IN A DIFFERENT LIGHT.

CHAPTER 6: IN A DIFFERENT LIGHT.

ALEENA'S POV.

There I stood before the one who I once loved. Well, looking back, I can see I was mostly infatuated, than being in love with him.

As I glared at him like a predator, having no emotions for him, I saw him in a different light. I saw him for the petty scoundrel he truly was. And he sure saw me in a different light as well.

"A- Aleena. I- I can explain what happened. Please," he stuttered, looking pitiful. Oh, did it give me great satisfaction to see him gripped with terror.

I walked towards him calmly, comfortable in my blood stained dress.

Marcus mustered some courage and charged at me. Without breaking a sweat, a grabbed him by the neck, lifting him off the ground. He did his best to break free of my grip, but his efforts were all but futile against the strength I now possessed.

I felt invincible! That was a feeling foreign to me all my life. And I loved it. But also, I badly longed to see Marcus die, slowly. Deep down within me, I knew that desire wasn't of me.

Either way, I gave into it.

I threw him against the wall of a building beside me. It broke upon impact. Trying to gain composure from the suffocation and impact against the wall, Marcus was startled to find that I was already behind him.

He swung his hand and hit me, wounding me with his claws. Looking right at me, he saw the wound heal in seconds. His eyes widened further in shock and he began running on foot hysterically.

As I walked slowly, not really pursuing after him, my senses were heightened. Once again, I found that time seemed to have slowed down. Everywhere seemed peaceful as time stood still.

Focused on Marcus, I didn't sense that Commander Banek had rushed at me from behind, swinging his sword at my neck. Realizing his attack in that of time pause, I evaded his attack, disarming him.

Swinging his arm at me, it met his own blade. His wrist was severed from his hand.

He screamed out in pain, holding his hand as he fell on his knees. I looked at him expressionlessly. Fuming, he roared in an attempt to attack me when his head was severed from his body. There was a loud thud when his bulky lifeless body hit the ground.

I looked and saw Sabrina panting heavily, wielding a sword. Looking at me m, she wiped off her face stained with the spatter of the Commander's blood.

Turning around, I saw that Marcus and a few surviving werewolves had fled and were afar off. I didn't chase after him. I let him go.

Looking round, I saw this village that which was in harmony a while back, was in total disarray.

The villagers afar off, looking at me in a certain way. They were scared of me. I was way more scared of myself than they were of me, as there were a lot of things I didn't understand of myself.

Caspian walked up to where I and Sabrina stood. He didn't know what to say. As I looked at him, I collapsed to the ground, losing consciousness.

Slowly, I regained consciousness. I can't tell how long I was out, but from the visibility of the sun, I could tell hours had passed.

I found myself waking up in the same room I had woken up in before. A migraine ran across my head, causing me to squint my eyes. As the pain subsided, I heard the cackling sound of wood burning, so I walked to the window.

I saw a large flame and smoke rising into the atmosphere. I saw that the town which was sacked a while ago looked pretty decent. They cleaned up the mess that was made.

Although my memory was foggy, I could still recall most of what happened.

I walked out of the house and slowly advanced to where the people were gathered. They stood around a pyre they had set. Even from a distance, I was able to hear the light sobs of the people.

A woman noticed my presence and turned to see who was standing behind her. Seeing it was I, she gasped in fear and quickly walked away from me. The others were alerted by that and they did the same.

I couldn't blame them for being that way. I would probably do the same were I in their shoes.

Looking ahead, I saw Caspian looking at me. He and his family were standing closer to the pyre. So I walked over to them.

The crowd gave way for me as I passed through, avoiding me like a plague.

I stood beside Sabrina, not knowing what to say. Having gone through something worse of such kind, I understood how they felt, way more than they could possibly know.

Then, a man walked up towards where we stood. Everyone's attention was drawn to him.

"I don't know who you are, but for the fact that you only attacked the werewolves, I , Rando, deem you a friend," he said.

I looked at him, a bit hesitant with my response.

"I am Aleena. The one whom they claimed was assaulted by humans."

The people gasped in surprise, and a chatter arose amongst them.

"You brought this destruction upon us. You're no friend of ours, you beast!" a woman yelled, and spat to the ground.

"Curse the day you set foot on our soil," another said.

An uproar arose as the people began voicing out their grievances, agitating. I looked round at the people, confused as to why they channeled their anger at me for what I wasn't responsible for.

The hostility and angered voices began causing my head to swirl. I closed my ears, shutting my eyes. But still, I could hear their voices. It seemed to have gotten even louder.

In that state of turmoil, I felt someone hugging me. Even though my eyes were shut, I felt safe in that embrace. As I opened my eyes, I saw it was Caspian.

As our gaze met, I felt a soothing warmth. I couldn't describe how I felt. It was something I had never felt. But it was beautiful. Caspian's affectionate gaze calmed the storm raging in me.

"Silence!" Rando's voice thundered, causing all of the villagers to quiet down.

"How dare you accuse her of something we have always suffered at the hands of the werewolves?" he asked angrily.

"She's obviously one of them. She shouldn't be here," a villager yelled.

"No. She isn't," Rando replied, and looked at me. "She's something different. Something that the world has never seen."

What he said was more terrifying to me than it was comforting.

"But you are right. Now that they know she's alive, whatever game they have schemed, they would try to see it through, and that would mean more trouble for us all," Rando added, looking at me.

I knew what he implied, so I nodded in acknowledgement, and began walking away from the crowd.

"I know our paths will cross again, Lady Aleena," he said out loud. I turned and smiled softly at him, continuing away from them.

Once again, I wasn't welcome. I really felt cursed at that point, cursed to sojourn this world alone.

Was I the forbearer of death? Why did destruction follow me wherever I found myself?

At this point, I didn't know what laid ahead of me. The most churning thought in my head was of what I had become.
