approaching really fast.

“Ahh!” I screamed out and was back in the dorm.

My chest was heaving up and down as my breath got heavier. Sweat beads were trickling down my whole body, and my heart was still beating really fast. The moonlight shone into the room, but that wasn’t enough light for me, so I quickly turned on the bedside lamp and noticed that I was the only one in the room.

Besides, I could hear guys’ voices somewhere in the distant. They all seemed to be cheering excitedly. While I would have loved to sit here and enjoy my peace, the nightmare ruined it all already.

“It won’t hurt to go out. Just stay unnoticed.” I said to myself and got down from the bed.

Then I walked to the door, pulled the doorknob and opened it, and stepped out of the room. I began to follow the cheers away from the dorm until I got to a large field, which was just in between the school building and the dorm building.

There were so many guys of different physiques cheering and laughing. They all seemed happy, like they had nothing to worry about. Then I got closer and noticed that they were watching a game, which was just a fight between two guys who thought they could be up for it.

It seemed really interesting, so I stood right there, close to some other guys watching. No one seemed to notice me as they were all engrossed in the games, so I felt relieved and excited to keep watching. At least, that was the first thing that had really excited me since the death of my parents. The night breeze also added to the positivity in the air, as it gave me this feeling of freedom, like I was an eagle soaring high in the sky.

About fifteen minutes into watching the game, I saw the third triplet walking somewhere else. He didn’t seem to have joined the crowd, and while I would have loved to mind my business, something made me feel drawn to know what he was up to.

So, I left the crowd quietly and followed him all the way until he got to the highway, and in a blink of an eye, I didn’t see him again. I looked left and right, back and forward, but didn’t see him.

“Where did he go?” I muttered under my breath.

Suddenly, I heard the sound of a motorcycle revving, and I turned to look back immediately only to see him preparing to ride. But there was something different; his eyes had turned completely red, and he looked coldly at me, and he began to ride towards me.

I wanted to leave the middle of the road, but then I had gotten my feet stuck in a pothole, and the son of a bastard wasn’t slowing down or showing any signs that he was going to stop.

Was he really going to run me down?
