Chapter 5 Take Away This Poor Woman

Mason's POV:

When I stepped into this banquet, I had never expected I'd run into my destined mate here.

Funny thing was, she didn't stand out at all. She looked all messy and frail, nothing like what I had imagined.

Honestly, Olivia fit my idea of a fated mate way better than this fragile woman. But even then, I never really liked Olivia.

I only accepted Olivia as my partner because she had a pretty face and the skills to be a Luna. She was one of the few women in the pack who could handle that role.

Plus, having a companion meant other women would stop throwing themselves at me, which was a relief.

Olivia always knew her place and never meddled in my personal business, which made things easy.

She was always smiling, patient, and kind to everyone in the Silverblade Pack, winning them over.

So, I didn't mind her occasional requests or her schemes to appear close to me in public.

As long as she stayed out of my personal affairs, I was fine with letting her play the role of the future Luna.

I'd never been a kind person, and everyone in the pack knew that.

I was ruthless and cold-hearted. I had even killed someone who tried to plot against me.

I knew it sounded harsh, but to become an Alpha King, being soft would just get me eaten alive by other wolves.

I had to show my strength and assert my authority to keep the dissatisfied ones in check and secure my power.

It also made those self-righteous fools think twice before challenging me.

Being the son of a surrogate mother, I learned early on that only by being strong would people respect me.

My mom came from a weak pack and was forced to be a mistress to the Alpha of a stronger pack.

She died of illness shortly after giving birth to me.

After she passed, things got even worse. I was bullied and called a bastard by everyone in the pack.

Whenever that happened, my father would look at me with disdain and say, "It's because you're too weak. If you were strong, they wouldn't dare to bully you."

From that moment on, I swore I'd become an Alpha King.

Only by being at the top would people treat me with the respect I deserved, even fear my gaze or words.

So, when my fated mate, chosen by the Moon Goddess, showed up, I was floored.

She was sitting on the ground, looking like a mess. She was so thin, practically skin and bones.

Nothing about her stood out; her face was plain and forgettable.

She looked so weak, like anyone could push her around.

For a second, I almost wished it was just my imagination, that I hadn't caught that unique scent coming from her.

That scent was something I'd never smelled on anyone else, not even Olivia.

I almost thought the Moon Goddess had made a mistake, making this woman my fated mate.

I looked her over. Under my gaze, she started to tremble. She looked so frail and beaten down that I was sure even a stray dog could knock her over.

This was the mate chosen for me by the Moon Goddess, and no one dared to go against her will.

I wasn't about to be the first.

They said packs that defied the Moon Goddess got cursed.

Losing my pack over a woman wasn't worth it.

So, I had to save this poor woman. At the very least, I needed to bring her back and keep her under control in the Silverblade Pack, so she could be useful when the time came.

"Paul," I called, waving to my deputy, Paul William.

Paul quickly stepped up, ready for orders. "Your honor, what do you need me to do?"

I turned to the frail woman and asked in front of everyone, "What's your name?"

She seemed scared of me, staring in shock for a long time before stammering, "M-My n-name is Ella Carter."

"Alright, Ella, which pack are you from?" I asked.

Ella replied, "Stormcrest Pack."

I nodded and then told Paul, "Go help her up and get her cleaned up."

Paul frowned, looking at Ella on the ground, clearly not seeing what I saw in her.

But he didn't dare disobey and nodded respectfully. "Alright, Alpha King."

After Paul helped Ella up, I asked the Alpha of the Stormcrest Pack if I could take Ella with me.

They had no objections and quickly agreed.

I ignored the shocked and puzzled looks around me, as well as Olivia's sad and somewhat resentful gaze. As a king, I didn't have to explain myself to anyone.

I didn't need anyone's permission to take a woman away.

I was taking Ella, right now.
