Chapter 4 You're Not Good Enough for Me

"Jesse!" Zoey cut him off, turning her head to look at Henry. The guy was definitely handsome, but he didn't seem too bright.

She smiled and poured Henry a cup of tea, moving with this weirdly calm vibe. "You know, even though you're super annoying, at least you get one thing right: you're way out of my league. We're not a match. You're just not on my level."

Henry's face froze, staring at her like she was nuts. 'Is this chick for real? She thinks I'm not good enough for her?!'

His usually cool and stern face looked like it was about to crack. After a moment, he gritted his teeth, took the tea, sneered, and sat down.

Seeing his grandson all flustered, Jesse didn't get mad. Instead, he secretly laughed. 'This kid, always trying to look cool with that cold face, now he's getting a taste of his own medicine with Zoey!'

Trying to keep a straight face, Jesse got serious again, his brows furrowing. "Zoey, don't blame me for pulling the age card here. I saved you back then, and you said you'd repay me. Now I just have one wish: to see Henry settle down and start a family so I can rest easy. Just spend some time with him for me. If it doesn't work out, I won't push it."

Zoey went quiet. Jesse had put it that way, and if she refused again, she'd seem like a jerk.

After thinking it over, Zoey nodded. "Give it a month. If we still don't feel anything for each other, please don't push it, Jesse."

Henry frowned, clearly not happy. "Jesse, I don't agree. I already..."

But Jesse's sharp look shut him up. "Henry, don't forget why you get to mess around with your hobbies every day. It's because I smoothed things over with your parents. If you still see me as your grandfather, don't reject my arrangement."

That shut Henry up real quick. He clenched his fists and finally agreed, "Fine, just one month."

Jesse's face lit up with a smile. "That's more like it! I'm not setting you up with Zoey to mess with you! You'll see her good qualities in time."

Seeing the main topic was done, Zoey stood up. "Jesse, it's getting late. I should head home."

Jesse pouted, "That King family treats you so badly, why go back and make yourself miserable? Why not stay here? Anyway, we're hosting your engagement party in a few days, so it doesn't matter where you stay."

Henry's temple throbbed, but before he could say anything, Zoey spoke up. "Forget it, I have some things to handle back home. I'll come visit you next time."

Knowing he couldn't keep Zoey, Jesse reluctantly nodded, not forgetting to nudge Henry to see her off.

The Maybach sped through traffic, Zoey leaning against the window, staring at the darkening sky, lost in thought.

Henry glanced back and couldn't look away. He had to admit, Zoey was stunning. She wasn't just pretty—her thick, dark lashes, enchanting eyes, skin like fine jade, and full, petal-like lips that seemed naturally tinted with a seductive red.

After a moment, Henry realized he was staring and turned away, annoyed with himself.

No matter how gorgeous she was, she was just vulgar and couldn't compare to the woman from that night. He just had to wait for the month to end. Both he and his grandpa Jesse knew he already had someone in his heart. As for Zoey, they'd never cross paths again!

The ride was silent. When the car finally stopped in front of the King family mansion, Henry said coolly, "We're here."

Zoey hummed in response, thanked him, and got out of the car.

Just as she turned, Henry's cold voice cut through the air, "For this month, besides acting in front of Jesse, let's pretend we don't know each other. Just so you know, I already have someone in my heart. There's no chance for us."

Zoey paused, turned, and gave him a sly smile. "Don't worry, I'm not interested in you either."

With that, Zoey turned and went inside, leaving Henry in the car, his face dark with anger, glaring at her back.

The next second, his phone rang. Henry answered with a stern face, "Make it quick!"

A lazy voice came from the other end, "Tsk tsk, why so angry? Who pissed you off, our almighty Mr. Phillips?"

"Benjamin, if you're so bored, I don't mind canceling a few deals to keep you busy," Henry snorted coldly.

Benjamin White quickly pleaded, "Alright, alright, just kidding! I have great news for you today! I finally got in touch with the Chess Master you've been searching for!"

"Really?" Henry's face lit up instantly. He loved chess but rarely found a worthy opponent until he drew with the Chess Master three years ago.

If it weren't for an accident, he wouldn't have been searching for this opponent for three years!

Benjamin's tone was smug, "But don't get too excited. I only contacted the Chess Master's assistant. I haven't had the privilege to meet her in person. So, I can only pass on the invitation, no guarantees."

Henry didn't mind. "No problem, just convey my invitation. She knows who I am; she won't refuse."

After hanging up, Henry's gloom disappeared, and he instructed Terry to drive away.

Terry, however, noticed something and pointed to the back seat, "Isn't that Miss King's bag? She forgot it."

Henry's face darkened. This careless woman!

On the other side, Zoey had just opened the door to see three people on the sofa with different expressions.

Luna was the same as always, red-eyed and looking pitiful. As soon as she saw Zoey, she started to fake tears. "Zoey, how could you be so foolish! Even if the King family is small, we've never deprived you of anything. Why would you do something so foolish for money and shame our family?"

Timothy and Hazel looked disappointed. Zoey was confused, "What are you talking about?"

Seeing Zoey deny it, Hazel thought she was playing dumb and angrily stepped forward to slap her. "Ungrateful girl! Still pretending you don't know!"
